Justin sat across the guild master and the desk girl stood by him.
"This is Emily. I believe you know her!" The guild master introduced and Justin nodded in a cool way. "My name is Hak, the master of this guild, as you know!" Once more, Justin nodded.
He didn't want to drop his mysterious aura and decided to simply nod to anything they say.
"I'm not really one with free time and right now, I'm in a bit of a rush so, how much is my money?" He asked, outrightly.
"We'll get to that." Hak said. "But first, we'd like to know how you were able to find so many beasts? There are hardly any magic beasts in the forest nowadays so… "
"And why would I tell you that?" Justin asked. "It's my business where I found those magic beasts. Do I have to explain this to you? Is this what you do to customers?" He suddenly got up. "Honestly, you're free to assume that I stole them cause I don't really have any plans on disclosing my daily habits to a few strangers."
His attitude stunned them to the point they couldn't utter a word and he started heading for the door.
"Goodbye!"
"Wait!" Hak called out with a desperate voice. "I didn't mean to sound rude or imposing. Honestly, it wasn't my intention to interrogate you or offend you so please, hear me out."
Justin took one good look at him. He looked desperate and also worried.
"And what if I say I don't want to?" He asked and the guild master flinched.
"Then, we can only escort you out as you wish!" He solemnly said.
"Alright! Goodbye!"
Justin was so adamant to not get himself involved with any of these people. Who knew what they wanted from him? Maybe they wanted to cut the price of his magic beast cores or worse, they wanted him to donate to their guild.
That wasn't gonna happen. He was having legitimate and genuine money for the first time. There was no way he'd share it with a bunch of strangers.
Just as he was about to open the door, Emily called out.
"Please wait." She said and walked up to him. "Believe me, we weren't trying to be rude." She said with her boobs lightly bouncing up and down and Justin nodded.
"You already said that." He said, trying to avoid his eyes from looking down at her clear cleavage.
"Then why are you leaving?"
"Emily, you shouldn't disrespect the guest!" Hak said a bit concerned.
"But father… no, I mean, guild master!" Emily pouted.
'So she's the guild master's daughter!' he thought, sneaking a peek at her boobs.
"We need help. We can't let him go before he hears us out." She turned to Justin, who quickly looked away. "Please, hear us out. We really need your help!"
"First of all, you don't even know who I am or if I'm capable of helping you. Why are you so confident that I can help, huh?"
"Anyone who can kill so many magic beasts is bound to be strong. So strong that we can't even fathom his strength!" She explained and he gave it a thought.
'Maybe I should've brought out only a few of the magic stones. But that's just a quarter, isn't it? I thought adventurers earn more than this.'
"So, will you help us out?" Emily inquired, with pleading eyes.
"You say you want me to help simply because of the number of beast cores I have. What if, just what if, I stole all those beast cores? Would you still think the same way?"
"Well… " she lowered her head.
"Haha! That's what I thought." He turned to the door. "People are always the same. They judge you based on your worth."
"We'll buy your beast cores!" Hak suddenly said. "So, wait a while let us analyse their grades!" He added.
Justin knew this might've been a ploy to get him to stay longer but he decided to stay anyway. Besides, he wasn't confident that he wouldn't have this type of conversation anywhere else. What if they took him as a real thief?
"Alright!"
"Please sit!"
Justin sat and as they analysed the beast cores, he couldn't help but feel bored. Was it supposed to take that long?
'System, can you like forward time or something? I think I'm gonna die of boredom!'
(Negative!)
'Hm, you're awfully quiet today. I'm starting to wonder if you're cooking up some scheme behind my back!'
(....)
'Hah, why did you stay quiet? Are you really cooking up some scheme?'
(Ding! New system skills added!)
"What the… ?"
"Is there a problem?" Hak asked, seeing his disgruntled look.
"No, it's fine. Continue!"
They continued and he continued his conversation with the system.
'What's the new skill? Is it something that'll make me look cool? Will I become invincible?''
(True heart! Users now have the ability to see a person's true heart!)
'What the…? What sort of skill is that? Why would I want to see a person's heart?'
(Users have a very poor judgement about people and the gods think, in order for you to believe in humanity, you have to see their inner self and differentiate between good and bad!)
'That's nonsense! I don't need this!'
(It's your call!)
Justin looked at the guild master and the beast core expert and wondered. No, he didn't need it. It was best to get less involved with people. That way, he can live well.
"These cores are all high grade!" The analyzer exclaimed in surprise. "There are rarely magic beasts in the forest these days so it's hard to think that someone can get these many high grade cores!"
"It truly is remarkable!" Hak agreed.
"Let's get this over with." Justin said. "Like I said, I'm a really busy man!"
"Ah, yes!" The analyzer continued as fast as he could.
'Hm, if I get enough, maybe I should buy a house for those girls to live in. A new bed as well and a few worn clothes. Yeah, that'd be nice!' he thought but somehow found it strange.
Why was he caring for those girls so much? He wasn't really the type to get involved with people.
Was it because they were from the slums like he was? Was it because they looked so bad and it reminded him of himself when it was clear that the world abandoned him?
Anyway, the look in their eyes was enough to make him smile. It was okay to live like this at least, right?
'Hey, system. You probably know how I'm viewing the world right now so, tell me this. Why did the gods choose me?' he asked in his thoughts and the system responded.
(The gods chose you for a reason!)
'This again?'
(But know that you were deemed worthy!)
