On November 23rd, Ember confessed her feelings for me. However, on that day, one of the worst and most stressful days of my life, I found myself unable to respond.
the day Ember, the girl I love, poured her heart out to me. Unfortunately, it happened to be one of the most challenging days of my life, as it was also the day of an important test.
She bravely expressed her feelings for me, but in my foolishness, I remained silent. I knew my lack of response might lead her to misunderstand, yet I still couldn't find the words. Despite this, she smiled and assured me that she would try to overcome her feelings. I didn't want her to do that, but my inability to speak persisted.
The root of my silence was a call from my father earlier. He inquired about Ember and the event she attended the day before, but I chose not to disclose anything about Ember. The call took a turn for the worse when my father shouted, "I told you to stay away from girls. You did it again, right?" The word "again" stung, and his disparaging remarks about Ember hurt even more. I couldn't remain silent this time.
"Yes, I am talking about Dupain-Cheng. You don't follow my orders, and now you've found a new one in just two years," my father yelled, expressing his frustration. I stood my ground, asserting, "I told you before, and I am telling you now. Marinette is just my friend, and about Ember, she is..." I paused, carefully choosing my words.
"Look, you need to stop. Did you start having feelings for her?" my father questioned, moving closer to me. "My son, you can do great things in the future, but your foolish hobbies of being an inventor and your friends are holding you back," he added, patting my shoulder. My attempts to explain were cut off.
"I hope we can talk again calmly," my father suggested.
In my frustration, I rushed out, heading to my room and slamming the door shut. I found it annoying that my father brought up Marinette again, unable to comprehend why he kept comparing Ember and Marinette, two entirely different individuals with distinct places in my life.
knocked gently on my room's door, "Knock, knock!" When I replied that I wasn't in the mood to talk, she persisted, gently opening the door and revealing herself. "It's me, Ember. Adrien."
Hearing her voice, my heart eased. Despite my efforts to conceal my vulnerable side, I couldn't hold back tears when she embraced me. Her soft, warm hug and comforting words, "It's okay. Everything will be alright," were exactly what I needed in that moment.
However, when Ember confessed her feelings to me, I couldn't bring myself to look at her. I felt something crucial was missing in my life, as if my heart stopped beating at that very moment. I held onto her hands as she mentioned leaving, unable to explain my actions. I asked if she had any questions, and she responded with a poignant statement.
"Why should I ask you? Did you ask me when I shouted at you because of someone else's anger? Did you ask me when I cried while talking to you? You didn't ask me anything but comforted me, so I am doing the same. I told you before, I want you to consider me as your best friend. That's it." With a gentle pat on my head, she left the room, leaving me in silent contemplation.
As I saw the door closing, my heart raced. Once it was fully closed, I took a deep breath, laid back on the bed, gazing at the ceiling, and pondered my own foolishness.
