Chapter 42 - Chapter 41

Chapter 41: Currency Value!

"Welcome to the fortified city of Zeke."

As I passed through the main gate, a girl welcomed me with a loud voice.

So, this is what the city is like?

Not knowing where to go, I looked around, and the girl from earlier approached me.

"Is there something troubling you?"

"I'm looking for an inn."

"In that case..."

She introduced me to three inns in this town.

Among them, I decided on the inn she described as humble and asked her for directions.

It's quite difficult to understand.

"Wait a moment."

Fran took out paper and something to write with from her bag.

She wrote down the directions the girl gave her and added additional notes on the paper.

"Is it something like this?"

The girl looked at Fran's map and said,

"You're really good at this! It's easy to understand."

"Thank you."

"Will you be staying in this town for a while?"

"Yes, I'm considering living in this town if possible."

Is Fran considering finding work in this town or, if not, moving to the next town?

"If you're staying in this town for a while, can you make another map for me next time?"

"Oh, sure."

"I'm Ayame. Nice to meet you."

"I'm Fran. Nice to meet you too."

After parting ways with Ayame, I headed towards the inn.

As expected, being a town, there was a bustling flow of people.

Fran seemed bewildered, as it was her first time in such a crowded place.

"You guys don't have money, but what are you going to do?"

Both of them said they would look for a place where they could work and live.

I was worried if they could find such a place so easily, but they said they would do their best on their own for now.

"If you don't have a place to stay tonight, make sure to contact me!"

They expressed their gratitude, but it would be difficult for them to find work within the day.

Luckily, I had gold coins that I had taken from goblins and orcs.

However, until I understand the value of this world, I can't afford to waste them.

In this omniscient and omnipotent state, currency exchange is done with gold coins.

One thousand gold coins can be exchanged for one platinum coin, but they are not commonly circulated.

They are mainly used for transactions among merchants and such.

My current possession is approximately 700,000 gold coins.

It seems that goblins and orcs have no use for them, so I've been hoarding them in large quantities.

However, I don't know the exchange rate for monster loot.

"Shall we take a break here?"

The purpose is to check the currency value, but Fran seems to be feeling sick or overwhelmed by the crowd.

"Welcome!"

The store clerk greets us cheerfully.

We are led to our seats and handed a menu.

From the characters on the menu, I can't imagine what kind of drinks or food they offer.

"I don't really know, so Marie, please order something random."

"Ordering something random is the most troublesome thing..."

Marie ordered something random for me.

After a while, our order was brought to us.

In a cup, there was a brownish drink, something like bread, and something salad-like.

I took a sip of the drink. It felt like weak black tea.

The bread-like thing was quite hard.

The salad-like thing had a salty flavor, far from dressing, but it was reasonably tasty.

While talking about various things, we headed to the inn where I planned to stay, and from there, I would go about my personal activities.

I made the inn where I planned to stay as the meeting place in case something happened.

"I'll pay for this."

"Thank you."

"Thanks."

I calculated the amount written and called the store clerk to make the payment.

"Just a moment, please."

They were calculating each item we ordered.

Can't they do the math?

"Here you go, it's exactly right. Thank you very much."

We left the shop and arrived at the inn where I planned to stay, then we parted ways.

When I informed them that I would be staying for one week at the inn, it cost 50 gold coins per night.

Despite being for commoners, it gave an impression of being quite expensive.

Is it because it caters to adventurers and travelers that they set higher prices?

When I convert it to currency, it turns out I'm wealthier than I thought!

For now, I decide to go to the guild hall to register as an adventurer.
