Chapter 29 - Twin Brothers

Kurai walks out to the main lobby and sitting in a chair. Putting his duffle bag down as he thinks to himself. Kaneko walking out a minute or two later.

"Kurai…?" Kurai looks away.

"Leave me alone…" Kaneko is slightly confused.

"Why? Is something wrong?" Kurai grits his teeth.

"I said leave. Me. Alone-" Kaneko shouts at him.

"Why do you wanna be left alone so bad huh? Because you just realized you still enjoy volleyball!? Is that it?" Kurai avoids eye contact with Kaneko.

"I liked volleyball at one point, but that era is long gone for me…" Kurai turns and dominantly glaring at Kaneko.

"Volleyball is nothing more than a meager experience to fill some extra time I have-" Kaneko grits his teeth.

"If it's something you do only cause you have nothing better to do than why even play volleyball!? I saw you out on that court! You can play volleyball just as well or even better than most! So why do you still hate the sport!?" Kurai looks at Kaneko with rage.

"Cause the sport killed my father!!" Kurai looks away in silence. Grabbing his duffle bag and standing up to walk away. Silence filled the room as Kurai slowly walks away.

"If you hate the sport that killed our father, than why do you still play?" Kurai stops walking.

"It's a past time-" Kaneko yells at him.

"IT'S NOT A PAST TIME IF YOU ENCOURAGE EVERYONE AROUND YOU TO DO BETTER!" Kurai stops in his tracks. Turning around shocked.

"What?" Kaneko wipes his eyes and pointing to the courts.

"Everyone on that team looks up to you! me! US. even though we're freshman, Coach entrusted us with these Jersey numbers because of our strengths when playing! Everyone looks up to you Kurai. I understand it's your decision wether or not you want to play Volleyball, but there's only so long you can push off that decision! Do you hate volleyball because it killed our Dad, or because you're burnt out?" Kurai stands silently and then walking away.

"Kurai-" Lucas rests his hand on Kaneko's shoulder.

"Don't chase him, he's considering your words. That's all we want to hear, consideration IS the first step to acceptance. Come on Kaneko, we have to prepare to return home. Come help us grab some of the bags and equipment…" Kaneko looks down and sighs.

"Okay, I'll be there shortly…" Lucas nods and walks away as Kaneko thinks to himself. 'i'll see you on the other side Brother…' He turns around and walks over to the courts.

Kurai leans against the window on the bus and thinking to himself as he has his headphones on. 'what Kaneko said earlier; I never thought about it like that. Do I hate Volleyball because it killed my dad. Or am I just burnt out? And If I am burnt out, then what does that mean for me? and this team? I'm not sure anymore, Oh, Father in heaven, Give me a sign, Show and guide me' He closes eyes and drifts off to sleep. Kaneko also leaning against the bus window as it pulls out of the parking lot. Richmond looking over.

"Hey Kaneko…?" Kaneko sits up and looks over.

"Yeah, what do you need?" Richmond rubs the back of his neck.

"I heard your fight with your brother earlier, Mind telling me what happened to your father? Sorry if it's a touchy-" Kaneko sighs.

"He died. 8 years ago in a plane crash. On our way back from a professional match…" everyone was so shocked at how bluntly he admitted it. Lucas looking over.

"Sorry for your loss-" Xavier butts into the conversation.

"What team did he play on?" Richmond and Lucas smack him on the back. The rest of the team looking at him like he did something wrong. Kaneko looks down.

"Don't worry about it, It's time we told you anyways. He played on the russian team: Aki Vlast'" Richmond's eyes widen in shock.

"THE Aki Vlast'!? The Hall of Fame'r!? He's my Idol! He's the reason I even play Volleyball!" Kaneko smiles calmly.

"Really? well, he sacrificed himself to calm everyone down on the plane right before it plummeted to the ground because of an electrical problem in one of the engines…" Russ looks up at the ceiling of the bus.

"I used to be high school friends with him, but I lost touch with him when he moved to Russia. Didn't even know he had kids…" There was an awkward silence as Kaneko returns to looking out the window. 'Dad was put into the hall of fame?'
