Chapter 12 - choosing the first spells

Rael woke up in the morning feeling energetic; today, he would learn his first cultivation technique and spells.

Today marked the practical magic session, a day Rael had eagerly awaited.

The academy's schedule consisted of two distinct parts:

For the first three days, students' attendance was obligatory. The schedule encompassed theoretical knowledge on the first day, a physical session on the second, and the practical magic session on the third. Important Subjects like history and politics etc were also part of this phase.

In the second part of the schedule, attendance became compulsory. Students had the freedom to choose their subjects for the remaining three days. And there were only morning classes which left them with ample free time. The week concluded with a day off.

Rael took a refreshing morning shower and donned his uniform before heading to the academy's restaurant, as was his routine. However, this morning was different.

As he enjoyed his meal, he noticed Daniel approaching him. Daniel took a seat beside him and greeted,

"Good morning."

The situation felt slightly awkward to Rael, yet he replied,

"Good morning."

" i'm planningt to go to the wilderness on the weekend do you want to join ?" Daniel asked.

Considering the proposal for a moment, Rael replied,

"Sure, why not? Let's meet in front of the dormitory at 8 am."

They continued eating in silence after making their plans.

After they finished their meals, they made their way to the classroom together.

Barely a minute after they entered, the professor had already arrived. Celina Everhart, their practical magic instructor, captured their attention.

In her late twenties, Celina was a striking figure, clad in form-fitting black trousers and a loose-fitting white shirt with flowing sleeves. Her red eyes and graceful figure exuded a magnetic charm. Unfortunately, her allure was lost on the young students, as their innocent minds merely recognized her as beautiful without any ulterior thoughts.

However, Rael wasn't an ordinary young student . In his past life, he spend countless hours online, which allowed him to react differently.

As he knew things his classmates didn't know. His heart raced, and his cheeks flushed as he found it hard to look away.

Celina seemed to catch on to his response; she winked playfully at him before addressing the rest of the class in her enchanting voice.

"Hello, class. I'm Celina Everhart, your professor for practical spiritual energy ," she announced.

"Today you will receive your first cultivation technique and two spells as gifts from the academy. Subsequent spells will require academic points for acquisition. So, let's head to the spell store."

With Celina leading the way, the class proceeded in an orderly fashion.

As they approached the store, an elderly man was seated out front. Celina politely approached him,

"Elder Lee, the new students are here. Could you please open the store?"

Elder Lee opened his eyes, stood up, and unlocked the door. He turned to the students and explained,

"You have an hour to decide on a spell from the apprentice section. Each spellbook comes with a crystal containing its name and description. Once touched, you must take the book. Make your choice wisely."

With his words, the door opened wide, welcoming the eager students.

Upon entering, Rael found himself in a hall, doors adorned with elemental symbols lining the walls.

He refrained from entering immediately, opting to scan the room for Daniel's presence.

In a matter of seconds, he spotted Daniel making his way through the crowd.

It seemed their thoughts aligned. As Daniel reached Rael, he asked about his affinities.

"My affinities are S-rank lightning and an A-rank nature, what about you ?"

Rael replied, "I have an S-rank darkness and an A-rank fire."

" what do you think we should get?" asked Daniel

Considering their affinities, Rael suggested,

"You should choose a single-target attacking spell for your lightning affinity. I'll opt for a multi-target attack spell for my fire affinity. Afterward, you can explore spells that align with your other affinity. Let's reconvene in 30 minutes to decide. What do you think?"

After thoughtful consideration, Daniel agreed

"Alright, let's go with your plan."

They split up to explore their options.

Entering through the fire door, Rael found himself in a corridor spanning 15 meters. Shelves on either side held books, each accompanied by a red crystal.

Organized into sections, the left side contained physical spells, while the right held magical ones. Each side is further divided into attack, defence, movement, and special categories.

The special category housed spells that defied classification into the previous groups. They included unique abilities such as stealth, scouting, and binding spells.

After 15 minutes, Rael made his choice. He selected

[Explosive Fireball : create a fireball with any amount of spiritual energy you want and send it to your enemies.

The fireball will explode after touching anything.

If it didn't touch any object it will explode after 10 meters.

The explosion radius is 2 meters and it can be increased to a maximum of 4 meters with more mana.

You need three seconds to cast the spell and it can be reduced to two seconds with practicing ]

The other spells either required much time or much elemental energy to cast .

Recognizing the importance of time . he went to find a spell for his darkness affinity, Rael proceeded to the darkness door.

Within another 15 minutes of searching , he narrowed down his choices to three spells that aligned with his abilities

[ Shadow hands: create shadow hands that came out from shadows and bound one or many targets the duration and the power of bounding are up to the usage of elemental energy.

the user needs to stand still when casting the spell and the target should be standing on a shadow.

the range of the spell is 15 meter

The casting duration is 5 seconds]

[ shadow cloak : When using this spell the user must be standing on a shadow This spell traps the user's aura and smell and allows him to partially merge with the shadow which increases the difficulty of detecting the user ]

[ shadow eyes : It allows the user to use any shadow within a radius of 100 meters as a medium to see through ]

However, these choices seemed incomplete. While Rael appreciated their potential, he ultimately decided to pass them up till he know what Daniel decided . Exiting, he awaited his return in the hall.

Upon meeting, Daniel wasted no time sharing his choice.

" I chosen lightning bolt it's a single-target spell that launches a concentrated lightning bolt to one target its radius is 20 meters and it also has a numbing effect and I can control its power so I won't exhaust my spirit. How about you?"

In response, Rael described the [Explosive Fireball] and the other three spells he had considered. and asked for his opinion .

After careful thought , Daniel suggested

" take shadow hands it will help us a lot as we are not that experienced and our accuracy would be bad.We can just hunt in areas with a high density of trees to make up for the spell's weaknesses.

Moreover, I found a spell called Body of Nature that enhances my physical abilities when fighting in a wooded area. So I can display the full potential of the spell and defend you when you are casting "

Agreeing, Rael nodded. "Let's proceed with your plan." They went on to select their second spell.

With their selections complete, they rejoined the rest of the class and returned to the classroom.

Over the next hour, they learned and practiced their cultivation technique with Celina's guidance. Given the class's exceptional talent, everyone learned it quite easily .

In the evening, Rael retreated to his room, after finishing today's classes he lay on the bed reflecting on the day's decisions. He and Daniel agreed to dedicate the next two days to practicing their newly acquired spells before training together on the third day to enhance their teamwork and battle synchronization.
