Chapter 5 - PROLOGUE V: Poor Ideas

TETSUSKI POV

I am woken up by the smells that are my life: the smell of failure, poverty, and, worst of all, shit; lots and lots of shit. I get off the floor and walk to the kitchen, which is right next to my room; after all, we have only two rooms in the house. I help my mom with the food, or as I like to call it, stone bread. Biting into it, I feel it crack under my teeth before a disturbing crunch sound, then swallow what felt like marbles and sludge mixed together.

"It tasted a little better than last time," I say cheerfully to my mom.

{I absolutely can't wait for you to eat actual food}

"What's that meant to-", I'm caught off guard by a system message

{Notice: Due to your constant eating of objects, you have gained the title trash eater}

I dropped what I thought was read in shock.

{If you thought you were getting a skill, keep dreaming}

{I'll give you a skill if you do this}

{Title: Lowlife

Rank: E-

Duration:∞

Pass condition: Eat trash that even commoners wouldn't eat (0/10).

Lose condition: Not eating the right trash or making me bored

Reward: poison resistance

Failure: ????

Description: You have eaten what others call trash, but you need to go a step further if you want power. Eat trash that even someone in your state wouldn't eat, and you will get a reward.}

I look at the contents of the quest in shock, partially because of the school but mostly because I have not been eating actual food. The quest flashes in front of me again, and I'm about to click accept when I have an idea. I rush outside, and sure enough, there is shit, trash, and even dead bodies everywhere due to the war, but no one will clean because it's too much work for little money.

{I don't like where this is going}

But since I know ways we can reuse all of them, I do it for free, then slowly collect money from each person for the job. Once my reputation increases, I can even start a business with this.

{I hate slice-of-life stereotypes, Its boring}

I ignore him and rush inside to begin my plans of getting the hell out of here, but I didn't know how much this would affect me so drastically, and it's all because of the system.
