Chapter 2: New Beginnings, Tiny Beginnings
The sensation was disorienting—like the weightless moment atop a roller coaster's peak before the dizzying drop. When Hiroto's senses finally adjusted, the scene before him was worlds apart from Tokyo. He was surrounded by a lush forest, a spectrum of greens and golds, underpinned by the distant, harmonious chirping of unseen creatures.
Attempting to rise, Hiroto's hands met the soft, dew-kissed grass beneath him. A quick glance revealed a diminutive, green-skinned body. His familiar office attire had been exchanged for a loincloth, and his once well-groomed hair was a wild mess. He had become... a goblin?
In his stunned silence, Hiroto nearly missed the curious pair of feline eyes observing him from a thicket nearby. Initially, he thought it was some sort of forest cat. But as the creature cautiously approached, Hiroto discerned its humanoid posture and appearance. It was a cat-like creature with upright ears, a lengthy tail, and an unmistakably mischievous grin.
"First time in Valerion?" The creature mused, its voice soft but tinged with amusement. He extended a paw-like hand to help Hiroto up. "I'm Riku. Seems like you're new to this goblin transformation thing, huh?"
Bewildered, Hiroto threw a volley of questions at Riku, which were met with light-hearted chuckles. "Easy there! Let's start with the basics. Hungry?"
The pair delved deeper into the forest, with its magical pathways illuminated by giant luminescent mushrooms. The vibrant critters of Valerion, never before seen by Hiroto, played in the underbrush around them. Their journey led to a clearing where a community of goblins reveled, dancing and feasting around a fire.
While enjoying a meal of roasted berries and exotic grilled critters, Hiroto was introduced to the wonders of Valerion. Riku, with his penchant for storytelling, described grand kingdoms, air thick with magic, and mystical creatures. Goblins, despite being labeled weak, were resourceful, relying on their intelligence and agility to navigate the challenges of the world.
The memories of Tokyo still lingered, but as Hiroto sat amidst the goblin tribe, captivated by Riku's tales, he felt a burgeoning excitement. Valerion was an enigma, vast and brimming with potential adventures. Perhaps this was the new beginning he hadn't known he needed.
By the time the first light of dawn touched the Valerion sky, Hiroto felt a renewed sense of purpose, bolstered by the camaraderie he found in Riku.
