Chapter 8 - PROLOGUE VIII: The smart one

TED BLACK POV

{Damn it}

"You thought I wouldn't figure it out", I say, smirking.

If you use the right approach, the system will occasionally mention stuff it is not supposed to. It is more likely that he is testing to see who can be useful right now, and from his tone, I am not the only one from this world. I have to maximize my mystery and persona to get perks without much hassle and survive. The purpose can't just be for entertainment; there are billions of people on this planet, so he must specifically need people who have reincarnated, but that's all I've gotten so far. I feel like it knows what I'm doing but is enjoying this game of charades we're playing. If that's the case, I will play this game with it, and I will be the winner.

It was almost as if it knew what I was thinking A message pops up.

{You can try}

Well, whether you like it or not, I got a lot of info", I say with a cocky attitude.

{Tch}

So from what I have gotten, I am a demon from the demon kingdom called Parek, and I'm the son of the demon king, Valentine Black. When I say status, it brings up a window with extremely detailed information about myself, even my current body status. Under my name is a blacksmith, and under that are titles, of which I don't have any, which annoyed me, but my mood lightened when I saw the magic I had. All four basic elements were there, and there was something extra: Spatial magic. I had just finished tricking the system into explaining the fundamentals of it; it's something that can control space in a certain region, and you can also save it in another space that's so small that no one can see it. The only spell under spatial I can use right now is inventory; the rest are just bullet variants of the other affinities.

Next were status points, which were used to increase your body's physical power and skill proficiency. They can be gained only by leveling up your general self, and my current level is 1, so the most efficient way to grow is to level up only after you understand what you're capable of, as it gets harder to grow and change at higher levels. After that are all the different capabilities of my physical body, including mana, which is, in summary, the way to manifest supernatural power.

Of course, there are other ways to manifest these powers, but that's not my concern right now. Then following it is all the spells I can use right now, their levels, and their information, which explains the details of the spell based on what you know, which means there can be other uses, meaning that magic is only limited by the knowledge possessed by the individual. The best thing now is studying everything about magic in this world, including my class and other affinities, so I should head to the library, but first I need to meet with the Demon King so that I can get on his good side. After all, this is his castle, and based on the memories of this body, he is someone who will care for you as long as you are useful to him.

Without paying attention to my room or anything else, I walk straight to the advisor of the king instead of the king himself to book an appointment, which is smarter as he is always busy and just barging in on him will piss him off, which is bad, so I walk up to him and realize this is the first demon I'm seeing in this world. He has a slim, chiseled face that is almost skinny, long, dark, smooth green hair that comes with a goatee, and a skinny but slightly built body stature. Every single movement was smooth, as if he were a ripple moving through the water, as he turned his body to face me and greeted me I return his greeting, as This body remembers to

"Mr. Ted, what are you here for? Are you here for the king?" He says in a deep, smooth voice,

" I would like to schedule an appointment with the king", I say in the most dignified voice I can fake

He side-eyes me like he is about to decline. I kneel and say, "I have wasted time and have accomplished nothing since my birth. I am now 12 and understand the error of my ways and what must be done to be seen as a true member of Parek. If needed, I will take any challenge you give me to prove myself; all I ask is for a chance to prove myself."

He pauses like he is considering something, but likely the king was communicating with him in some way or form; he can't make decisions like this without permission. After a while, he gestures to me towards the door that looked normal but strangely modernized but had an outline of mana on it that was probably meant to kill or knock out when needed or when he is annoyed.

I twist the handle and push the door aside. Inside the room was a grey ceiling with a long black rug down the middle and a long black desk made out of some kind of bone, and seated at it was a figure I couldn't see even with the light in the room; he seemed to be deliberately not showing his identity. I approach his table with caution before kneeling to greet him.

"I need you to understand firstly that I'm not a bad person at heart for not caring for my children; we have been at war with the human kingdom for centuries, and those blasted gods won't help us", he says with his voice coming from all locations at once

" You don't need to test me It's my incompetence; we have a duty to the citizens, and I only realized just now the role we have to play in their protection. The pride of a prince isn't involved with this; it's what is right for my people in the right direction, and at my age, I'm strong enough to help this kingdom or start to help, and I

"No," he says, cutting me off, "I don't need worthless people helping me; it would only increase the workload. I will give you a month to get ready; a test will be given to you; the exact time and location will not be revealed, but after a month you will be tested without fail, and if you prove the results I wish to see, you will be given a reward depending on your performance."

He pauses to look at me, and I manage to make out his eyes in the vacuum that is his body. They seemed to be warning me and flickering to different colors. I almost got mesmerized, but then his voice cuts through my thoughts. " Don't be a disappointment." He snaps his fingers, and I feel like I let go of a breath I was holding.

The advisor looks at me as though he expects me to fail, which I refuse to accept. I will pass the trial, though I know that much. As I walk back, a quest appears just as I expected it to. I read it and notice an interesting message appear after.

"Seems like instead of preparing for the test, I should prepare in advance for what comes after," I say with a smirk. "This is going to be relatively easy," I say with a smile.
