"Wonder when Aldrich will be back", Remi thought. She was lying on the bed in her room.
"Would he be alright? Should I go check on him" but quickly discarded the thought, as Aldrich was far stronger than her.
"I should search for the man we are here for" Remi got up, preparing her weapons for the mission.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Who's there, Aldrich? Is that you?" Remi asked.
"I am the receptionist. We are giving every room free fruits", the voice said.
"Come in", Remi said, holding a dagger behind her back.
The door opened, and the receptionist held a basket of fruits.
Remi instantly leapt towards the receptionist, slitting the receptionist's throat with the poison-laced dagger.
"How" The expression on the receptionist's face turned ugly.
"Your voice is different from what we heard earlier; you might be able to fool others, not me" Remi was an experienced assassin, sensitive to every little change in her surrounding.
Remi watched as the receptionist's body started to melt due to the potent poison.
"AAARGH ARRRGH" screamed, as a pitch black body was revealed underneath the melted skin.
"Demon", Remi instantly stepped back before throwing a barrage of daggers at the demon, instantly killing it.
She instantly realized the connection between commoners' strange disappearances and demons' presence, "I need to find Aldrich."
Remi sensed several footsteps rushing towards her room as she held both daggers in her hand, hiding in the shadows.
"Someone has killed one of our own", the demon said as it inspected the body of the dead demon.
"The window is still locked; search the room", it shouted as other demons started to search the room.
Remi jumped down the ceiling, striking the demon's neck, instantly killing it. Two demons jumped on her, and she evaded their claws and teeth by twisting her body, unleashing a barrage of strikes, killing the demons.
The last demon, noticing Remi's insane agility, summoned a torrent of Dark energy, increasing its physical prowess. Remi noticed this change as she stomped the ground, instantly destroying it, as they both fell to the floor beneath. Remi leapt towards the demon mid-air, slashing its throat.
Remi landed on the ground, only to realize she fell into a room full of demons,
"Fuck"
But before any demon could move, an intense aura erupted the entire room,
"Aeon Slash", a calm voice resounded as Aldrich jumped from the ceiling, holding his twin swords in an X shape, a radiant aura enveloping his blades, as the Dark and Light mana slashes erupted from within the sword, heading for the demons, instantly killing them.
The once imposing horde was reduced to a sea of dead demons in mere seconds.
"I am not late, am I?" he asked as he landed in the centre of the room, right next to Remi, noticing the sea of corpses of the demons.

….
The sound of these notifications was pleasant to Aldrich's ears.
"So, what's the situation? What was the result of your investigation?" Remi asked in her usual tone, even though she was happy that Aldrich was back.
"seventy per cent of the residents have been turned into demons; we need to get to the bottom of this while bringing back the man alive if he is still alive", Aldrich said.
"I have also contacted the bandits we met earlier; they will come to our aid soon" he brought Remi up to date with his information.
"So we follow with the same plan? I find the man while you will go and stop the one causing all this?" Remi asked.
"Yep".
"It's too dangerous; how about we find out the man later, and together we can first stop whoever is behind all this", Remi suggested; she knew that Aldrich would not be able to handle all the demons together.
Aldrich looked at her, "is she worried ?" he sighed before speaking,
"Don't worry, I can handle the demons; plus, the bandits will be here soon; they will handle most of the work. You go do your task. Don't forget demons aren't hard to kill, they haven't adjusted to the human bodies, but their strength lies in numbers. They will try to wear you out",
Remi didn't argue back; she knew Aldrich wouldn't listen.
"Okay, I will head out for the prison; there might be some clues there", Remi said before disappearing into a shadow.
Aldrich was left alone in the inn, thinking about his next steps to subdue the one who unleashed the demons.
"It might be a mid-ranking demon under Malphas; I must be careful. Lumi, can you sense the Demonic Energy?" he asked.
The sword started to glow as it nudged Aldrich's hand towards the direction of the Count's mansion.
"Good job", Aldrich said as he ran towards the Count's mansion.
He noticed the demons were already waiting for him on the territory's streets as they lunged at him.
Aldrich held the white sword In his hand, circulating light mana through it, the ethereal glow of the sword illuminating the darkness.
Aldrich met the onslaught head-on. His movements were blurry, his light-infused sword striking with blinding speed and precision.
He sidestepped a lunging demon, delivering a swift counterstrike that shattered its form. Another demon charged at him from the side, but with a lightning-fast parry, Aldrich deflected the attack and spun around, severing its head with a single precise strike.
Aldrich noticed that the few demons at the back were chanting, about to launch an area-wide spell; he leapt into the air before creating a slash of raw mana, heading straight for those demons. The demons tried to dodge, but the insane speed of the slash made it impossible for them to dodge.
"haha," Aldrich landed on the roof of the building, feeling tired from the battle. He looked at the never-ending hoard of demons, knowing he would have to destroy the source.
Meanwhile, on the cliff to the south of the territory,
"Boss, the entire city is filled with demons", one of the men said, looking at Mark, who was looking at the city that had plunged into darkness, with small flashes of light coming from the streets.
"What a monster", he muttered,
He went inside the cave before ordering his men,
"We will go help our friend. Call everyone who can battle. We will show them what happens when they mess with our family."
