Chapter 45 - rebellion (part 4)

Merkare was with a troubled mind; he didn't know what to do now. If this information turned out to be true, everything that had happened so far would make no sense. The friends he had lost, the enemies he had killed – so many senseless deaths.

Now that he realized he wouldn't be able to end this war, he decided to return to his family, who must be worried about him. His armor scanned and located Merkare's house, prompting him to accelerate at his maximum speed to find his family quickly.

Persenet was devastated; her worst fear had come true a few days ago. She received the news that her husband, who had gone to war, had died. She couldn't even see his body to bid him farewell one last time.

She hadn't told her daughter about this yet; although she was 16 years old, she would always be a child to her.

The day went on as usual; her daughter came home, and she didn't mention anything about it.

During the night, a strange figure entered the house without alerting anyone.

Merkare still didn't know how to talk to his wife about what had happened; his only hope was that she knew what that scarab was.

Merkare stood by the bed; his wife seemed very weakened, her body slimmer, dark circles under her eyes, and even a few strands of white hair were emerging on her head.

As he looked at his wife, she began to struggle, having a nightmare. "No, don't go, my dear" "Merkare" "Merkare."

She murmured his name as tears started to well up in her eyes.

Merkare couldn't bear to see this any longer; he held her hands to try to calm her. Her body seemed to recognize his touch, as she began to calm down. A few minutes later, she opened her eyes and saw Merkare, his helmet removed, revealing his face.

Persenet raised her trembling hands to touch her husband's face. Realizing that it was real, she hugged him, hoping this dream would never end.

After a few minutes of silence, he said, "Darling, you don't need to worry; I'll never leave your side again."

Persenet was incredulous; her husband, who had gone to war and been declared dead, had returned and was in front of her again.

"Your gift protected me in the nick of time, saving me from death," Merkare pointed to his neck for his wife to understand.

Persenet didn't understand what he meant by that, but seeing him point to his neck reminded her of the scarab she had turned into a necklace.

The stories her ancestors told, along with what her husband was saying, were enough for her to piece together the puzzle and finally understand what he was talking about.

He wanted to know about the scarab, and she wanted to know how he managed to use it. But both knew that at that moment, the only thing that mattered was being together.

The next morning, Merkare appeared and reunited with his daughter, whom he had been separated from for almost a year.

His daughter reacted with great excitement; unlike her mother, she still hoped he would return.

Merkare had found a way to retract all his armor and return to a normal state, although he could put it on again at any moment, within seconds.

During breakfast, he and his wife warned their daughter not to tell anyone that her father had returned, as if anyone found out, he would be forced to leave again.

When their daughter left, he and his wife were alone again, and the moment had arrived.

"So, dear, where did you get that scarab?" Merkare was calm; after the previous night, he had mentally recovered. He would never recover completely, but he was in the best condition he could be.

Persenet never wanted to unearth her family's story, but she knew she would have to talk about it; there was no other way. So, she ended up telling everything about her past and the treasures that remained from her family.

Merkare didn't know what to say; he had already realized that his wife had a strange past, but he never expected this.

However, with the recent events, he dealt with it quite well. So, he decided to tell his wife about what had happened on the battlefield, how he survived thanks to the scarab's powers, and his subsequent encounter with the kings of Wairdors, as well as the things they showed him.

The fact that his enemies came from the sky was one of the many hypotheses of his ancient family, but it still surprised her.

"So, what do you plan to do?" She knew her husband was a good man; he probably wouldn't stay idle after learning this, especially with the power to help.

"I plan to remove the Lunmins from power; we need to gather people and show them the truth," Merkare spoke with conviction.

The Lunmins were the group formed by the five Thanagarians who ruled Lower Egypt.

In the end, that's what Merkare and Persenet did; together, they formed a great rebellion that spread throughout the kingdom of Lower Egypt. Over the years, more and more people joined.

However, on one of the many missions of the rebellion, they discovered that the Lunmins had a weapon on their ship that could wipe out half of the continent. So, they had to wait for the right moment to act.
