Chapter 37: Easy Fishing Method!
"Are those birds related to crows?"
I asked because there were brownish bird-like monsters near the riverbank.
"No, they are different. Those are Brookbirds. They are relatively easy-to-defeat bird-type monsters. However, it can be troublesome when they attack in groups."
I haven't fought any bird-type or aerial-type monsters before. It might be a good opportunity to test my skills.
"Master, we are surrounded."
The Brookbird I had seen earlier was just a small portion of them; the rest had completely surrounded us.
There were about fifty of them, roughly speaking.
Now, what should I do...?
More importantly, is the "Danger Detection" not activated because it doesn't consider them a threat?
I let Kuro check the situation from the air while Shiro and I prepared our magic attacks to defeat them.
Three of them charged towards us.
As I was about to cast "Fire Bow,"
"No, it won't work. They are water-element monsters, so fire magic has little effect."
"Eh?! They are water-element?"
Upon Shiro's warning, I tried to cast "Thunder Strike," but I was too slow, and I took a direct hit from the Brookbird's attack.
"Master!"
Shiro worried about me, but I didn't feel any pain at all.
This must be the effect of "Body Strengthening" and "Physical Damage Reduction"!
"Thank you for your concern, Shiro. I'm completely fine!"
I replied with a smile.
Now, I can handle them even if they come all at once!
"Shiro, please stay a bit away! I want to test a certain attack."
I distanced myself from Shiro and left myself defenseless, and the Brookbirds started attacking one after another.
Despite their attacks with beaks and claws, I received almost no damage.
When a certain number of them had gathered, I cast "Thunder Strike" and attacked myself.
Before it hit my body, the attack was reflected, and the Brookbirds that were attacking me were instantly electrocuted.
"Magic Reflection (x2)" even works as a self-harm technique.
Since it reflects back to the attacker, magic is activated around me.
With "Magic Power Increase (x10)," I can actually deal twenty times the normal damage.
Some of the Brookbirds that hadn't attacked also seemed to realize they couldn't win and left the area.
Thinking that the Brookbird corpses might become food, I put them directly into the item box.
If this attack is possible, then maybe...
While confirming that "Danger Detection" didn't go off, I soaked myself in the river up to my waist and used "Thunder Strike" again, just as before.
The fish around me fainted and floated up, one after another, with their bellies up.
Some of them were already dead...
Just as planned! Now I can easily catch fish.
I had Kuro retrieve the floating fish and put them in the item box.
