Chapter 10 - Age-Up

Time passed and soon Aroura's birthday came and went. She received about the same party as the twins with a mathematics book instead.

The twins soon stopped exploring as they couldn't find any more plants in their territory. Instead, they started to focus more on their special personal interests.

"Look Adeline. Ambrose is finally acting as a filial son and is helping me farm." Edmund spoke while wiping away a fake tear.

"Yes, for the first time since they learned to walk Lily has stayed home." Adeline was also wiping away a fake tear.

"And Aroura! She is staying and learning to read and write with such great fervor!"

That said, the couple was ignoring the fact that only their newborn babies actually stayed close. None of the children who could walk were paying attention to the parents.

Ambrose ignored his father most of the time while he focused on finding the best way to make a farm more efficient. Other times he was finding unique ways to harvest faster. He only seemed to care for the farms and would often chase his father off a farm whenever he saw the slightest chance to do so.

Lily built a porch on one side of the house and spent her time experimenting with a large field of plants. She had made great strives to make separate fields that held her different experiments. Whenever anyone except Aroura stepped inside her experimentation garden she would do her best to shove everyone out!

Aroura had spent her time perfecting her writing style along with learning the base twelve number system. She had spent a long time kicking her mother out of the room to let leave her alone as she prettied her writing style.

*Authors Note*

*Base twelve makes sense and you can't tell me otherwise. All you have to think is stop thinking about numbers as two digits and instead have them being represented by a single digit with twelve being the first two-digit number similar to ten. Using letters we can represent this.

z=0

a=1

b=2

c=3

...

k=11

az=12

aa=13

ab=14

...

ak=23

bz=24

*Being stuck in a base ten makes it hard to understand. I just wanted to show that people are simply far too limited and stuck in their ways to realize other options can exist and work the same or even better. I also understand most people don't want to understand this so I won't go too deeply into this knowledge.

"Yes! I am so proud of our kids for starting their duties as filial duties."

"You will also stay and be filial right?" Looking down at Kabir in her arms, Adeline spoke like the proud mother she was.

"Should we go back? After all, it is our sixth birthday." Lily looked at her brother while hugging Aroura.

Ambrose looked tired as he sighed, "I know we have to, but it is a pain. This is such a big celebration with so many people we don't know anything about. I would rather stay and farm." After saying this he used his scythe to cut some wheat.

"Brother you say that you need to go yet you stay here still farming," Aroura spoke with a look of disappointment in her brother.

Ambrose who was smiling while looking at his grains suddenly froze, "Ugghh... You are right Aroura." Throwing the grains in a small bag he kneeled down to look Aroura in the eyes as he spoke, "You know what is best."

Hearing this Aroura put on a proud expression as she puffed out her chest. "Of course!"

Seeing this Lily only hugged her sister tighter as she whispered, "Aroura give us strength!"

Walking back to the house the trio saw the large banner sewn by their mother. It had their names written in big letters along with some floral patterns at the edges. Standing around were twenty adults all seated at a long table along with some kids.

Adeline was running around as she served various guests. Six other women helped her as they were serving beer, cider, watered-down juices, baked goods, and vegetable soup. Beer was a common beverage that everyone knew and 'ate', yes eat not drink. Although the beer could be purified to not have grain in it, as impoverished commoners, eating the beer like a porridge was the best choice.

This soup was special because only here at their farm could one find everything needed to make it. Puffball mushrooms were the main ingredient that couldn't be found anywhere. Even their family only had a few farms to grow a special kind of puffball mushroom. You see puffballs are very difficult to propagate and often they simply don't follow the wishes of farmers.

"Hello." Waving hello to their father who was entertaining guests the trio walked in as if they were just guests themselves.

"HEY! Not so fast you two! Can't you see that it is your celebration! Come over here and meet the guests!" Edmund couldn't let them pass so easily and quickly dragged the pair to start making the rounds introducing themselves among the dozens of guests. More of which were still arriving.

This was the first time they had ever had to even consider doing something like this. Most of the people their parents knew had children who were way older or slightly younger than themselves. Knowing this they might be forced to get to know others if their parents are invited to the kid's sixth's celebration.

So with a resigned sigh, the twins walked alongside their father to give an awkward welcome to the strangers who seemed to know them. The strangers even acted as if they knew the twins as well as their parents knew them. Yet they couldn't recognize anyone!

While looking around the celebration, the twins saw several kids who were around a year younger than themselves. Knowing that they might be forced to be in the kid's celebration they made a mental note to treat those with a higher level of courtesy.
