Chapter 11 - potions

I looked at the items that appeared on the screen:

1. Soul Nourishment Potion Tier 3 - Cost: 5GP. Effect: Nourishes the soul of the baby in the mother's womb, increasing its intelligence and slightly improving its talent.

2. Body Nourishment Potion Tier 3 - Cost: 5GP. Effect: Strengthens the body of the baby, giving it strong bones and muscles, but it may lead to problems during childbirth.

3. Blood Potion Tier 5 - Cost: 10GP. Effect: Increases the bloodline purity after the child's birth, also enhancing its intelligence and physical strength based on the bloodline the child possesses.

4. Bloodline Strengthening Potion Tier 5 - Cost: 15GP. Effect: Strengthens one specific bloodline. If the child possesses more than one bloodline, the user must specify which bloodline to strengthen, and it may result in a mutation or the weaker bloodline being consumed by the stronger one.

After reading through the options, I felt excited about the data provided, as it would be helpful in increasing the talent of the unborn child. Now, I needed to decide between a conservative approach or going all-in. If I bought the two Tier 3 potions, it would increase the soul and body strength of the child. On the other hand, the Tier 5 potion costing 10GP would increase the bloodline purity, but there was a chance that Alice's bloodline might overpower mine. For the system to reward me, my bloodline should always command top orders, as it wouldn't be considered passing on my bloodline if it got sidetracked.

I considered cutting down on some expenses to save up for the Tier 5 potion, which cost 15GP. Saving that much would take around one more year, and then I could try to impregnate Alice by the end of the year, giving me enough time.

A year had passed, and Alice had been impregnated around two months ago. I had already saved enough to buy the potion. Tonight, I was going to give Alice the potion and see if it had any adverse effects. I had called for healing mages and doctors to be on standby without informing them about the potion, as my father and mother would probably kill me if they knew.

As midnight approached, I entered the room, and Alice was waiting for me, sitting on the bed. I had already told her that I would give her something special that night. I sat beside her and said, "Alice, you know I love you." She replied, "Yes."

"I have something for you, and it may have very good effects on our child. It can strengthen its bloodline and lay a strong foundation, but you may have to go through some pain during childbirth. I'm asking for your permission. Do you want to take the potion? If yes, then I will give it to you, but if not, I don't want to risk your life," I explained.

Alice stayed silent for some time and then said, "I will do anything that will help our child on their journey to become strong, and I know you love me and our child very much, as much as I love you."

Hearing her answer, a smile formed on my face. I quickly purchased the potion and handed it to Alice. She was mesmerized by its beauty as it contained a mystical golden-red liquid in a beautiful glass bottle. She admired it for a bit and then drank it in one gulp. After that, I asked her to lie down, and I had the doctors waiting outside my room in case anything happened. But the night passed without any adverse effects, which was a great relief and a bit confusing.

I asked the system, "You said there might be a chance of some adverse effects appearing, but there are no signs of it."

The system replied, "I said there may be a chance of adverse effects, but maybe due to her bloodline or due to the blessing of a bloodline, no such effects happened. I think you will get a pleasant surprise after the birth of your child, but I can't provide any information until then."

After hearing the system's reply, I was pretty sure that the potion had done its effect, and I might have stumbled upon something very good. I was excited about it, but the system remained mysterious. For now, I continued to take care of Alice and kept the healers and doctors on standby, though their presence reduced over the next month as no complications were found. Now, it was nearing the time when Alice would give birth to my child.
