Marigold and Beau left the restaurant, went over to Beau's car, got inside, buckled their seatbelts, and Beau drove off.
Marigold looked over at Beau, watching him drive, and thinking, 'Why is he so sweet to me? After everything, he should be hating me right now, but he's not. He's been gentle and sweet even after everything I've said and done. Why is he so nice to me? I can't read him at all…" Beau glanced over at her, seeing her quickly turn away, and he said, "Ah, I was wondering why it was becoming so hard for me to drive. Your beautiful eyes were looking at me and making me distracted." She scoffed, saying, "My eyes weren't looking at you, but even if they were, how would you know? You're focused on the road." He smiled and said, "Because they are one of my weaknesses." She said, "You're a sweet talker, I see." He laughed and said, "Me a sweet talker? Never." She said, "You're so much of a sweet talker I can feel my blood sugar go up. Keep talking, and I'll need a doctor." He chuckled and said, "Well, if I'm going to talk sweet to anyone, it would only be you." She said, "There it goes, my blood sugar is through the roof… While you're trying to sweet talk me, you should be paying attention to where we're going so we get there quickly and we don't get lost." He said, "Jokes on you, I don't know where we're going." She looked at him and said, "What do you mean? I thought you had something planned for us." He said, "What kind of adventure is planned? If we're going to go on an adventure, then we don't need planning." She said, "Translation, this 'adventure,' was a last second thought." He said, "Yes, as all adventures are. Honestly, we can go anywhere, anywhere you want. We can go downtown to see the city lights, we can go star gazing at one of my favorite parks just outside the city, we can go dancing, we can go to a night roller skating, or do glow in the dark golf. Anything. So what do you want to do?" Her eyes lit up, and she said, "We have to go downtown and see the city lights and the Center Fountain! I heard it's so beautiful at night and I've never had the chance to go see it." He said, "Your wish is my command."
He continued driving, driving downtown while she looked out of her window. She rolled down her window, stuck her hand out the window, and felt the wind push through her fingers. She smiled, thinking, 'An adventure… An adventure with Beau Bax… Never dreamed we would be going downtown together… I didn't think I would ever be able to look at him again." He glanced over at her, seeing hair flow in the wind, and he thought, 'She's so beautiful. I hope I can show her a good time and I can bring her some happiness. It would be the least I can do after everything.'
As they got closer and closer to the downtown city area, they saw skyscrapers and other tall buildings light up in the distance. Marigold smiled from ear to ear, looked at Beau, and said, "Do you see this, look at how beautiful the city looks." He said, "This is just in the distance. Just wait until we actually are in the city. The sights you see are amazing." She looked out her window, watching them get closer and closer into the city until finally they got into the city. She looked up, seeing them pass tall skyscrapers, and looked around seeing people walking down the sidewalks and lights from buildings shining in the dark.
Beau drove until he got to a free parking area, and he parked his car. He got out of the car, closing the door behind him, and walked over to her side to open the door but before he could, she swung open the door, hopped out of the car, and said, "Come on, let's go, let's go! I don't want to miss anything," while she shut the door behind her. A smile came to his face, and he said, "Alright, let's go." She ran out of the free parking area, running to the sidewalk, while Beau chased after her, shouting, "Wait up."
She stood on the sidewalk, looking around her, seeing all the lights, buildings, people, and cars around her. She looked back at Beau as he caught up to her, and she said, "Come on, you slow poke! There's so much to see! So much to do!" He chuckled and said, "Alright, what do you want to do first?" She said, "Everything! I want to do everything we can." He smiled and said, "Well, Miss Marigold, we have to start somewhere. Where do you want to start?" She put her hand underneath her chin and said, "Hmmm, I don't know. I've never been downtown to explore before. The only time I've been downtown is when I was going for a job interview. Other than that, I haven't had a chance to look or see anything, so I'm really overwhelmed with excitement." He said, "Well, do you want to go see the City Fountain first and then go from there?" She gasped and said, "Yes, yes, let's go there." She started to run down the sidewalk, and Beau shouted, "Marigold, it's in the other direction." She stopped in her tracks, looked back at Beau, walked back to him, saying, "I knew that, I was just testing out my running skills," and ran towards the direction of the fountain while he tried keeping up with her.
As she ran, she glanced back, seeing Beau running in the distance, trying to keep up with her. She walked back towards him as he slowed down, coming to a stop. She grabbed his arm and pulled on it while saying, "Come on, you slow poke." He said while trying to catch his breath, "W-Wow, you're really, really fast. How are you not out of breath." She said, "Because I'm exploding from excitement! I can't contain myself! I'm a big ball of energy!" He laughed while saying, "I see. You're practically bouncing off the walls." She said, "I know, which means you need to hurry up before I die of excitement." She let go of his arm, held his hand, and she said, "Let's go, let's go! I can't wait for you all night." She ran while holding his hand, and he ran with her, feeling his heart race, and he thought, 'I never want her to let go…'
Marigold ran with Beau until they got to an intersection with a stoplight. She looked around, looked back at Beau, and he said, "Just keep straight." She said, "Yeah, I knew that, I was just seeing if you had a sense of direction." He smiled, saying, "Sure you did." She chuckled as she let go of his hand and clicked the pedestrian crossing button. She walked back over, standing next to Beau, and thought, 'I want to hold his hand again, but I'm afraid too. Why am I so nervous? I mean, we are married… So why do I feel like I can't hold his hand? It's like I have a million butterflies in my stomach.' She looked down as he glanced at her, and he thought, 'I want her to hold my hand again. I wish I could just hold her, but I don't want to push it… She's just now feeling comfortable enough around me to start holding my arm and hand. I want to hold her hand, but I want to make sure she's comfortable enough to allow me to hold her. I don't want to push it…"
They looked at the pedestrian light, seeing it change (showing that it was safe to cross), and Marigold looked at Beau, looked down, and began crossing. Beau thought to himself, 'Come on do something, you know you want to hold her hand so play it cool, say something to her,' and he said, "Hey, come take my hand. I don't want a repeat of last time." A smile came to her face as she walked back over to Beau, grabbed his hand, and said, "There happy? Now let's go." He smiled, and they crossed the street holding each other's hand. She felt her heart beating against her chest and thought to herself, 'He said something, he wanted me to hold his hand. I feel so happy and yet so nervous at the same time. I was worried he wouldn't want me to, but why? Why was I so worried? Why was I so nervous?' He looked at her as they walked, and he said, "Deep in thought again, I see? What are you thinking about?" Her face turned red and she said, "Uh… I was thinking about how much my feet hurt… I mean you drag me to the city without warning and I don't even have the proper shoes on." He chuckled, saying, "Oh my mistake, let me fix that." She said, "What do you…" but before she could finish her sentence, he lifted her up in his arms and continued walking down the sidewalk. She smiled while saying, "Beau, what are you doing? Put me down." He said, "What I can't hear you, over your hurting feet." She whined, "Beau put me down." He said, "Oh, I couldn't possibly put you down now. I wouldn't want you to hurt your feet anymore since I dragged you to the city." She laughed while saying, "Alright, alright, I'll stop complaining." He said, "Too late I'm already carrying you, you'll have to wait until we get to our destination." She said, "Fine, but I'll be pouting the entire time." He said, "Awe, you'll be fine. I wouldn't want you hurting your feet. Then you wouldn't be able to enjoy the rest of our date." She rolled her eyes with a smile on her face as he carried her all the way to the City Fountain.
The City Fountain was circular and made out of gray stone. It had lights built into it that flashed different colors and water that shot out 17 feet into the air back into the fountain. Around the fountains were warm, gray stones that led to different buildings that surrounded the area, and 17 black square metal tables that had 4 metal seats at each table. They looked around seeing people walk around the fountain going to different places and seeing different food stands set up selling foods and candies (such as cotton candy, funnel cakes, hot dogs, fresh doughnuts, fried chicken, etc…). She looked at the fountain, saying, "Beau, look how beautiful everything is. Have you ever seen a more stunning sight?" He looked at her, saying, "No, I haven't seen anything more stunning in my life." She said, "Come on, Beau, put me down. We have to go see it up close." He chuckled while putting her down, and she ran to the fountain while he thought, 'If only she knew I was talking about her.' She looked back at him, gesturing to him to come to her, and he walked over to her. She said, "Beau, this place is amazing," while pulling down on his arm. He said, "Yes, I can feel your excitement in my arm." Her face turned red, and she let go of his arm while saying, "Sorry, I'm just so excited. You're the first person to ask me where I wanted to go for a date and actually took me there. I've never been able to see any of the city like this, and you made that possible." He said, "I'm glad I was able to take you." The aroma of funnel cake filled their noses, and she said, "I smell something sweet." He said, "Yep, I know that scent anywhere. That's good old-fashioned funnel cake." She said, "Ooooo, we have to try it, Beau! We just have to! I've always wanted to try it but never got the chance to." He said, "You find us a table, and I'll go get us some."
She rushed to find them a table while he bought them some funnel cake, bringing it to her. He placed the plate of funnel cake in front of her, handing her a fork and saying, "I thought the two of us could share one." She looked at the funnel cake, seeing it stacked with vanilla ice cream, powder sugar, and a chocolate drizzle on top, and she said, "Awe, that's cute. Hope you can keep up with my eating pace because I'm going to pig out." He sat down and chuckled, saying, "Not if I pig out and finish it first." The two laughed as they ate the funnel cake together, finishing it up and throwing away their trash.
2 hours passed by of them going around the city and seeing different things and sights. Marigold and Beau sat on a bench near the City Fountain, and Marigold began yawning. Beau said, "I see someone's sleepy." She said, "No way. We have so much to see." She yawned again, and he said, "You're so tired, and you know it." She leaned her head against his shoulder and said, "No, I want to stay in the city and see more things." He said, "We can always come back. The city isn't going anywhere." She closed her eyes, saying, "No… I-I h-have to s-see m-more." He stood up, lifting her into his arms as she fell asleep, snuggling into his chest. He smiled, kissed her on the top of her head, and walked back to his car with her in his arms.
He drove her back home (to The Bax Residency) while he thought, 'Seeing her was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life… I have to do something more, I want to do something more for her. Something big.'
