Chereads / The Chronicles of a Vampire / Chapter 15 - compensation

Chapter 15 - compensation

Originally he wanted to level up his Extraction skill but after his previous fight, he knew that the skills that increased his survivability were as important.

After a few minutes, Rael decided to level up [Fast Recovery] and [Regeneration]. He would use the rest of the points to buy 3 meters and upgrade his dagger art.

Although he wanted to save some points, in the end, he decided to invest them in his own strength. After all, having an abundance of points wouldn't matter if he died due to insufficient strength.

After that, Rael accessed the system screen and first leveled up his Regeneration.

His body grew hot, and it felt like millions of ants were crawling on his skin. Though annoying, the sensation was bearable.

Gradually, the sensation started receding until it vanished completely.

Following that, he upgraded the Fast Recovery skill. This time, his body heated up much more, and he felt as if hundreds of needles were piercing through him.

Gritting his teeth, he endured without making a sound. A few minutes later, the feeling subsided.

Next, he enhanced his dagger art. This time, Rael didn't experience any pain; instead, a refreshing coldness enveloped his mind. It was as if he had trained for days in dagger art, deepening his understanding. The sensation stopped after a minute.

Subsequently, Rael expanded his spatial space by three meters and opened the system's screen .

Rael felt a pang in his heart upon seeing his precious points disappear, but he found solace in his increased strength

Following that, he engaged in his daily training. After two hours of exercises, his glory points increased by 2.

However, what surprised Rael was finding Daniel at the restaurant during his breakfast.

Despite his wounds being treated, Rael didn't expect Daniel to wake up so quickly. The fatigue accumulated from continuous fighting, injuries, and forcing the activation of Fast Recovery couldn't be remedied by potions and magic. Only rest could facilitate recovery.

Rael approached him and said,

"Good morning, how are you? You know, you should rest in bed for the fatigue to dissipate, right?"

Daniel looked at him and responded,

"Don't worry. My body is stronger than the rest. I've been training since childhood. Recovery doesn't take me long."

Hearing this, Rael expressed his gratitude,

"Daniel, if it weren't for your help, I could have died. Thank you. If you need assistance in the future, just let me know."

Daniel replied

"No need for that. Staying to help was my choice."

Rael insisted

"Even so, I can't ignore that you risked your life for me. If you ever face any issues, I'll assist you to the best of my ability."

Daniel gazed at Rael and made an unexpected request

"Could you accompany me on missions?"

Taken aback by Daniel's request, Rael inquired,

"You still want to hunt with me? Aren't you concerned about another attack?"

Daniel assured

"The possibility of another attack is very low. The academy will have taken action; the assault affected its reputation. We needn't worry about further attacks."

After considering it, Rael replied

"Well, you might be right. If you ever require my help in the future, don't hesitate to ask."

Daniel nodded subtly and finished his meal.

Following breakfast, they attended their first lesson of the week, theoretical knowledge about mana.

They secured seats in the front row, and after a brief interval, Professor Paul entered the room.

"Good morning, class. I hope you've all had a good weekend. We'll now increase the format and difficulty of our lessons, as the first welcoming week ended "

Professor Paul began.

"By now, I assume you've all familiarized yourselves with the basic Cultivation technique. During cultivation, it's essential to absorb elemental particles that align with your affinities.

Absorbing incompatible particles may hinder cultivation speed or even pose harm. For instance, if you possess a fire affinity but absorb ice particles, you'll encounter a backlash due to the mismatching elemental particles woth the spiritual root,"

Professor Paul elucidated.

"elemental particles exhibit conflict and complementarity, constituting a balanced system. This balance precludes the existence of a magus with all affinities. No magus is perfect, but each strives to be the best in their chosen field,"

Professor Paul continued.

The lesson spanned two hours, imparting insights into spiritual roots, affinities, and elemental particles. As the session concluded, Professor Paul assigned homework for the coming week, offering up to 30 academy points based on performance. He added,

"Before you leave, Rael and Daniel, remain in the classroom. We have matters to discuss."

Rael was taken aback but assumed it concerned the previous day's attack. After their classmates departed, they ventured into the back room, housing the professor's office. Seated behind his desk, Professor Paul beckoned,

"Please, take a seat."

Taking the proffered seats, Daniel and Rael faced the professor.

"The academy extends its apologies for yesterday's incident. We have sought retribution on your behalf. Rest assured, such an occurrence won't repeat. As compensation, the academy has credited each of your accounts with 1,500 academy points. Utilize them wisely.

My recommendation is to invest in a cultivation technique aligned with your affinities and a good magical weapon.

Allocate the remainder to acquiring spells. Unlike other races, vampires excel in both physical and magical domains, rendering us stronger than average magus .

Don't disregard one facet for the other. You may now rejoin your classmates for the upcoming lesson," Professor Paul advised.

Daniel and Rael thanked the professor and exited the office. As they joined the next class, curious glances followed them, yet no questions arose.

As evening descended, Daniel and Rael headed to the exchange hall to utilize their acquired points.

Upon entering, Rael observed numerous service windows, each with a line of individuals awaiting their turn.

Evening appeared to be free time, causing lines to stretch long. Exchanging glances, Daniel and Rael opted for the shortest lines.

After a wait of twenty minutes, Rael's turn arrived.

"Welcome to the exchange hall. How may I assist you?" greeted the employee stationed behind the window.

" I wish to purchase a cultivation technique for darkness and fire affinities," Rael stated.

"Certainly, here is a list. Peruse it and inform me of your choice," the staff member responded, handing over a list.

After a brief review, Rael declared, "I'll acquire Infernal Shade Infusion."

"The cost is 800 points. May I have your ring?" requested the employee.

Rael surrendered his ring, as it contained account details. A short pause, and the ring was returned with the transaction completed.

"The technique resides within a crystal in your spatial space. Transmit your will to the crystal for memory imprinting. Is there anything else you require?" the employee inquired.

"Indeed, I seek to purchase magical dual daggers corresponding to darkness and fire affinities at the apprentice stage," Rael affirmed.

"Of course, peruse this list of suitable weapons," the staff member obliged. Rael studied the list and, after deliberation, announced,

"I will take twilight shadowblades."

"Very well, that totals 500 points," the employee confirmed.

Rael conducted the transaction, and the daggers materialized in his spatial space. "Is there any further assistance you need?" the staff member asked.

"yes , I'm interested in acquiring apprentice-level spells for darkness and fire affinities," Rael continued.

"Certainly, this list contains available options. Choose according to your preference," the staff member replied.

After reviewing the list, Rael opted for two spells. One was [Darkness Body], the darkness version of the body of nature spell. The other was [Flame and weapon fusion ], a unique spell enhancing a weapon with flame effects.

It increases penetration and inflicted damage, adding a burning effect to wounds. This spell was exclusively applicable to fire-aligned magical weapons.

Exiting, Rael discovered Daniel waiting and shared his purchases, inquiring about Daniel's choices.

Daniel had procured a cultivation technique harmonizing with his affinities, alongside a sword merging lightning and nature properties.

His spell acquisitions included [Lightning Steps], heightening his speed, and [Nature Eye], a scouting technique with a 300-meter radius. With their purchases detailed, the two engaged in a brief sparring session before retiring to their respective rooms for rest.
