Chapter 14 - the aftermath of the assassination

In a room that embodied wisdom, history, and magical elegance, an atmosphere of importance and power permeated. This space served as both a hub for decision-making among the academy's powerhouses and an embodiment of magical elegance.

The room seamlessly blended classic and magical aesthetics. Tall, arched windows flooded the space with natural light, illuminating the rich colors that adorned the room.

Tapestries depicting scenes from the academy's illustrious past adorned the walls, showcasing pivotal moments and great achievements in the realm of magic.

The ceiling boasted an intricate mosaic resembling a sparkling night sky, adorned with constellations symbolizing the school's core values.

At the center of the room sat a large, polished wooden table, surrounded by cushioned high-backed chairs. The table bore engraved magical sigils that emitted a soft, ethereal glow.

Positioned at the head of the table was a larger, ornately carved and cushioned chair, reserved exclusively for the dean.

Bookshelves lined the walls, housing an extensive collection of ancient tomes, spellbooks, and magical artifacts that projected an air of authority and knowledge.

In a dimly lit room due to the late hour of the meeting, all the seats were occupied. Celina, Paul, and Tom were present, though the usual amiable atmosphere had been replaced by a frigid aura capable of scarring even the most fierious beasts .

It wasn't just them; this icy disposition was palpable among all attendees.

After a tense silence that lasted seconds, the dean finally spoke, breaking the silence,

"I assume everyone is aware of the purpose behind this assembly. If anyone bypassed the letter and arrived uninformed, I shall reiterate our gathering's intent."

"Two students embarked on a wilderness mission and faced an ambush by assassins. These individuals are a prodigy under the Third Princess's care and the young master of the Blackmoon house. Fortunately, their resilience and luck ensured their survival."

"Our investigations indicate that this incident is tied to the ongoing struggle for the throne. Both the Third Princess and the Black Moon Family have dispatched representatives, both brimming with anger."

"The occurrence is unprecedented, in the last thousands of years. It tarnishes the academy's honor and prestige, and we cannot allow it to go unanswered."

Once the dean's words subsided, another man's voice emerged, brimming with anger,

"To attack our students despite our explicit warnings about the dire consequences of dragging conflicts onto academy grounds… Were these attackers brave or simply reckless?"

A white-haired figure chimed in, "The question remains: How did these assailants infiltrate the academy's array undetected? ."

After this question hung in the air, a stifling silence took hold, as everyone understood the answer but hesitated to voice it.

Moments later, Tom broke the silence, "We have a traitor among us. Whether it's from within our ranks or among the higher echelons of the kingdom, a traitor exists. Furthermore, the attackers were weak, mere bigenner apprentices, likely equipped with a distortion device.

These factors allowed them to evade the array's detection. Eight assassins dispatched to eliminate one student indicates a willingness to eliminate any potential missteps."

"They likely intended to eliminate the target and then kill the assassins to erase evidences . Their error lay in underestimating the Blackmoon kid . This oversight prevented a perfect assassination."

Paul's explanation weighed heavily on the hearts of everyone present. Although the throne's competition had been intense in the past, betrayal of such magnitude was unprecedented in the kingdom's history.

Several moments passed before the dean's voice reclaimed the room's attention,

"We should not dwell on this matter. We shall entrust it to the Kingdom Intelligence Department. Our immediate focus is preparation. Tonight, the kingdom's higher-ups shall be reminded of the consequences that accompany any challenge to our authority."

With these words, the room's atmosphere shifted, and its occupants dispersed.

The impending night promised chaos.

In another chamber, shadows gathered for a meeting, though a sense of foreboding hung heavily in the air, as if an impending disaster loomed.

One of the shadows spoke with urgency, "The mission has failed, and the academy is now in pursuit. How shall we respond?"

Another shadow's anger seeped into its words, "How did this failure occur? The plan was impeccable. Our suffering from the oath's backlash should have been anticipated. Did none of you consider the possibility that the kid might have companions?"

A third shadow intervened, "Who could have predicted that the student would form a bond with the young master of the Blackmoon house? Our priority now is to mitigate the wrath of the furious professors and dean."

A heavy silence fell upon the room, the weight of their miscalculation looming over them. They had gambled and lost, now facing the repercussions.

A fourth shadow eventually spoke, "There is no solution beyond bearing the consequences of our actions. We must brace ourselves for what follows."

After these words, the shadows dispersed one by one.

In the early morning, Rael stirred from his slumber, feeling somewhat fatigued. Unbeknownst to him, chaos had consumed the kingdom due to his actions.

He followed his routine: a shower, dressing in his sports uniform, and preparing for training. As he was about to leave, a notification from the system grabbed his attention.

[Ding! Congratulations on acquiring 2000 glory points for the turmoil caused in the kingdom.]

"Huh?"

Perplexity etched Rael's face as he grappled with confusion. He questioned the system's announcement, seeking clarification.

"The system, what is this chaos you're talking about?"

The system remained silent until Rael repeated the question multiple times.

[The system's current level is too low to respond to inquiries. Please level up the system.]

Rael's irritation surfaced, "This shameless system! I ask a question, and it demands 100,000 points for an answer. Even if I had such points, I wouldn't waste them like that."

[The system apologizes for the host being very poor. The system suggests seeking information from others "freely."]

Rael felt veins appear on his forehead upon hearing the system's answer, but calmed himself and opened the system's screen

"Wow, I've accumulated a considerable number of points! However, this was very dangerous . I shouldn't forget that engaging in such high-risk actions might yield many points but ultimately lead to my demise," Rael thought, his mind weighed down by the consequences of his recklessness.

Reflecting on his previous actions, he couldn't deny that his near-death experience was an outcome of his carelessness. He acknowledged that if it weren't for Daniel's assistance, he might not have lived to see another day.

Initially, Rael had brimmed with confidence, bolstered by his innate talent and the support of the princess. This unwavering self-assurance almost proved to be his downfall.

However, this ordeal transformed Rael significantly. It served as a pivotal point where he learned the importance of caution and the dangers of placing excessive trust in his strength and abilities.

The realization dawned on him that there would always be individuals more potent than he, igniting a fierce desire for greater power within him.

Furthermore, Rael grasped the significance of choosing his companions wisely. He couldn't help but acknowledge that had Daniel been an ordinary person, he would have abandoned him in the face of danger without hesitation. This experience imparted a hard-earned lesson about the value of true friendship.

As Rael surveyed the glory points at his disposal, a question nagged at him: How should he distribute them?

He understood the gravity of these points and the opportunities they presented. he should choose wisely
