Chapter 12 - The last member of the Kudo family

Thanatos and Morgana were now standing together in an alley to discuss everything again.

Thanatos was right now on the phone and talking to his mother; he wanted to confirm that the woman was somehow related to his mother. He hated only the thought that someone could lie to him about things.

"Oh, Irena. Everything this woman said was true. Is there a problem out there? Is the mission not too hard for you?"

Helene was concerned about her son. It was not his first time in the human world. He often went there, but seeing how Camilla is gathering information from everywhere and the fact that it took quite a while for him to finish this mission, she could not help herself. She needed to ask.

"Everything is alright for the time being. It just takes longer searching for three random souls than hunting down a weak dreadharvester."

Thanatos felt weird needing the help of his mother. He wanted to get this mission done by himself.

"And if something bad happens, you will find out about it from Camilla. You know that she has a good feeling for that."

Thanatos grinned. He knew that he had to convince himself, and he felt dump for not calling for help. This mission is normally too hard and big for someone like him.

Thanatos said goodbye to his mother and then hung up the phone.

He put the phone in his pocket and looked up at the sky.

"Hey, Morgana. Do you think what I just did was dump?"

"No, remember. We are not humans or other beings who are allowed to commit a sin. But we don't have to kill our feelings. Pride is nothing bad."

She knew exactly how he felt. She felt like in the second, they would ask for reinforcement. They would declare that they lost.

And she felt that there was something more for him. But she couldn't tell what it was.

Morgana gave Thanatos a sign to go, and soon they left.

They walked towards the place where they could get some more information. The supernatural mountain.

When they arrived at the mountain, the whole mountain was invisible to beings without supernatural powers. They couldn't even touch it.

They walked inside a forest, the mist was so strong that they couldn't even see where they were walking. Without their grim reaper eyes, it would be impossible for them to see, even in their own way. They walked through nothingness. They saw only white, and they walked slowly. They walked for hours; they walked so long that a new day began. The mist slowly became less, and they were finally able to see exactly where they went. They had to walk back several times. They only know what they searched for. But not where it was, and finally, after several hours, they saw an old temple.

In the temple, there was nothing much.

"Who are you?"

A manly voice echoes through the place.

"Thanatos Gravestone and Morgana, grim reapers, we are here to ask about some things.

A minute went by, and nothing happened. But after some time, a person was seen. It was an old man. He had a short gray beard, was small, and wore traditional Japanese clothes.

"What brings you here?" The old man asked.

"We are searching for Aiko Yamamoto and found out that she had the powers of an exorcist."

Morgana replied quickly. She knew one thing: this man was powerful.

"Oh, Aiko. She is my discipline. She comes here for a few days, all two weeks, and should come back here by tomorrow."

The man said this while stroking his beard.

What the man said matched their information. She had to be kidnapped somewhere last week, and if she came back tomorrow, everything would match perfectly.

"How strong was she?"

Morgana asked with a serious expression.

"She was not that strong by now. But she has endless potential." The man replied.

"Was she strong enough to defend herself against someone like a demon by now?"

Thanatos was now the one asking.

The man thought for a moment and then said something interesting.

"She does not have to defend herself against a demon. For a demon, it is impossible to touch her."

"What do you mean with that? A demon can't touch her. Normally, that is only possible for an angel."

Morgana nearly screamed these words out. There was no way a human could have such power.

"You need to know that Aiko Yamamoto isn't her real name. But before I can tell you this, the two of you have to follow me inside."

Thanatos and Morgana faded inside. What they now heard struck them down like a thunderbolt. They had to know it. When the old man was inside, he held his hand there, where a thin, transparent wall appeared.

"Her real name is Haruka Kudo. She is the last member of the Kudo family. A family of legendary exorcists. With incredible skills."

The two of them looked in shock at the fact that the exact same Aiko Yamamoto was now the last member of her family.

"You have to find her. Whatever it is that kidnapped her has to be caught. She is too important."

The old man was concerned. For him, this girl was like an adopted granddaughter.

"And what is with her parents?" Morgana asked.

"She is their adopted daughter. She lost her parents when she was nine."

The old man was still concerned. He knew a few things about grim reapers, and one of them was that they never did things that would be concerning. But what he did not know was that a grim reaper would now be his enemy.
