Chapter 3 - Invasion

A new day, a new beginning.

That's what Frost Larsh would have wanted, if not for Landell waking him up at dawn.

Following a year-long battle against the Hero, the inhabitants of Laradan found themselves unsatisfied with merely forcing the Villain, Frost Larsh, to withdraw within back in his own white house.

Motivated by this, the King issued an international Mission throughout the whole continent to conquer the Forbidden Lands of Larsh. Once this mission was disseminated across the continent, hordes of mercenaries flocked to Larsh, eager to launch an invasion against the Villain's territory.

"Why would they issue that mission now that I lost my memories? Did they perhaps know about it?"

However, despite Frost's complaints about his lost memories, Magic Spells seemed to manifest in his mind, causing his body to move on its own as he cast spells against the invaders.

Soon, Landell arrived with backup from the immortal world, giving Frost time to recover from his mentally drained state, even though he had barely used his mana.

Although he knew that he was already an 8th Circle Half-Blood Fairy Mage with the age of 115, his mentality right now was stuck back when he was still 15 years old. He considers himself still too young to start killing and seeing a bloodbath in front of himself.

After taking a rest, he couldn't prevent himself from vomiting due to the overwhelming experience he had just gone through earlier.

"Landell, when are they going to stop with this invasion?"

Finished wiping his mouth, Frost immediately asked Landell who just came from the Immortal world.

"Master... As the King of Laradan issued the order last night, I believed this invasion would last until a month! The longest would be for a year, but don't worry! As your subordinate, we will protect Larsh with all our might!" When Landell said that, there seemed to be a glint of joy from his eyes.

"Master, just rest here. I shall command your army for victory!"

Leaving those words behind, Landell run towards the center of invasion and started using his Lightning power against the invader.

"Hah, Landell is a mad man... All of my subordinates are mad! Rather than being scared against the invasion, they put on their creepy smile as they start their massacre!"

Frost recalled the face of Landell when he woke him up this down, rather than showing a worried look as he informed him about the incoming invasion, his face was beaming with joy at the mere thought of going into battle after a year.

That's not all, Landell wasn't the only one who felt happy about this situation... All of his subordinates were happy!

While they were enjoying themselves battling against the invaders, Landell stood here, trembling, hastily casting any spell that came to his mind, solely focused on his own protection.

"Ugh, I really want to run away from here. To a place that no one knows me."

A day has passed, even after defeating the first wave of invaders, many mercenaries and adventurers still tried their luck to win for the reward that the King has given.

Right now, Frost was inside his office sipping the tea Landell prepared.

As soon as he realized that fact, he spat out the tea he just sipped.

"Pfft—"

"Master, did you not like the taste of the tea?" Landell worriedly asked seeing his Master spitting out the tea he had just given him.

"Landell, this is not time for tea! Isn't there an invasion on-going?"

Landell sighed of relief as soon as he heard his master problem.

"Master, that's just a simple matter. We have our soldiers-in-training to take care of them."

Finishing his words, Landell took the cup of Frost and filled it with tea once again.

"But why do mercenaries and adventures come here, despite knowing that they would just die?"

Landell put down the teapot before taking out a piece of paper from his pockets.

"Master, I didn't want to show you this copy of the mission issued by the King of Laradan because I find the rewards not worthy of your excellency."

Unfolding the paper, he immediately gave it to Frost.

As he looked at the paper, Frost's attention was immediately caught by the big S-RANK written at the top.

'S-Rank?! Am I that strong?'

Soon his eyes looked down at the description.

[S-RANK mission

Conquer the Forbidden lands of Larsh

Description: After being defeated by the hero, Nolan Rutherford, the Villain Frost Larsh retreated back to his White Castle in the middle of the Forbidden lands of Larsh.

During his weak state, it's best to defeat him so.

Requirement: Anyone

Rewards: 10,000,000 Gold Coins...]

"10 Million Gold Coins?!"

Shocked by the huge amount, Frost re-counted the zero.

"Master, isn't it shocking? The reward is only 10 Million, that amount couldn't compare to your brilliance and tyranny! Let's show them that you are worth more by winning using our weakest soldiers!"

Hearing the words of Landell, Frost took his eyes off from the mission paper in order to give an eyebrow up look towards Landell.

Seeing the sight of the determined Landell, Frost resumed reading the rewards written.

[... Noble title in the Laradan Kingdom

A Blessing from the Laradan God for immortality.]

"A Blessing from the Laradan God for immortality? Isn't this a sham?" Asked Frost for confirmation as he didn't know if that was something proven to be true during the century of void in his mind.

"That's right master, they even go so far to deceive foreigners just to defeat you. Everyone here in Laradan knows that only those with immortal blood get to be immortal. But this is good, we will be saving fools from living! Hahaha!"

Landell declared with a devilish laughter.

'Did I perhaps become a villain due to Landell's influence?'

"Still... How come those people accept this mission even if they know they are just going to die?" Although the rewards are shocking and something they could only dream of, the rewards are not something to have those mercenaries' and adventurers' lives exchange for.

"Master, read the P.S. at the bottom."

With Landell pointing out the main reason, Frost's eyes travelled down towards the P.S.

[P.S. Don't worry about your lives, if ever you are defeated. The Goddess of Laradan has given us an altar of resurrection. Once you have taken the Elixir from the temple, you will be resurrected in the altar after a year.]

Reading the last part, Frost didn't know what to say. That's just another sham from the King, was he going this far just to have him defeated?

"Landell, isn't this part something only the hero was privileged to have...?" As far as Frost remembers during his time he was tasked to study the history of Laradan, only the Hero summoned by the Goddess herself gets to be resurrected after drinking the Elixir from the temple.

Though others have tried, the King back then banned after knowing that other than the Hero, no one can be resurrected.

"That's right Master. Only the hero summoned from another world by the Goddess of Laradan gets to be resurrected. That's a fact that those fools will never get a chance to know. Hahaha! When the King's lies are exposed, all of them will be dead by then!"

"Did they investigate if the Elixir was true or not? If I remember correctly, there are many books in circulation about the Elixir being only for the Hero?" Before answering the question of Frost, Landell gave a grin to Frost as he took out a book from his pocket.

'Was Landell's pocket that big to even have a book hidden?'

"Master, look at this book! The King even went as far to burn all those books about the Legend of the Hero and change it with this one!"

'The Legend of the Brave King and the Hero who defeated the Villain...?'

Was the King too cunning? The King could even go as far to deceive foreigners just to defeat him. Why is the King doing this?

"But... there bound to be some foreigners who knew about the Legend, why they aren't saying anything about it?" With a sigh, Landell took out a magnifying glass and brought it down the paper in order to show to his Master about the hidden message.

Baffled at the action of Landell, Frost looked where he put the magnifying glass on.

[P.P.S. Those who knows about he Legend, come to the castle and take 1,000,000 gold coins as a reward for your silence.]

"Ha! The King is really cunning, he really prepared that much just for my defeat."

"That's why only fools will come here, Master. So don't worry about anything else."

With the reassurance of Landell, Frost let out a sigh of relief and resumed sipping his tea. However, the moment his lips grazed the liquid, he swiftly placed the teacup back down.

"Landell... The tea is cold, heat it up."

Following his Master's instructions, Landell placed the teacup and teapot onto the tray before heading to the kitchen to warm the tea.

"Sigh, knowing how messed up the king was made me wonder if he was the reason for my previous self to declare coup d'etat."
