Chapter 14 - Troubled confessions

Luna's Point of View

I entered our classroom gasping for breath to get my bag because it was time to change sections as our next subject was chemistry. As I sat in my proper seat, Bryan, who was smiling, was sitting next to me.

"What the fuck?" I exclaimed angrily as he suddenly held my hand.

He just rolled his eyes. You really enjoy irritating me, Bryan, don't you? Sometimes, you ruin my day.

"Have you read it?"

I frowned. I tapped my forehead as I remembered the novel I bought for Bryan. I read it and finished it. It's a beautiful story. It's funny, and I can somewhat relate because it's like I'm the protagonist.

"Yep. It's good, 10/10." I gave a thumbs up. I saw him bow down and smile. You're really weird, Bryan.

"So, did you read my confession?" he asked.

W-what?!!

"Confession?" I took his book from my bag and searched behind it for the confession he mentioned. I noticed the 'Author's Note.' There was an italicized sentence here.

You mean the world to me.

I raised an eyebrow. "What's this?"

"Duh. Confession. Love confession," he replied sarcastically.

"For me?"

"Yes. We've been best friends for 8 years. It's impossible for me not to fall for you, you know. You're so beautiful."

Damn it. Why is this guy so straightforward?

"I'm just vulnerable, Bryan. Stop teasing me." I put the book back in my bag and adjusted my posture.

"Oh, come on. How about I kiss you to make you believe me?" he said with a smile.

I smirked, "Sure!" I closed my eyes.

I felt his large hands caress my cheek. I felt him brush my hair slightly to the side of my face.

"Hey!" We both turned at the same time.

"What are you doing?" Jude approached us.

"Oh, nothing. I just had a challenge for her. You know, best friend stuff," Bryan replied.

"Pft! Like I would really do that to you, Luna?" Jude said with a laugh.

Yeah, Bryan never showed any weird signals to me. He has never shown any signs that he likes me. His confession wasn't convincing. Maybe he was just teasing.

Jude gave us a disdainful look and went back to his seat. Bryan also left my side as our subject teacher arrived.

The whole day went by without Jude paying any attention to me. There were moments when I sat next to him, but he didn't talk to me. Huh. Is he sulking?

Our last subject ended early. Should I try talking to Jude? Is he angry because of what Bryan did to me earlier?

I jumped when Bryan suddenly tapped me on the shoulder.

"I'm leaving. I'll bring volume 2 of the story you have today," he said. What the fuck? There's a volume 2? Oh well. The story is good. No wonder he's so popular on Wattpad.

I approached Jude, who was arranging his things.

"Jude, are you mad at me? I mean, at me and Bryan, actually," I said.

He shook his head. It seems like he's fine.

"Look, Luna. I risked my own feelings because I don't want our friendship to be ruined and for you to be taken away from me. It just hurts to see you being treated that way by others."

"Sorry. That's just how Bryan and I are. It seems like you only noticed it now. I'm used to him acting like that. I smiled.

"Sorry, Luna, but if that's the case, I'd better court you." He said seriously.

Court me? It seems like I'm the one feeling embarrassed because I don't have anything to offer to him. Also, there's someone else. What if Sky is really courting me? He tried to serenade me earlier, but I overreacted and didn't let him.

"Wait, Jude. You're rushing into decisions."

"And what? Let Sky court you and beat me to it?" he said in annoyance.

"What do you think of me? A toy? Should you compete to win me?" I angrily grabbed my bag and quickly left the classroom. I heard him calling me as I ran. I ran as fast as I could.

I stumbled and bumped into someone. I saw that the person also fell down.

It was Sky. Of course.

"Why are you running?" He held me by the arm.

I struggled. "Let go of me. Just leave me alone if you can."

"Leave you alone?"

"Luna, wait!" He called out to me, gasping for breath.

"You again?!" I heard Sky say.

"Trying to steal the show, huh? Both of us are courting you, Luna. Who will you choose?" Jude asked.

"Don't you dare!" I shouted.

"Well, it serves you right," Jude said as he approached Porsche.

Try me, Jude. You haven't experienced my revenge yet. Whatever my fault is to you, it will come out once Luna finds out about this.

"What did I do to you?" I said.

"Don't you know? Ha! Because you're such an insensitive jerk." He hit me hard in frustration.

I hit him back in anger.

"If you didn't want me to be the center of attention, I would have been the most talented musician on campus. I would have been recognized by everyone, and I would have been Luna's only tutor. I'm better than you, remember that!" he said.

"Right. You're the best," I nodded. So that's it. He wanted fame. I didn't intend to take something that wasn't really mine in the first place.

"That's why you left our band, Jude."

"I wish you had told me earlier so I could have done something about it," I added.

He didn't say anything since then. I left him speechless. I couldn't understand why I had to go through all this. Now that I finally have a friend whom I love, she might be taken away from me.

Luna brought happiness to my sad life. She opened my eyes to things. Because of her, I had a reason to go to school every day and study hard to fulfill our mother's dream for me to become an engineer. Luna saved me from drowning in my past.

Let's see whom she will choose.

I glanced at my phone to check if Luna had replied to my messages. It seems like she hasn't seen them yet. I wondered if she was avoiding me. I sighed in relief when I found out from her that she hadn't read my messages yet.

I won't allow you to go to Jude, Luna.

I'm not sure if you'll choose me, but I'll fight fair and square without cheating.
