Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: A Demand for Answers

"I-I-I don't know what you're talking about! I haven't seen any disturbances even before this very ni-"

"Don't talk like that. You're gonna make even more of a scene if anyone finds out."

Zazel would be spying upon the very windows, looking out to see the man himself, having him straggle his own voice to sound old and decrepit, while the Tavern Keeper was being more nervous in regards to the events going on outside. He would keep a keen ear around his side, trying to listen in to the conversation afoot. "I-i-I know, I know, B-b-But you should at least know this is a FIRST if anything! Sure we get d-d-destruction around these parts but-" The Tavern Keeper tried to explain, before the cloaked man interrupted him in his fake hoarse voice.

"No Buts. I told you that you'd supply me with answers if I got you enough cash to keep your place alive. This is one of those times where you GIVE me answers. The answers I want right now...is what is going on out there. No Stutters or stammers either."

The Keeper swallowed his own anxiety away as he peers at his sides, seeing the figures still walking aimlessly. "W-well...Folks are going on that this was the spirit of them Galigan's. You knew them before, right?"

The figure would groan a bit. "You can't SERIOUSLY believe that, right? Just because they're wearing their clothes, doesn't mean they're THOSE people. For all we know they could be the king's kids that were brought in recently."

"Y-yes, but you see it too, don't you?? You can't say at least with a straight face that they resemble one of their own KIN, right?? Not to mention that it was a sacred part of history for Oaking. Its a significant event 'ere! You can't possibly ignore such coincidences, right Strau-"

The figure covered the Keeper's mouth with what looked to be like a cane. "Do not speak that name here! We could have witnesses." The figure stated, before shifting his head directly at the windows, causing Zazel to quickly react and hide away, not wishing to be spotted by Jackal's eyes. It was all coming together for the demon boy. Jackal Straum was the one involved in the murder of the Nobles, attempting to plan and, eventually, succeeded with attaining their wealth and their magic, in the form of the cane itself. It all came together instantly, and now all that's left is to take the individual down, though by what means exactly, he does not know.

"So what are you going to do now?? Y-You can't simply just attack those-"

"Ghosts? 'Course not. I'm gonna check in with those houses and see if there was anything I missed. If, and I do mean by this, IF it does have actual relations to those people, I'd probably check there to see what exactly caused them to just...spontaneously wake up all of a sudden. Say nothing about this to your residents. I'll get to the bottom of this, and I'm not having that past haunt everyone again."

"E-even if it was your own doing....?"

The Figure grew silent, yet a subtle nod showcased his answer. As the figure turned around, however, he would spot Zazel peeking towards them. This would startle the boy and start to run, causing the figure to chase after, somehow reaching a higher speed than an average human. The Demon, being aware of this shift in speed, would have him cast a sigil and send him straight across the alleyways. When the demon looked back, however, he could see that figure somehow gaining speed. Faster, and faster he came. Faster, and faster he maneuvered. He was reaching speeds equal to the demon's own, and it caused Zazel to be wide-eyed in shock. This must be Gravity Magic. The very type of magic to manipulate one's gravity with a mere flick of their fingers. Most likely he had himself manipulate his own weight to no longer be a burden, rendering him to float over the very earth by a few inches, yet still hold strong momentum that keeps him going faster, like a bullet from a gun. The speed kept increasing further and further, causing the Demon to do turns and weave around the area, hoping it would throw off the pursuer

Alas, it did not.

Zazel then came up with an idea of meeting Jackal within the Mangrove Graves as a whole. Not only was it his destination, but it was also where he could have the very Ghost meet and attack his own killer. He'd maneuver his Sigils in a way that has him flying over the rooftops, letting dawn break as he'd reach himself towards the location, with Jackal following closely behind. Weaving and bobbing across the trees, he was practically soaring across the area with his dear life, allowing him to encounter one of such houses: Old and decrepit. Assuming it was where the Ghost was, he'd have his sigil crash straight through its roof, allowing Zazel to get off quickly and make his way across the house's rooms. The moment he did however, stepping down and getting ready to trail across the broken, wooden flooring...

SHIKK!!

A Knife around the size of a finger stabbed directly upon Zazel's shoulder, slamming him straight through the wooden panels and pinning him against the rotten wall. Screams of pain were heard from the demon child, before he'd physically grip the knife and threw it away, casting Asmodeus to cauterize the wound. When he pulled out such a knife, however, he didn't expect it to be so deep, as it was barely even budging at a first glance. He'd use a sigil to empower himself JUST to remove the knife in question before committing to the cauterization, the evidence regarding such a weapon striking down so heavily being made clear as it had markings embedded in its hilt. As Zazel tried to pick it up, it was the same scenario: Not even moving a mere inch. Inspecting the knife's markings, however, revealed something interesting.

The lines that were drawn across its hilt weren't actually lines. Rather...they were symbols in the tiniest font size imaginable. It was barely legible, let alone translatable with how ancient such writing was. It was in a foreign language that died off when it existed. A Strong slam would indicate, as Zazel was inspecting the knife, the intruder who stabbed the demon straight across the skies. "I knew I'd have witnesses. Sorry kid, I ain't letting you live, now that you managed to know everything." The figure would remove his cloak, showcasing the very white and red suit he donned before such tragedies occurred, staring down towards the child, the dawning sun shining behind Jackal.

"But why.....why kill them? Why not just steal from them and be done with it...? You didn't need to kill innocent lives like that!"

"That was..." Jackal would clear his throat before answering Zazel's question, staring towards the Demon "..There we are. Anyways, That was the intent, Kid. It was to take the money, take the staff, and then run. When I saw that child waking up and possibly end up making some noise, I had to do some dirty work. It wasn't by my hand that I wished to do it. It was simply business. Business between me....and them. When the kid died before my own hands, I knew I can't take it back at that point, so I simply went after the Kid's parents to at least guarantee that my survival...was there."

"So...that was it?? To survive?? You could've just ASKED THEM FOR IT! YOU DIDN'T NEED TO MURDER THEM!!" Zazel would become furious at this man for their crimes, to which the man would retort back in a simple answer, before he'd have his body armed and ready to fight, not willing to have Zazel survive a second longer.

"I told you kid.....It was Business."

Zazel arms himself with his sigils, knowing that this would be his life on the line.
