Chapter 4 - 004 Divorce_1

"We'll go get the certificate tomorrow." Betsy Russell spoke, then turned her head to look out of the window, watching the yellowing leaves on the roadside trees, "Heather, I want to go home now!"

Heather Scott's hands trembled slightly on the steering wheel, and she turned to look at Betsy with surprise and delight, "Betsy, finally you have come to your senses. Let's go home sooner. Mr. Russell and Mrs. Russell asked me when you would..."

As Heather spoke, she almost let the cat out of the bag and quickly turned her attention to the road ahead.

Betsy sat quietly in the passenger seat, staring at Heather without a word.

Even without looking at Betsy, Heather could feel her staring, and she wrinkled her brows in annoyance, helplessly saying, "Fine, I admit defeat. Your parents have always been concerned about you, but they've never interfered."

Betsy's eyes darkened at the remarks, realizing that she was not fair to her parents. At that time, she was like a fool, with her heart and eyes full of Jared Hughes, completely deaf to others' words.

Now she had seen Jared Hughes for who he truly was. She would no longer have any connection with him or the Hughes family. She just wanted to draw a clear line between herself and them.

Seeing Betsy not saying anything, Heather secretly glanced at Betsy, and seeing her looking out of the window, she quickly changed the subject, fearing that Betsy might still have an attachment to Jared, "Betsy, when you return home, Mr. Russell and Mrs. Russell will be so happy. Maybe they are already thinking about what gifts to prepare for you!"

Listening to Heather's words, the corner of Betsy's lips turned up slightly. She looked at Heather and said, "As for the gift, I'll have to think about it."

Heather's smile grew even brighter when she saw that Betsy seemed to no longer care about Jared.

Betsy followed Heather home and looked at Heather's laptop, saying, "Heather, let me use your laptop."

"Feel free to use it," Heather replied carelessly, tying up her loose hair, and heading towards the kitchen, "What do you want to drink?"

"Milk." Betsy responded casually, her fingers quickly typing on the keyboard, and soon a video appeared on the laptop screen.

Heather came out of the kitchen, holding milk, and saw the content on the laptop screen. She looked at Betsy incredulously.

"Betsy, you've been hiding so much from me!" Heather lamented as she put the milk on the table, looking at Betsy with a pitiful expression, "You started a company without telling me!"

"Designer Scott, your field doesn't match mine." Betsy replied, finishing all her editing and saving the file, "Since I'm leaving, I thought I'd give them a little gift too."

Heather's smile was even more brilliant.

The next day, when Betsy arrived at the Civil Affairs Bureau at nine o'clock sharp, Jared was already standing outside.

She parked the car steadily by the roadside and took out the divorce agreement from the car.

Betsy still remembered the birthdays when she called Jared in the hopes he could come home early to celebrate with her.

But to Betsy's disappointment, Jared never came home that night.

Betsy sneered at the thought. Jared knew that she wanted a divorce now, and yet he was so punctual.

He stood on the roadside, dressed in an elegant white suit, bathed in the sun, making him look even more graceful.

Jared's narrow phoenix eyes looked at Betsy with a hint of doubt, "You... actually came?"

Betsy was used to Jared's mockery. She walked up to him with an indifferent expression, raised her eyes to look at the man in front of her, and contemptuously hooked the corner of her lips, saying, "Let's go in and get the certificate!"

Jared's face darkened instantly, but just as he was about to say something, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, his expression became mild, and he answered the call.

"Sister-in-law."

Standing next to Jared, Betsy could hear the noise inside his phone. Chloe Lindsey's gentle voice came through.

"Jared, my child... is gone, sob..."

Betsy, listening to Chloe's coquettish voice, felt her scalp tingle and her mouth twitching in disgust.

"Sister-in-law, I'll give you an explanation!" With a hint of regret in his eyes, Jared hung up and turned to Betsy, "You owe my sister-in-law an apology."

Pointing to the Civil Affairs Bureau, Betsy replied, "After we get the certificate, I'll give her a big gift!"

Walking to the divorce certificate window, Betsy took out the divorce agreement. Seeing Jared empty-handed, she frowned, pushed the divorce agreement in front of him, and said, "Sign it!"

Without hesitating, Jared signed the divorce agreement, which still read that Betsy would leave empty-handed.

After answering a few simple questions from the staff, their divorce certificate was processed.

Clenching the divorce certificate in her hand, Betsy felt free now. She would no longer feel sad for someone as heartless as Jared Hughes, nor would she be looked down upon by the Hughes family.

As soon as Betsy stepped out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, she received an unknown call.

"Betsy."

Chloe's voice came through the phone, her tone not at all weak as one would expect after a miscarriage.

Betsy didn't feel like talking and was about to hang up when she heard Chloe's crazy laughter.

"Thank you for stepping aside."
