Chapter 7 - Stripping... Away the Layers of Reality

I look at Sebastion, in frustration. Not only did he forcibly transmute my body, but also made it where temporarily I could only make screeching sounds. I was frustrated enough to steal the story from him at least. The amount of power that it took makes it a pretty stupid thing to do in enemy territory, but watching him stand there dumbfounded trying to puzzle together what is even happening is hilarious. The effects of this change are quite interesting though.

Now, I am the one who feels as though they were taken from their home. I have a deep rooted hate for this world and a overwhelming yearning to be anywhere aside from this planet.

"Hey, you witch! Give me my role back. I want to hate this planet, but this side character role you've put me in actually makes me incapable of doing so. I am thinking so much right now that the readers would normally get to know, but no. You are robbing them of the reading experience." Sebastion seems a little upset.

"You need an attitude adjustment. Take some time and learn what it's like when the whole world doesn't revolve around you." I reprimand him.

"Seeque, I'm serious." His face is about as grim as it could get. "Give me back the main character role." His words are almost deadly sounding. They are dripping with venom. If I didn't know the limits of both of our strengths then I might actually be frightened.

"This role comes with some nice perks, although I am not sure they outweigh the negatives." I say thoughtfully. "Anyhow, the real purpose of this mission just came to me. The one that I'm sure you figured out and were to stubborn or assanine to share with me."

Sebastion stands their, stone faced. After his little stunt that got us onto this branch he didn't have enough power left to do anything. Maybe he was being affected by his change in roles as well.

"Our mission is to survive. I was told to bring us here by my dad, and through the plot driving deductionary abilities afforded me by this role I'm told that our first test is to survive until we can get back."

Out of nowhere, Sebastion dashes toward the edge of the branch, bringing me tumbling after him. He reaches the edge and leaps off toward the ground. I am yanked off my feet and dragged along the ground as he falls. When he reaches a point though, the tether acts like a pendulum and he swings so that he is under the branch. I can feel the full weight of his body trying to pull me through the branch as I can only imagine that he is just floating in mid air below the branch.

"What's the big idea, you dolt!?" I yell out to him.

"I will control the story, even if I'm not the one in the main character role." He yells back, angrily.

I sigh and put power into the tether band around my arm, snapping him back up to me his body going incorporeal to get pulled through the tree branch.

"Ahhhhhh!" He screams as he rockets up towards me and ultimately ends up face down beside me.

"You aren't the antagonist, and it isn't even close to the side character arc yet, so get a grip. You aren't controlling the spotlight anymore. You have to get comfortable with this feeling. Maybe it will help you out, teach you a few things." I say like I'm some wise guru.

"Look, we are going to find someone to remove this mod. We will do it, or I will become the antagonist."

"You know? That would be interesting." I cock my head to the side, "Being strapped to my own arch nemesis until he grows a pair and becomes a jester."

"Becoming a jester will just be playing into the game." He snaps.

"Right now, you aren't even strong enough to be called a player in the game. That will change though. Let's start with beating this first mission." I stand up and hoist him unwillingly to his feet. "Try not to make me use too much of my power pulling you back to me. There aren't many people around here to draw power from. I'm going to have to be careful with what I have left."

Sebastion mumbles something under his breath and nods. We are already close to the edge of the branch from where I got dragged to, so I grab his hand and jump off the edge, combining his meager pool of power with my own and turning us into a hybrid bird looking creature.

The physical control of our body is split in half, so I am controlling one wing while he controls the other. I mentally countdown so that we can both flap in unison, but the moment I say zero and flap... nothing comes. The doofus doesn't flap. The one sided flap puts us in an out of control spiral as we plummet toward the ground and it seems a little late for me to realize that banking my own safety on a guy who is fine with mutually assured destruction wasn't a good idea.

"Flap! Flap you idiot or we'll both die!" I scream at him inside of our head.

"There you are, squawking like a bird again. You are so annoying." He says, far too calm for the situation that we're in.

"I so so SO do not sound like a bird. And even if I did, birds can sing beautifully, so that wouldn't even be a bad thing."

"Then just accept it. I never said it was a bad thing." He pushes his point.

"Wait! We can talk about this while we aren't plummeting to our death. We have to get out of this first." I say frantically as the ground grows closer.

"You are the main character, so you don't need my help." He said coolly.

"No, I am the main character so you will bend to my will and help. Plot armor, baby." I smile inwardly as I pull out my trump card.

"How do you even know what plot armor i- GAHK." He makes a gutteral sound as the plot armor incases him and forces him to move in accordance with me so that we can stop our free fall.

"See? It wasn't that hard, now was it?" I say sweetly..
