Chapter 4 - PROLOGUE IV: The Noble Thief

DANTE SMITH POV

As I walk towards the adventure guild, it's crowded like it normally is since this is, after all, the nomad kingdom, the land of lawlessness, and everyone wants an opportunity for money and power. I have been scouting this place for a few days, so when I finally decided to come here, I would be at least ready for the bare minimum. I enter the guild, and although it looks rundown from the outside, it's much cleaner than expected. There are a few side glances at me, but I made sure to look as unimportant and poor as possible so that I'm ignored. Once I reach the desk, I see a woman who I think is an elf by her pointed ears.

"I want to become an adventurer," I ask, not wanting to waste any more time.

"No," she replies without hesitation.

"You're too young for this guild, or any guild, for that matter," she continues.

Then, out of nowhere, I'm picked off the ground, and I can already guess that it's probably someone who wants the money I was going to use to register for the guild.

{Haha, you got caught.}

I ignore the system message and remove my shirt before he says anything. I slide in between the guy's legs, and as I slide, I touch the ground, infuse mana, and push the earth downward, making an earth pit under him that he falls into.

"That should be enough for a while," I think to myself.

"So will this", smirked while holding his money pouch.

{DAAAAAAMMMMMMN, you should forget your life and be a thief.}

I watched that dumbass; his pattern of intimidating newbies was a smart plan but not well executed; he would always put money in the same bag, not even trying to hide it. I run towards a deserted alleyway with a dead end, then I empty the pouch, drop it, then use the earth pit spell on myself, and I then push the earth underneath the wall and pop out on the other side. I fill the earth back up and keep running.

Once I'm totally out of range, I stop running and look at my hand. There are about 7 gold coins and 200 silver coins there, and although I didn't become an adventurer, I still gained from it.

I walk to another deserted alley to bring out my inventory pouch that I hid and put the money inside. Sitting down, I bring out a proper shirt and change my trousers too before checking my status. I look through it, noticing my mana went down quite a bit because of the spells I used, but nothing else was out of the ordinary, at least.

{Notice: You now have the title, unexpected poor thief.}

"Son of a bit..."

"I'm not even surprised anymore", I decide to walk out of the alley.

Since my first plan failed to make me stronger by killing monsters as an adventurer, I just did the opposite. I headed to the market area and bought a sledge axe, some armor, daggers, health potions, mana potions, and finally mana bombs. I place them all in my inventory and head off to the best kill site, a dungeon.
