Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Date pt.2

Justly quickly walked over to the table where Marigold and Beau sat holding a glass pitcher of water and two rectangular glasses in her hands. She set the glasses before them, filling each one up with water, while saying, "We're almost done cooking your meals." Beau said, "Honestly, Justly take your time. We can wait for you." Justly said, "Ah Beau, you're too kind. I just want to make sure everything comes out in a timely fashion. Someone of your stature shouldn't have to wait long periods of time for food." Beau said, "It's really okay. You guys work so hard, you work hard, Justly. We can wait." Justly said, "You're too sweet Beau." She looked at Marigold and said, "So how long have you two been together?" Marigold gripped her dress, and she (Marigold) said, "For a little over a month." Justly said, "That long and Beau hasn't driven you crazy yet? I'm shocked." Marigold chuckled, and Beau said, "I don't drive people crazy." Justly said, "Yes you do, you drive me crazy every time you come in here. You, Miss Marigold, let me know if he's treating you right cause if he gives you trouble, I'll give him an ear full!" Beau rubbed the back of his head, saying, "It's true. She will." A soft smile came to Marigold's face, and she (Marigold) said, "I will." Justly turned to Beau, pointed her finger in his face, and said, "You better not mess this up with her! She's a sweet girl, so treat her right." He said, "You got it, Justly," Justly said, "Emm hmm," and left to the kitchen.

Marigold looked at Beau, covering the smile on her face with her hand, and Beau said, "Oh ha-ha, laugh it up now." Marigold said, "I'm just wondering who she is. She seems super nice." He laughed, saying, "To you, she's nice. To me, she's a pain in the butt." Marigold said, "So who is she to you?" He said, "My older cousin and she's extremely nosey, but she's like a second mom to me. I don't know what I would do without her." Marigold said, "You're cousin? From which side." He said, "Take a guess." She said, "Hmm, maybe your father's side." He said, "Ehhh, wrong. She's from my mother's side." Marigold said, "I guess I can see it since they kind of have the same personality." He said, "They definitely do. I remember when I was a child, and my mother needed help taking care of me, Justly would always come to help out, and she would act just like my mother. It would annoy me so much, but now I look back on those days, and I'm happy she helped me and treated me the way she did." Marigold looked down, saying, "Hmm, that must've been nice." He said, "At the time, I didn't think so. I thought it was double trouble for me because I could never get away with anything. If my mother didn't catch me when I did something wrong, Justly would and vice versa. Hmph, they always managed to keep me out of trouble."

Justly walked over to the table with two white plates in each of her hands. On the plates were lobster tails with a small ceramic cup of melted butter, cheddar mash potatoes, corn on the cob that had salt and melted butter on top of it, and a New York Strip steak. She placed the plates in front of Beau and Marigold, took silverware that was wrapped up in black napkins out of her apron pocket, gave each of them the silverware, said, "I hope you like the dinner," and left to the kitchen. Beau and Marigold said Grace unwrapped their silverware and began eating.

The minutes of eating in silence rolled by, and Marigold said, "This food is delicious." Beau said, "Yes, Justly is one of the best chefs I know. She's really talented." Marigold said, "I see, this meal is one of the best meals I've ever had. She's an awesome cook." Beau chuckled and said, "So Marigold, I want to know more about you. Tell me some things about yourself." She said, "Hmm, what do you want to know?" Beau said, "Anything, everything. I want to know more about who you are, more about your life, what things interest you, etc…" She said, "There's really not much to me, there's not much I can tell you about myself. I'm quite the, 'Plain Jane,' so to speak." He smiled and said, "I don't think you're plain at all. You're very exciting to me, and I want to get to know you a little bit better than I already do." She said, "Well, why don't you start off telling me about yourself. I'm sure you have more to talk about since you like talking about yourself." He laughed and said, "Alright, I'll share some things about myself since I'm not scared to share. Hello, my name is Beau Bax and…" Marigold chuckled, interrupting Beau, saying, "Is it really necessary to tell me your name? I already know your name, Beau." He chuckled, saying, "I have to introduce myself if I'm going to share things about myself to you." She rolled her eyes, and Beau said, "Now as I was saying hello, my name is Beau Bax, I'm 22 years old and the CEO/partial owner of The Bax Company. My favorite color is orange, I love to read and travel, and my favorite place to eat is here. I like comics and hate the feeling of lint. Now it's your turn." She said, "Okay, I'm 19 years old and…" Beau interrupted her, saying, "Excuse me, Miss, I don't know what your name is. I have to know what name to call you by." She rolled her eyes as she sighed and said, "UGH. Hi, my name is Marigold Kelp, I'm 19 years old, I like to paint and draw. I also like to read and cook. I like modeling too… My favorite color is purple, but not just any purple. I like grayish purple. I also like mint green. I hate spiders, the dark, and thunderstorms." He said, "Thunderstorms? Why thunderstorms?" She said, "It's a long story… Now that I've shared something about myself, why don't you share some more about yourself? What is something you've always wanted?" He said, "Hmmm, something I've always wanted… I have to think about that one… Why don't you go first?" She said, "Of course I have to go first… Hmm, something I've always wanted… I've always wanted a pet." He said, "A pet?" She said, "Yes, I've always wanted something cute and cuddly like a kitten or a bunny or a ferret. Something I could snuggle with." He said, "I should've known you would want a pet." She said, "Oh why should you have known that?" He said, "Because you seem like the type that wants an animal." She smiled, saying, "Yes, I've always wanted one. Even as a child but I could never get one… I was never allowed to have one even though I begged for one. Hopefully, one day, I can get a pet." He smiled and said, "Yeah, maybe one day." She said, "Alright, now it's your turn… What is something you've always wanted?" He said, "I'm still thinking about it." She chuckled, saying, "Oh no, I told you what I've always wanted, now it's your turn to tell me. Your time for thinking about it is up." He laughed and said, "Alright, I think the thing I've always wanted is to have someone special to travel with me. I always go places by myself and when I do travel it's always for business. I want someone special to travel with me, someone I can have fun with." She said, "Oh, so I'm not special enough for you?" He looked at her and said, "What? What do you mean?" She said, "You're talking about you wanting someone special to travel with, like I'm not sitting right across from you. I guess I'm not special enough for you." He laughed and said, "Of course I meant you, Marigold, who else am I going to travel with?" She smiled, saying, "Oh well, if you meant me, then why didn't you say that?" He said, "Because you have spent the past month telling me how much you hate me and how you don't want me around you. I didn't want to just flat out tell you I wanted to travel with you, I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable." She sighed and said, "Well, you don't have to worry about making me uncomfortable… I've always wanted to travel anyways. I would like to see the world and I think you would be a fun person to travel with so I wouldn't mind going with you to different places if you don't mind me coming with you." He smiled at her, saying, "I would like that a lot."

An hour flew by, and they finished up eating their dinner. Justly walked over to their table and said, "I see you guys cleaned your plates. Are you all nice and full?" Beau said, "Yes, I'm extremely full. What about you, Marigold?" Marigold said, "I couldn't eat anymore if I wanted to." Justly said, "Alright, well, your total is 50 dollars. How are you paying? Cash or card?" Beau reached in his pocket, pulled out his wallet, opened it, and pulled out 4, 500 dollar bills. He looked at Justly and said, "Keep the change. It's the least I could do for you staying open late." Justly said, "Ah, you are too generous, Beau." Justly put the money in her apron pocket, took their plates, and walked back to the kitchen.

Beau looked at Marigold, and she looked down, thinking, 'He's looking at me, but I feel frozen. Like I can't form words to say to him. I can't think straight when he's looking at me like that. His eyes are so distracting.' He said, "Deep in thought, are we?" She said, "What," and he said, "You look like you're deep in thought." She said, "It's because I am, if I'm being honest with you." He said, "Oh, what are you thinking about? Care to share?" She said, "I'm thinking about a lot of things, but one of the main things I'm thinking about is what you're thinking about when you stare at me. What runs through your head when you look at me with your intense eyes? Are you thinking of ways to read into me, or are you lost in thought?" He smiled and said, "I guess I'm like you. When I stare at you, it's because I'm getting lost in my thoughts. A million things run through my mind, and yet in all my thoughts, I still can't seem to find the words I want to say to you." She said, "What do you mean?" He said, "You're a distraction. A big distraction but a good kind of distraction. I lose my train of focus around you, and I can't form words no matter how hard I try. It's like my tongue is in a knot every time I see you." She said, "I guess I know the feeling… I feel the same way sometimes." He smiled, saying, "Oh, you do? Maybe you have a crush on me." She said, "Don't flatter yourself. I'm only getting tongue tied because I don't like you, and you bore me." He said, "Sure, I guess it's the same way for me too." She smirked and said, "Well, I really had fun tonight with you, I never thought going on a date with you would be this fun." He stood up, walked over to her, and put out his hand towards her, saying, "Don't forget I promised an adventure after dinner. The night is still young, and our date is far from over." She said, "Oh, and where are we going?" He smiled at her and said, "You'll see."
