The room was dark, with the only light coming from the projector, casting a faint glow around the room. She sat in one of the vacant seats there. She's the only one inside with the Chief at their meeting since she's the only officer involved in this mission.
Chief Wei slid the photos into the projector. The first image to appear was an identification picture of a man with a beard. She thought about that guy before the meeting began. Since then, it has been mentioned that the son of a billionaire, Zhang Jin, has been receiving threats from the Black Wing Society.
"We all know this guy was the founder of the notorious group Black Wing Society. Until now, our cybercrime units don't have enough information about them. They are still planning to locate and look after them," he elucidated.
Her brows rose when the chief slid again, the projector emerging from the photo of a young man.
"Zhang Jin, the son of a billionaire, Mr. Zhang Huang," he said, clearing his throat.
Zhang Jin has an oval-shaped face with high cheekbones and a sharp jawline. His almond-shaped eyes are deep brown, and his straight nose complements his facial symmetry. He has medium-sized lips, often curled into a slight smile, and his fair skin is clear. His black, tousled hair adds to his boyish charm.
"Well, he's not bad," she commented, her tone suggesting a certain appreciation for the guy's appearance. It took a minute before she recognized the man's face. She thought the guy emerging on the projector was familiar to her.
She smirked when a flashback popped up in her mind, and her smile instantly faded.
He was a guy she met down the road, participating in a drag race! What a coincidence!
So, this guy will be her client! No way! She thought aggressively in her mind.
"He's eighteen years old, living his life in his own apartment in Beijing. Due to his disturbing temperament, Mr. Zhang said his son was involved in a high-stakes street racing bet. Unfortunately, one member of a notorious group was also participating in the wager."
She scoffed in disbelief, interrupting the chief to speak.
"How come his father doesn't hire someone to keep an eye on that notorious group? For goodness' sake, they are billionaires. They can hire twenty men or whatever they want to protect him!" she shot back sarcastically.
The chief set his gaze intensely on her. The authority the chief held left her speechless.
"Obviously, maybe because they are capable of spending their money and they have trust in us to protect his son. We aren't alike from a particular bodyguard. We are under the law of the government. We are used to training, shooting, and even covering our bodies to every bullet that comes our way." He answered, his tone dripping with boredom to answer her questions.
She rolled her eyes and sighed. Leaning back in her swivel seat while idly twirling a pen between her fingers.
"Does that make sense?" Chief Wei asked while staring at her intently, compelling every word, trying to let her absorb the words he said. She didn't respond, then remained silent for a moment while continuously playing the pen in her hand.
"Now, let's go back to this called Black Wing Society group, an illicit organization. The Black Wing Society is a formidable and notorious criminal organization operating in the shadowy underbelly of the city. Its members are known for their black wing tattoos, a stark symbol of their commitment to the group and its illicit activities. They are involved in a wide range of illegal activities. The group is heavily involved in organized crime, which includes drug trafficking, illegal arms dealing, and high-stakes gambling rings."
"Their recent news was when they kidnap one of the multimillionaire's sons and they are asking for a ransom. So, it makes no difference with that guy." the chief pointed to Zhang Jin's image.
"Officer Lian, that guy has a possibility that they might kidnap him as well." he was serious, declaring his word firmly. He immediately moved the projector slide again, revealing a new photo. The image displayed a deceased cat with a white handkerchief nearby. The handkerchief bore the logo of the organization, ominously drawn in blood.
"This is the recent threat that Zhang Jin received when he was at his apartment."
Lian Qiang started to take things seriously. She gripped her pen until she heard some cracked.
'They're too much,' she thought angrily. Chief Wei Xi, proceeded on their meeting until they planned what they needed to do. He told her about how to protect Zhang Jin in her own hand, by only taking him away from the criminals and avoiding getting impulsive.
Being impulsive might make their plan unsuccessful.

The meeting finally adjourned.
"I hope you get our meeting for today, Officer Lian. I have trust in you in completing this case." he said with conviction. She knows from the start that this case is just a minor case. Not too serious and she only needs to protect that guy away from that illicit group but when she thought that notorious group was involved here, she can't help but thought it's still a dangerous case.
"Mr. Zhang is waiting outside. Today is the day you will start your duty about this case, Officer Lian. Goodluck" After delivering his parting words, the Chief gave Lian Qiang a nod of approval, a silent acknowledgement of the significant task at hand.
His gaze lingered on her for a moment longer, an echo of the trust he had placed in her. Then, with a final encouraging smile, he turned and left the room, leaving Lian Qiang alone with her thoughts.
She exhaled slowly, her mind buzzing with the weight of the mission. It was time to meet Mr. Zhang, time to begin what promised to be one of the most challenging assignments of her career.
With a deep breath to steady herself, she stood up and headed towards the door. The journey, she knew, was only just the beginning.
