Chapter 3 - The Emperor’s New Daughter

(Little Girls POV)

I had a bad dream that turned into a nice one when a big tall man appeared and made all the bad things go away, then he plays with me and carried me away to a big house! And there I met lots of nice people, and they all gave me nice stuff and lots and lots of love!

But then the dream ended and I woke up in the big man's arms. I was scared but he patted my head and said that 'Everything would be okay now.'

And then I fell asleep again.

(Emperor's POV)

After reassuring the girl that everything was fine after she woke up, I took her to one of the bed chambers next to my own, and tucked her into the sheets, doing my best not to wake her.

For the time being, I will do my best to keep her safe, happy and healthy.

I don't know if I can replace what she has lost, but I will do what I can to make sure she never experiences any pain ever again.

That is a promise. Both to myself, and to her.

It was getting late and I was working in my office, doing some paperwork, when one of the servants informed me that my child had awakened from her slumber.

I rushed over as soon as possible, and when I arrived at the door to what is her current room, I stopped to make sure that I was presentable.

I then knocked on the door before entering.

As I entered the room I saw a beast-kin maid standing off to the side with a tray that had a glass of water on top of it. She seemed worried and it grew when she saw me enter.

She quickly rushed over to me without even rocking the water in glass, a testament to her skills, and bowed, apologised to me.

"I apologise your majesty, but she seems to be extremely adverse towards any of the servants, to the point of fearing them. I've stayed in here with a glass of water in case she needed it, informing her to just call if she needed it, but she just huddles inside of the sheets whenever she is spoken to or makes eye contact with anyone."

"Hmm, I see." Was all I said in response.

I grabbed the glass off of the tray and told her to wait outside until further notice. I walked over to the bed and sat down on it.

"You can come out now, it's just me." I spoke softly.

I saw the sheets rustle as I saw a small head and two adorable eyes poke out from underneath. She looked around and when she saw no one else here she came out from under the sheets.

"Thirsty?" I asked her, presenting her the glass of water.

She looked at the glass, then at me, before looking between the two a few times, eventually grabbing the glass and drinking it all at once.

When she finished, she just stared at the glass in her hands despondently.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, once again in a soft manner.

She then started trembling, and then crying. I grabbed her and held her in my embrace as she clung to me tightly. I let her cry for a good hour before she eventually calmed down.

"Are you okay now?" I asked.

"Mhm..." She responded.

"Good. Now, care to tell me what was wrong?"

"Scary people..." She mumbled softly.

"And why are they scary?"

She started to cry some more, sniffling as more tears fell down her face and onto my clothes, but she did her best to talk anyways.

"B-Big *Sniff* a-and s-s-scary." She managed to blurt out.

"Big how?" I asked, as I wasn't sure what she meant by big.

"B-Big m-m *Sniff* m-monster b-behind them *sniff*." She managed to speak once more.

I thought about what she said and realised what had happened. The servants hadn't reigned in their aura's. I sighed and telepathically told the maid waiting outside to come back in and restrain her aura and natural power to the maximum.

The maid knocked on the door and entered, and the girl in my arms looked over to see who had entered before she immediately coddled herself into me.

I patted her head and assured her that there was nothing to be scared of now.

"Don't worry, the scary monster is gone, you can look now, everything will be okay so long as I'm here. No harm will fall upon you in my presence. It's okay." I soothed her as I gently stroked her the back of her head rhythmically.

She stopped trembling in my arms and slowly turned to look at the maid. She trembled slightly but when she noticed that the 'monster' had vanished, she stared at the kitsune maid with wonder and curiosity.

"This here is Masami. She is one of my servants." I explained.

"Woah…" She expressed as her eyes sparkled.

"And now, she is you maid also, along with every other servant in my palace." I continued explaining.

"Eh?" She seemed shocked by my words before shaking out of my grasp and rushing to the floor and proceeding to kowtow to me.

She trembled in fear as she had grasped her current situation, although, she interpreted it incorrectly.

I leaned over and picked her up, frightening her even more. I sat her on my lap and fell backwards onto the bed, my arms hugged tightly around her waist.

"Don't worry, you don't ever have to do that to anyone ever again. Because you're my daughter from this moment on." I said in a powerful yet loving tone that seemed to convey everything I wanted it to.

My daughter stopped trembling in my arms and began to snuggle up with me and slowly fell asleep, mainly due to her mind being burnt out by everything that has happened.

And seeing her like this was making me sleepy as well. I soon fell asleep for the first time in years, with her in my arms, and had a good night's sleep.

When I spoke up the following morning I was lying in bed with my new daughter still in my arms, doing her best to hug me back with her small body.

I caressed the back of her head and stirred her awake.

"Mmm~ Papa~" She mumbled as she slowly came to.

I slowly sat upright, fully waking her up.

"Nnn…" She groaned groggily as she rubbed her scarlet eyes. "Mmm?" She looked up at me, the memories of what happened yesterday truly setting in for her.

She just stared up at me dumbfoundedly, as if she couldn't believe what had happened.

"P-Papa?" She asked nervously.

"Yes, I'm your new papa. And papa will always protect you." I told her, pulling her deeper into my embrace and giving her a warm hug, which she returned.

*Growl*

I heard the low grumbling sound of someone's stomach yearning for sustenance.

"Someone's hungry." I said looking down on the now tomato faced child. "Come, let's go and get breakfast then." I said carrying her over to the dining hall to eat.
