Chapter 12 - Jealousy

After riding Midnight, she led him back to the stable where she fed him hay.

She leaned by the gate of his pen and watched him eat in admiration.

"You look cuter like this," she said and stroked the bridge of his nose. "Just as your owner. He is strikingly handsome. The only problem with him is that he is very arrogant and cocky"

A muffled hmph came out of Midnight's nostrils.

"He chose to marry me yet he had the guts to allow Brownie Kinsley to cover his face with kisses"

Her mind flashed back to when she saw them together in his office. She clenched her jaw and balled her fists.

"That's what people like him do anyway. They are all alike and never committed to one person" "So commitment means that much to you?"

A familiar deep husky voice alerted her.

She looked towards the door and saw Don standing there. Embarrassed that he heard all she said, she stepped out of the pen and was about leaving but he blocked her from going.

"Move, I want to leave!" "Why are you leaving so soon? You were just having a talk session with my horse, don't let me interrupt you" he said with a chuckle, but she just got even more annoyed.

"So tell me, do you always talk with animals or is it just a rising bond with Midnight". His comments fuelled her annoyance more.

"Stop that! it's not funny" She said and slapped his chest.

"Careful love, you're going to hurt your husband if you continue hitting him like this" "Husband my foot! This very same husband of mine was receiving kisses from a woman that is not his wife"

"It's not like you're going to kiss me if I ask you to" "Still. You can't just kiss another woman when you are married"

"She kissed me on the cheek and it was just a 'hello' kiss, why are you overreacting?" "Overreacting?" she arched a brow up, "This is a fake marriage. You shouldn't care when you don't even like me"

"I was right. You clearly don't know the meaning of marriage" she said vexed and was about walking out of the door when he pulled her back.

He sniffed into the air, lowered his head down to sniff her, then pulled his head back.

"What?" she asked in anger. "Do you smell that?" "Smell what?" he sniffed about once more and leaned closer to her ear.

"It smells like... Jealousy!" he whispered. She pushed him and turned her back on him with a pout.

"Don't flatter yourself. I wouldn't bring myself down to be jealous of you and Brownie Kinsley" He chuckled with a mischievous smirk and moved closer to her.

"I'm sure you flared up once you saw her arms around my shoulder and her lips on my cheeks," he said provocatively in a low voice that almost made her melt.

She rolled her eyes and turned to him. His green eyes caught her unguarded... They were so bright that they struck her immediately.

She gulped before saying, "Everything you both did there didn't move a thing in me"

"Then why were you so angry?" "I wasn't angry" "You almost broke my door when leaving my office by slamming it so hard, you poisoned Camilla's food, you walked out on me while I was talking to you about meeting my Mum, and just now you were angrily ranting about me to Midnight"

"That's how a normal Friday goes in my life". "Sure. So tell me why you were so jealous" he smirked.

He found it amusing that she was jealous. At least now he knew she had little feelings for him.

"For the last time, I wasn't..." "Don!" Andrew called and ran inside, panting heavily.

"What happened?" he took on his straight face once more, "Your Mum is back. She just arrived and is settling down in her room"

"She wasn't supposed to be back until evening... Go and make sure she is satisfied. I'll be there in a while" Andrew nodded and left.

"Shall we?" "We? No! I'm not interested in meeting your Mum"

"I wasn't asking, love. You're meeting my Mum because I want you to. It's not your choice to make but mine. So you better come with me right now or enjoy the consequences of your action"

"Make me" she spurted.

"Trust me, love. You don't want me to do that" "Why? Are you going to punch my dad in his face again, or hold a gun up to his head?"

"This time, you will be the one suffering the consequences. That even reminds me" he smirked.

She moved backward as he went closer to her until her back came in contact with the wall.

He placed his hand on one side of her head and leaned in so close that his breath was fanning her lips. She couldn't stop herself from allowing her gaze to fall on his lips.

"It's been a week now and we haven't had our wedding night yet" she gulped.

'That voice!' It did magic to her insides.

She was confused as to how he had so much power over her body. She painfully knew that at this point, he could do whatever he wanted with her and she would give in unhesitantly. The thought alone terrified yet amused her.

"I don't plan on going easy on you. So if you want to still retain the ability of your leg to walk properly, then you'll follow me back to the house to greet and introduce yourself to my Mum. Okay?" he said in a seductive yet dangerously low tone.

"Fine! Let's go say hello to your dearly beloved mummy dearest" she replied grudgingly and headed out of the stables first.

He smirked as he watched her leave.

He clearly saw the desire and desperation building up inside her back there. Her eyes said it all. She was slowly and gradually falling for him and he was sure of it. He just needed to be patient. It would take a while before she will be able to settle with someone who assaulted her Dad.

His expression changed at the thought of Nicholas.

She was so blinded by her love for him that she probably didn't know what he was capable of doing. If only she knew what he did, she wouldn't defend him the way she was.

He shook his head with a tired sigh and was heading out of the stable when Midnight's neigh stopped him.

"So now you miss me. I shouldn't even be looking in your direction. I've been trying to get her to completely fall for me for about 2 or 3 weeks. Yet just one look at you and she already found you cute"

Another neigh fell out of his mouth as he pushed another pile of hay into his pen.

"You're stealing my woman's attention, Midnight. Stop it or else I'll sell you off" he warned jokingly and walked out of the stable.
