Chapter 1 - Prologue

I sat down with my grandmother, who intentionally shares a name with me, since mother didn't seem to think of any better name than Caroline.

The smell of fresh air streaming at our faces slightly causes us to smile. I tried to pluck a flower out of the many flowers we were surrounded with, but then my grandma prevented me instantly.

"Do you know how long it took someone to grow such a beautiful and delicate flower?" she asked.

I shaked my head, indicating that I didn't know the right answer to her question.

"Well, it could take a person 95 days on average, so imagine someone taking care of such a creature every single day for 95 days just so you could pluck it and take away the beauty of it" she explained.

"But granny, I really like the flower!" I said, hoping that maybe she would allow me to take it with me home.

"If you really like the flower then leave it as it is, some may like a plant way too much and end up watering it until it drowns, some may like a pet too much and end up hugging it until it suffocates" Her wise words hit me deeply.

I was about to jump around in the wide field of flowers, but then my grandma gripped my hands in a rush.

"Promise me something." she uttered.

I hummed in response.

"Promise me to never go back in time, no matter how much you regret something, no matter how much you want something, it's never worth it." She desperately said, almost begging me.

I didn't understand what she meant by going back in time, but looking at her desperate face, I just had to go along.

"I promise." I nervously promised.

Her tense face relaxed and then she smiled and released my hand from her slightly harsh grip.

The next day, grandma passed away. Everyone thought it was because of old age, but I was convinced otherwise!

I could never forget the look she gave me. It must have meant something.

I tried to look into it. I really did!

But as time passed, I just forgot about it, I thought maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe it was all another regular advice of hers that I didn't know the meaning behind.
