Chapter 5 - 005 Truth_1

Betsy Russell calmly watched Jared Hughes, who walked ahead of her, as cold and indifferent as ever, never glancing at her once.

"Chloe Lindsey, I sent you a gift, and I hope you like it." Betsy said, and without hesitation, hung up the phone.

Betsy walked to her parking spot, got into her car, and headed back to Heather Scott's house. Heather couldn't wait to open the door.

"Betsy, where's the divorce certificate? Let me see it." Heather was genuinely worried that Betsy might not be able to part with Jared Hughes. However, when she saw Betsy showing the divorce certificate, her eyes lit up, and she immediately took it.

Betsy smiled at Heather, stepped inside, and said, "Okay, let's go!"

Betsy and Heather had already booked their flight tickets back to the Capital. It had been three years since Betsy last went home, and she really missed her parents.

"I'll take you to a place." Heather looked mysteriously at Betsy, speaking earnestly, and without further ado, she took her suitcase and walked towards the garage.

"Where are we going? Will we miss the plane?" Betsy asked with a slight frown, puzzled.

"Giving you a surprise!" Heather stuffed Betsy into the passenger seat before Betsy could refuse and then neatly put the suitcase in the trunk.

When Heather drove out of Onn, a video instantly went viral on all major websites. The video showed Chloe Lindsey pushing Betsy into the pool and then jumping in herself, shouting for help.

Not only that, but the dialogue between the two was also crystal clear.

"Betsy, someone like you who can't make it to the big stage, do you think you can have a carefree life after marrying into the Hughes family? Let me tell you, it was just out of pity that my mother-in-law let you in!"

"Betsy, you blocked my path. If it weren't for you, I might have married Jared a long time ago!"

"So, you better make way for me!"

...

The video instantly went viral, and people from all over the country were watching the drama unfold online. Yesterday, they felt heartbroken for Chloe Lindsey's miscarriage, but today they were already feeling indignant for Betsy.

When people turned to Betsy's Twitter, she had posted a picture of the divorce certificate and the words "I'm sorry" one hour before the video exploded.

Netizens were filled with guilt when they saw the words "I'm sorry." The comment section instantly received tens of thousands of comments.

"Betsy, I'm sorry, I was wrong!"

...

It didn't take long for the news to reach Jared Hughes. At the time, he was holding a meeting in the conference room. His secretary, Bill Treiber, entered with the video and placed it in front of him.

Jared stood up with a dark face and walked to his office, leaving the staff in the conference room behind.

Bill Treiber immediately followed Jared, lowering his head to minimize his presence and avoid drawing his ire.

Jared returned to his office with a gloomy expression, exuding a suppressed aura. He watched the video intently, his dark eyes unfathomable as a deep pool.

"Has the video been edited?"

Secretary Bill Treiber pursed his lips, and with some trepidation, said, "No."

"So, this video is real?" Jared asked with furrowed brows, his eyes piercing and fixed on Bill Treiber as he questioned him word by word.

Bill Treiber lowered his head, bracing himself against the pressure before replying, "Yes."

"Drop it from trending," Jared's lips tightened, thinking about the contents of the video and Chloe Lindsey's pitiful state the other night, "Completely suppress the video, and report the news that A-list actress Clare Hollway abandoned her child."

At this point, Jared's only thought was to use the popularity of an A-list actress to block the traffic brought by the video.

Bill Treiber stood on the spot, quickly operating on his phone. He had already requested the removal of the video from trending, but it reappeared as fast as he took it down. Moreover, even the major social media platforms he had negotiated with refused to comply.

Bill Treiber had initially thought that exposing an A-list actress would be enough to counter this scandal, but he had no ultimate decision-making power.

After contacting various major platforms, Bill Treiber was somewhat stunned when he saw the traffic data they reported.

"Mr. Hughes, Clare Hollway's news definitely won't overshadow this video," Bill Treiber looked up at Jared and explained softly, "We probably need to expose a top celebrity to do that."

Jared's lips tightened into a thin line, his face still tense. After some thought, he said, "Expose Vincent Astor."

Bill Treiber looked at Jared incredulously.

Vincent Astor was the Hughes Group's cash cow, and Jared was actually willing to go all out.

Bill Treiber remained silent, his expression grave.

"It's best to concoct a fake incident. It'll be easier to clear his name later on," Jared said in a low voice, raising his hand to signal Bill Treiber to leave.

Bill Treiber obediently left with his head lowered.

Jared sat alone in his chair, exhausted. He raised his hand to press against his temples, his eyes glancing at the video on his tablet, his expression becoming complicated.
