Chereads / My Mate Is a Werewolf / Chapter 18 - 18

Chapter 18 - 18

The room around me slowly comes into focus and I slowly sit up. I rub my neck and wince after touching a sore spot.

"Guess that wasn't a dream."

I head towards the mirror and lower my blouse revealing my red bruised and swollen neck. I run a ginger over the wound and close my eyes in pain. The door opens and I leap back in fright. Black walks I to the room holding a basin of water.

"Sister..."

He walks towards me and I instinctively jump back and hide behind my wardrobe door. He stiffens for a second before slowly walking towards me.

"Stay away from me!"

"Sister, am sorry can you hear me out?"

I poke my head out and look at him.

"Am sorry what?"

"I need to explain my actions but I'll need you to trust me and hear me out."

"Why would I do that? You nearly killed me yesterday."

He sighs looking defeated and places the basin on the bedside table before his gaze lands on me.

"Can you please hear me out?"

I study his face and tell he's regretful, guilty and sad. I let out a sigh and close the door. I walk towards the side of the bed and cross my arms.

"Get to it."

He walks up to me and clasps my chin, raising my head as he studies the wound of my neck. I slap his hand away and he reluctantly withdraws it.

"Let me help you."

"That's a thought, take a look at the damage you caused."

He pulls back hurt flashing through his eyes at the remark and I sigh into my hand.

"Black, recently you've been nothing but a jerk, attacking me out of thin air and not to mention where you almost killed me. I'd like to know the reason as to why you did that to your own sister, your only remaining family."

He closes his eyes pondering for a minute before opening them.

"Am sorry about everything I've done sister. I promise I'll explain everything just let me tend to your neck."

"Fine."

I flop over the bed and he moves my hair away from my neck and carefully tilts my chin up. I comply obediently as he gently wipes over the wound with the warm water. The pain slowly subsides and Black places the towel into the basin before turning to me.

"Are you hungry?"

As if the question was meant for it, my stomach rumbles loudly and Black chuckles.

"Let's go get you some food sister."

I follow behind him as he leads me towards the dining room and serves me a plateful of waffles. After breakfast, Black and I sit in silence waiting for the other to speak up.

"So- I suppose you should know why I detest Kahiki."

I look at him imploring him to continue and he lets out a frustrated sigh.

"Kahiki among his other vampire clan have been nothing but torment to us."

"Vampires?"

He nods ruely and from his tone, I can't help but feel he's being sincere.

"Vampires? Werewolves? They are all just a modern day fantasy right? There's no way they exist."

"You don't believe me?"

"Who'd believe something like that? Am heading out before your weirdness gets to me."

"But-"

"I thought you were going to explain your actions but instead you blame it on imaginary beings?"

I walk out and he doesn't move to follow me. I pull out my phone and dial Luna's number, on the second ring she picks up.

"Hello?"

"Hi Luna, can we talk?"

"Sure, what's up?"

"Where are you? I'll come over."

"Am at home, I was about to leave but I guess that'll have to wait."

"Okay, am on my way."

I hang up and make my way towards her apartment. I raise my hand to ring the doorbell when the door swings open revealing a lavished room.

"Hey Nine, come in."

I walk past her and she closes the door behind her.

"Are you okay?"

She sits next to me on the couch and I bury my head in my hands. The over whelming emotions I'd been holding in; fear, anger and hurt get an upper hand and I sob into my hands. Luna strikes my back in a circular manner and my sobs quiet down. After taking a few breaths to compose myself, I lift my head from my hands.

"What happened?"

"It's Black."

"You're brother?"

I nod slowly and look at my hands.

"He keeps on insisting about vampires and werewolves existing. He also said that Kahiki is a vampire..."

I explain in details about how he almost killed me and his warnings and she nods her head.

"You've gone through so much these past few days, am glad you could confide in me."

"Of course, you're my best friend, there shouldn't be any secrets between us right?"

She nods and places her hand on my shoulder.

"Vampires and werewolves are in deed modern fantasy, don't think too much about it. I know what you need."

I look at her and she claps her hands together.

"You need a distraction and what better way than going to the arcade and cinemas?"

A soft chuckle escapes my lips and Luna pulls me to my feet, dabbing at the dried tears with her handkerchief. She laces her fingers with mine and together we head to the mall.

"No fair, you tricked me," Luna says as she playfully pouts her lips," another round."

She inserts a coin into the game and seconds later, I emerge the winner.

"You cheated Nine!"

"What? Are you blaming me for your bad skills?"

"Just you wait, this next round I'll definitely beat you."

"You've said that for more than a hundred times and the result is always the same."

"Am confident this time. I know I'll beat you."

I shrug and she I settle the coin starting the game. Just as am about to score full points, a picture of a girl flashes through my mind.

"Nine- help me-"
