Ocean, OverWorld
Day
Four large, wooden and armored with powerful cannons were sailing down the twisty blue-colored river. Their sails all open. The four ships sailed in a single-filed fashion. The ocean was coming into view as the river began widening out. As they sailed towards the ocean, the visibility began to drop.
Thick, heavy fog covered the ocean. The skies were cloudy. Steve, Alex, Annabeth, Victoria, Sedrick, and Sam were all onboard large, wooden battleships. They were all ready to defend their land and Kingdom. Steve and Alex were on one ship, Sedrick on another, and Annabeth and Victoria were on the third ship.
Although this battle wasn't going to be an easy one. The fog made seeing the enemy that much harder. Hopefully the fog stuck around. It would drastically help win the battle.
The ships were being propelled forward by two large sails, which were white and made out of sheep's wool. At the stern of the ship, a blue flag with a yellow circle in the middle was being flown. On the Portside and Starboard side of the ships were heavy-duty cannons, a deadly weapon. Deadly to ships that is.
No one knew what to expect when they laid eyes upon their enemy. They have no idea what weapons they're using, or how many ships they're sailing. That was scary, worrying thought to think about. For all they knew, they were sailing blind. Steve and Alex had experience being on a ship and how to listen for one. If you heard water splashing, it was a ship. With their expertise, the battle should go "smoothly" right?
"Keep your eyes and ears open. Listen for the wake of the ships," Steve said, "they're close. I can smell them."
Alex was standing next to him. She glanced over to her left at him. "Are you sure it's not you you're smelling?"
"I cleaned up this morning, thank you very much," Steve responded.
Alex laughed as she walked away from him to go tie some ropes for the sails. When she walked away, Steve lifted his right arm and sniffed his armpit. "I smell fine, Alex!" Steve mumbled to himself.
"We have incoming! Off the starboard bow!" The helmsman steering the ship shouted as he pointed in the direction of where the enemy pirate ship was closing in. Emerging from within the thick fog was the bow of the pirate ship.
Steve ran over to man one of the poop deck cannons on the starboard side. Another man ran over to quickly load the cannon with a deadly iron cannon ball. In total, there were eight blockheads on each ship.
Every available blockhead ran over to the starboard deck cannons and quickly loaded them. One man at each cannon held a flint and steel to light the cannonball's fuse. One by one, a cannonball was loaded. And one by one, the five cannon's launched their cannonballs.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The deafening sounds of the cannons launching made everyone's ears ring. For a moment, everyone's hearing went dead. But then it slowly came back. This little hiccup didn't stop anyone from reloading their cannons before the enemy could get their turn in firing.
Out of the five cannonballs launched, only three struck the pirate ship. The three successful shots managed to deliver severe damage to the other ship. One cannon hit the pirate ship just above the waterline, the other two dealt damage to the Portside hull of their ship. Big, gaping holes appeared in the cannonball's wake. Somehow, a fire suddenly broke out on their ship.
"Ready!" Sam shouted, "FIRE!"
As Steve and Alex's ship was having successful shots, the boat Sedrick was on was slow to react to the incoming pirate ships. Sedrick stood by a cannon, ready to aim it and then fire it. A male blockhead and female blockhead stood on his left and right sides of him.
They weren't having as much luck as they would've hoped. Spotting their enemy in this heavy fog was very difficult. As they continued searching for the pirate ship, seven cannonballs came raining down upon the Portside of his ship. Everyone was focused on the starboard side, thinking the pirates would close in from the right. Not the left. It was a deadly mistake on their part.
All but one cannonball hit the ship, four of them hitting the ship under the waterline. That couldn't be good. The ship suddenly tilted to the left.
"Someone go down below deck and patch her up!" The Captain of the vessel shouted. Two blockheads left their battle stations and went climbing down a ladder. The ladder led down to below deck, where the crew's quarters, and the dining area were located.
Sedrick remained up on the deck, running over to the starboard side of the ship to quickly load and fire a cannon. Two more blockheads assisted him. It would be another minute before their first shot was fired.
Down below deck, the two blockheads could see the water pouring into the ship at a rapid rate. The lanterns were the only light available, besides the open hatch they came through. The water was just covering their feet. Wooden chairs and tables were floating in the rapid rising water.
"You get those two over there," Carl, one of the blockheads shouted to his sister Cassidy. Carl and Cassidy both grabbed oakwood planks out of their inventories to fix the holes in the ship.
Getting over to the holes was hard. The holes were two blocks high and three blocks wide. Good thing they were prepared with wood, huh? If they weren't there would've been nothing they could've done to stop the water from entering the ship. The last thing the good guys needed was to lose a ship early on in the battle.
As the water continued to enter, the ship's tilt grew more dangerous. If they didn't act quickly, their ship could sink. Taking everyone onboard with it to the bottom of the ocean.
After Sam had received word that pirates were coming, he immediately took action by ordering most of his guards to board the battle ships. Because Sam's kingdom was far away from the ocean, he made use of the winding river to house his ships. In total, he had four. All of the ships were present.
As Carl and Annabelle got to work on fixing their damaged ship, another round of cannonballs came flying through the hull. Only this time, they were above the waterline. The holes below the surface of the water were more important. Both of them only had twenty pieces of wood on hand. Once they've used all of it, there would be no more repairing the ship.
Back above deck, Sedrick had to adjust the angle of the cannon slightly. The Captain of the ship ordered the helmsman to turn hard to starboard. The male helmsman turned the massive, polished wooden wheel as fast as he could.
"Fire! Rain fire upon them!" The Captain shouted to everyone manning a cannon. "We will not lose today folks! Not while I'm in command!"
After adjusting his cannon to the proper angle, the blockhead to Sedrick's right loaded a heavy cannonball into the cannon. The fuse to the cannon was sticking out. The blockhead standing on Sedrick's left side quickly lit the fuse.
The fuse burned rapidly, firing the cannon's deadly payload. BOOM!
Four other cannons followed. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! After the cannonballs were fired, everyone reloaded the cannons as fast as they could. Two out of the five shots fired actually struck their target. Although the two shots that were successful only dealt damage to the poop deck. As they were busy doing that, they didn't notice that the fog was beginning to clear up. Thank goodness. Once the fog cleared, it will make everything flow more smoothly aiming wise.
Two out of the five shots fired actually struck their target. Although the two shots that were successful only dealt damage to the poop deck. One cannonball struck one of the main sail's tall masts. The mast toppled over, taking the sail with it. It fell into the water and sank beneath the waves. That should slow the pirate ship down hopefully. Maybe Sedrick and the others should focus their attention on the masts? No sails, no speed. The ship would slowly lose speed, becoming a floating victim to Sedrick and the others' shots.
As Sedrick continued to man his cannon, things on Victoria and Sam's ship were going great. They had managed to fire two deadly rounds of cannonballs at their enemy ship.
The pirates were now beginning to fire back. Their aim and accuracy was terrible. No, not because of the fog. But because they were panicking and rushing themselves. They needed the upper hand in order to win the battle.
As the fog continued to dissipate, the battle sight was beginning to emerge. Everyone could finally see their enemies. But now that the fog has cleared, it also meant that the firing accuracy on both sides began improving.
Sam was a smart leader. He knew that ships wouldn't be enough to defeat the pirates. That's when he called upon his baby dragon Luna to help. Flying towards the battle sight very fast was Luna.
Almost no one saw her closing in because their hands were already full. Luna began her steep descent towards the pirate ships below, revealing four blockheads on her back. They were aiming their bow at the pirate ship below, launching their arrows in unison. The arrows flew through the air, and began raining down upon the pirate ship below. Everyone on Luna's back cheered as they saw the arrows hit the intended target.
Luna continued to focus her sights on one particular ship. Once she was low enough, she inhaled deeply through her open mouth.
All of the vicious pirates onboard the ship abruptly stopped what they were doing and looked up at Luna. They tried reacting, attempting to stop her from burning their ship. But they were unlucky. She blew scorching hot fire out of her mouth. Anyone and anything that stood in her way was burned. The sails made of wool ignited and began burning. Pop, crackle, pop.
The sails burned quickly, severely crippling the boat. Luna then ascended back up into the air and flew in a circle. She was coming back down for another go at the ship. Luna wasn't going to stop anytime soon. Sure, she was just a baby dragon yet, but she was also very dangerous too.
As for Victoria and Sam, they were busy keeping the cannons firing. Victoria was standing next to Sedrick, holding her golden trident in her left hand. As the last bit of the fog cleared, Victoria could now make out her target.
She lifted her trident over her shoulder. Then she threw her arm forward, releasing her trident. Her shiny, golden trident flew through the air until it landed on its target. Instead of lodging itself on the wooden hull of the ship, the trident pierced right through, creating a small hole.
Inside the pirate ship, the trident flew around. It was destroying anything and everything it could. Wooden ammunition crates, food chests, and breaking a few tables and chairs as well. On its way back out, it broke through the wooden hull once more. Another hole was made.
The trident flew back to Victoria. She held her hand out so that she could catch it. Sam looked over at her.
"Tell me why you didn't use that sooner?" Sam questioned.
"I have to let you have some fun too," Victoria said, "don't want to steal the spotlight. Now what fun would that be?"
Sam rolled his eyes dramatically. He sighed. He lit the fuse to another cannonball. Again, the fuse burned rapidly. BOOM! The cannonball was fired.
Back on the ship where Sedrick was stationed, it was still tilting to his left. How much longer until the damage is fixed below? It shouldn't take that long to fix a couple of holes. Because Sedrick was so focused on dealing damage to the nearby pirate ship, another one snuck up on them from the starboard side of the boat. It was moving fast, not showing any signs of slowing down. The ship was closing in quickly.
"Hard to Port!" The Captain shouted to the blockhead steering the ship. He began turning the wheel quickly to the right. As the ship began turning to port, it tilted noticeably. Everyone maintained their balance.
It had seemed that the pirate ship was purposely going to slam into the ship Sedrick was on. Luckily though his ship steered clear and avoided collision. Sedrick and the others loaded their cannons and lit the fuses of the cannonballs.
The cannons launched the cannonballs one by one. Because the two ships were in close proximity to each other, all of the shots fired hit the pirate ship. Massive holes appeared. Water began flooding the enemy ship. The pirate ship tilted severely to the right. Their ship was going down fast. Nice try pirates. Better luck next time.
But because everyone onboard Sedrick's ship was focused on that pirate ship, another pirate ship closed in. No, it wasn't going to slam into his ship. Instead of launching cannonballs, the pirates readied their bow and arrows. The tips of their arrows were sprinkled with gunpowder, making them more deadly.
The pirates quietly launched their arrows at Sedrick's ship, managing to deliver deathly blows. As the arrows hit the ship, they exploded. Fires erupted in the wakes of the explosions. Sedrick and everyone were stunned, not knowing how to react. Two of the explosive arrows struck just above the waterline. When they exploded, they created even more holes that Carl and Annabelle had to fix. Supplies were limited.
But before anyone could react, the ship suddenly exploded. Sending pieces of wood, iron, and fences flying high into the air. The explosion was so severe, water flew into the air as well, blinding everyone else from seeing if anyone survived. Once the smoke and water cleared, the sight became visible.
It was a large burning ship that was sinking quickly. All who were aboard were not visible. Did anyone survive? By the looks of it, probably not.
