Chapter 6 - Selling at the Market

Lily and Ambrose both started making a plan together completely ignoring their father. After a few minutes, another customer came by and asked about prices.

Lily stood up and spoke proudly, "Well the dado nuts are five worth 2 small copper, but I suggest you go for these carrot roots. The carrot root is nutritious and very good for the body! Just look at me and my brother! We both eat things like this every day and even at three years old we look like this!"

Lily proudly showed her chubby cheeks that had baby fat. The woman looked with slight curiosity and nodded, "Alright little lady, what is your price for the carrot root?"

"It is worth five small copper-"

Ambrose spoke up interrupting his sister, "Lily you can't just lower the price like that! It is worth eight small coppers! You know that just because it isn't selling well you can't just lower it so much!"

Lily put on an embarrassed face as she looked down shyly, "Well..."

Edmund watched all of this thinking, 'Lower price! What do you mean by lower price? Don't they know being honest is the best way to sell?! These kids don't know how to sell at all..." Smiling bitterly he decided that he would teach them how to sell later. After he was a proud man, how could his selling style be worse than his children?

The lady looked at their interaction with some amusement before looking at their father. Seeing Edmund look at his children with a bitter smile the woman took out eight copper and handed it to the little Lily.

"Here child I will take your word for it."

Lily put on an excited expression as she took the money and bowed.

Ambrose on the other hand grabbed five dado nuts and the carrot root and handed both to the woman. Before bowing and speaking. "Here take this! Thank you for your patronage!"

The woman simply smiled and stored her items in a small sack. "Thank you children!"

As they waved goodbye as the woman left the stand. Ambrose and Lily handed the eight small copper to Edmund, "See dad, we told you you suck at selling."

Edmund on the other hand just looked at the small copper in his hand with shock. In his heart, he was questioning everything. It wasn't the first time he had tried to sell his wares, but several times even merchants wouldn't buy everything from him. After all, he had several plants that were unknown to people. Something unusual is often ignored as people look to more familiar items, like dado nuts.

"Ummm... If you kids want you can help me sell some more?"

Ambrose looked at his father with some pity as he reached up to pat his shoulder, "Sure. We can help you sell these."

Edmund looked down while frowning. He knew his child was simply comforting him, but he felt far too embarrassed to respond. He was supposed to be the parent, yet his child was acting like he was the child.

After a while, Ambrose and Lily took turns trying several different selling strategies. Several worked, but some were a complete failure. Some of which they forced their father to participate in. In the end, after only five hours they had sold most of the produce they brought.

Unable to stand it any longer, Edmund packed up his stand and decided to take control of the situation, "Alright how about we take this time to look around the town?"

After tying up the Horse Hound Edmund took his kids all around town while explaining everything.

"That is the Chapel for the church of Mana. You will get your talent tested there in the future.

That is the town hall where all the officials work.

That is the blacksmith.

That is the local clothing store, but it is too pricy for most people so it doesn't get many customers.

That is just a rich person's house.

That is the town mage's house. It is made of magic materials!

This is the hospital- Why are you backing away?"

"Ugghh- Dad why don't we just head home?"

"Sure? Well, the hospital is where you can go if you are sick." Edmund looked at his children in confusion. This was the first time they hadn't simply looked at something like it was nothing. Seeing them afraid of the hospital that should be a place of universal aid, he decided that the next time he brought his kids to town he would get them adjusted to the hospital.

Shaking his head he picked up the Horse Hound and started to head home once again.

Things in the forest home continued like normal for the next three months. After which the small family welcomed a new member.

"WAAA! WAAA!"

"Congratulations on your daughter! Looks like she talks a lot more than your last ones. HAHA!" Freda the Doula spoke with a smile as she wrapped up the baby.

"Thank you Miss Freda. Here is the payment." Edmund quickly took out the coins and handed them to Freda.

"Edmund you really need to work harder, these little ones are already three years old and only now do you have another child? How are you going to take care of this large amount of land!" Freda looked like she was the wife dissatisfied with her husband's progress.

"Yes yes, I will call you over in the future when we have our next children." Edmund could only nod his head repeatedly. It wasn't that he didn't want more children, but as he was setting up the farm he had struggled to have much time for his family. Now that it was all set up, he only needed to till and care for the land, he knew that Freda would become a yearly visitor.

"HAHA! That's the spirit!" Freda laughed loudly as she slapped Edmund's shoulder.

"Thank you Miss Freda."

"No problem Adeline, I will get going. After all you live so far away from town, it takes three riding a cart just to get here!" Freda acted dramatically as if it was a great hassle to get here from town. That said Freda didn't have work constantly so it shouldn't be that great of a hassle.

Saying their goodbyes the couple started talking amongst themselves.

"She is so expensive."

"But worth it. Just look at our daughter!"

"Yes..." Adeline looked at her child with love.

"What do you want to name her?"

"I am not sure..."

"How about...
