THE FAMILY began to gather around the dinner table, no signs of the gritty atmosphere that lingered after church. In the end, things seemed to be going better for Adda. She had a nice talk with an old friend. Her mother had returned with good humor to the house, her father had been watching TV most of the time and hadn’t yelled one single time, Ben had left her be in her room without throwing a fit… And now the family was ready for lunch, and it was already closer to the time Addawas planning on leaving and returning to her apartment and could hopefully wash off the anxiety that was clinging to her chest.
Now things seemed to be nice, even if Ben had already started to complain about the vegetables.
“But why do I have to?!”
“Because you need them to grow”
The mother replied.
“No! I don’t want them”
The mother rolled her eyes.
“You will eat it and that’s final.”
