"Fuck it!" Damien hissed under his breath as soon he saw the rogues approaching them.
Kira had not seen them coming at her which was why he had pushed her out of the way but in that process he got scratched and his injury was way worse than he thought. His shirt was all torn up and the bleeding from his arm seemed like it wasn't stopping anytime soon.
Kira's eyes shifted to Damien's arms and she panicked. "Oh my goodness, you are bleeding." She cried out and hurriedly checked out the cut on his arms but he slapped her hands away.
"It's all thanks to you anyways so there's no need to act like you actually care." He said nonchalantly.
Although Kira wasn't expecting such a reply, she ignored him anyway and quickly handed him her handkerchief to clean up his bleeding arm.
He chuckled. "You seem to be forgetting we heal quite fast. There's absolutely no need to get all worked up." He replies to her in a low tone, his eyes still fixated on the wolves watching them and waiting to attack. He still wondered why they were simply watching instead of just attacking.
"Just use it! I doubt yours is healing anytime soon." She hissed, her voice coming out low but he had definitely heard her.
Damien looked at his arms and true to her words, it wasn't looking too good but he knew it wouldn't stop him from attacking and killing the rogues.
"Just ignore it. Stay close to me so you don't get hurt because I won't be able to help you if they come at you." He said.
Kira rolled her eyes at him. She hated the fact that he spoke to her like she wasn't able to defend herself. "Don't play with me kid." She hissed with an eye roll before moving to undress herself.
"What are you doing? They're watching you!" Damien hissed in a low tone, wondering why she'd undress herself knowing fully well she was being watched.
Kira ignores him and pulls off her oversized t-shirt and her shorts.
"They're ready to attack you fool! Stop talking and change already." She hissed at him before switching immediately.
Unlike many regular wolves, her wolf had pure white fur and she wasn't just any type of wolf but an Eurasia, also known as the Kazakhstan with pure white fur that sometimes looked like it had a thick grey on it.
Damien had not changed to his wolf form yet but mere looking at her form, he could tell Kira was a very powerful wolf. As for Kira, she couldn't bring herself to be bothered by his sluggishness and instead of waiting on him, she moves to attack and when the rogues notice she was coming at them, two of them rush towards her and try to hit her from both sides but Kira is quick to move out of their way and before Damien could understand what was happening, she had brutally murdered both wolves.
"What the!" He muttered in shock. To his surprise, more rogues appeared out of the forest and he could not believe his eyes.
He groaned in pain as he felt a sharp pain in his arm and his injury seemed to only get worse. He couldn't help but wonder why in the world this particular injury wasn't even getting a little bit better.
He didn't want Kira to handle them all by herself so, he shifted into his wolf form, a huge, grey wolf with black tints on its fur and proceeded to join her.
The more they killed their attackers, the larger in number did they become and it was getting more dangerous as nighttime had fallen.
He wondered where they were at the moment as they had completely left the Silvermoon territory. His injury slowly started to weaken him and the minute he lost his focus and allowed his pain to take over him, he was immediately attacked from behind and pushed to the ground.
He had fallen so hard that when his back hit the tree, he immediately changed back to his human form.
Kira notices Damien lying on the floor looking weak and bleeding profusely. She sights three rogues moving towards him dangerously and she immediately jumped over the three of them, fighting all of them to save him and just in time, she was able to kill one of them and push the other two away from him.
Damien couldn't see clearly anymore but he could tell Kira had come to his rescue. Slowly, his eyes began to close on their own and the next thing he knew, he blacked out.
*****
Damien's eyes flustered open slowly and he was finally conscious, everything in front of him was absolutely dark and he could see the small fire in front of him.
He groaned in pain as he got up. His bruised arm had still not healed but a white piece of clothing had been carefully wrapped around his arm.
He looked down at himself and realized that he was fully clothed and when he looked around, he spotted Kira sitting with her hands around her shoulder and her head resting on her knees. She was fast asleep.
The last thing to remember was Kira coming to his rescue before he had passed out from exhaustion.
As much as Damien wanted to deny it, he couldn't help but feel grateful towards Kira. He had not expected her to do what she did for him and thought maybe, just maybe she really has no ulterior motives after all but then again, he definitely couldn't be in his right mind at the moment so he blamed his weak mind for thinking so foolishly.
He already guessed she got him all dressed up in his clothes, or at least what was left of it and he couldn't help but the embarrassment he felt as the thought of Kira seeing his nakedness made him slightly uncomfortable.
He stared at her and noticed how she was sleeping peacefully and calmly. He had to give it to her, she definitely wasn't like any other shewolf. She was quite dope and she proved it to him.
His mind drifted back to the rogue wolves and he wondered why they had attacked them. It almost felt as if the attack was planned and it felt so unreal and at a point slow.
There was definitely a lot happening around him that he wasn't aware of and coming out here had definitely been an eye opener for him.
He believed now that Redmoon pack were definitely not behind the death of his men cause seeing how he was attacked, they're definitely other things out there that are after his people.
Kira yawned as she raised her head up and stretched her hand above her head. She was feeling very exhausted and she had to literally drag Damien with her and find a safe spot after she was able to get the rogues off their backs.
She also had to stay up to watch him and for a while, she was extremely worried as his injury wasn't healing as fast as it should.
Damien quickly looked away when he realised she was waking up. He didn't want her to think he had been watching her sleep or something.
"You are awake!" Kira exclaimed, stating the obvious.
"How is your arm feeling?" She asked.
Damien cleared his throat, "It's fine, I guess." He said with an attitude that didn't go unnoticed by Kira.
"Cocky as always I see." she muttered boredly.
Damien wanted to tell her just how grateful he was but his pride wouldn't let him so he decided to change the topic instead.
"It seems you were right after all. I'm guessing your pack really isn't behind the death of my men." He said.
Kira scoffed. "Guessing? Are you serious?" She raised her brows in a questioning manner.
"My people aren't involved in any way. I hope this shows you just how terribly your negligence will cost a lot of people around you. There is so much you and I do not know about and that is why I have decided to put my personal interests aside and try to make all of this work." Kira replied to him with a serious tone.
"Kira, what exactly is it that you are trying to tell me? What is it that is happening that you have knowledge of that I do not?" Damien asked with a stern expression on his face.
"They are here Damien." She said confusing Damien.
"They're here? Who is?" He asked her.
They were both staring at each other intensely with curiosity laced in Damien's eyes and nervousness in Kira's and none of them made any attempt to look away. As much as Damien would love to shrug her off, what he had faced earlier showed she knew things he didn't know and he hated being in the dark.
"The creatures cursed by the sun." She tells him, he frowns.
"Creatures cursed by the sun? What is it about? Who are they? What is it you know that I do not know?" He asked.
"I don't know who they are or where they come from but all I know is, they will be the end of us werewolves. They were cursed by the sun as we were cursed by the moon." She explained.
Damine chuckled, "We were cursed by the moon? Are you serious?" He asked in disbelief.
"The moon goddess blessed us Kira, so where in the world did such thoughts come from?" He inquired.
"Indeed, every full moon we get stronger but then it's a curse as we are bound to lose control at the end. We become so strong that we let ourselves go and let our strength get in our heads." She said confusing Damien.
"What exactly are you talking about? What is this all about?" He asked.
As much as he was finding it hard to comprehend anything, he still wanted to understand her.
For decades the war between his pack and her pack had gone on and suddenly she was willing to let go of that hate and be with him. Didn't seem too normal.
"We werewolves will cease to exist if we do not become one to fight the creatures cursed by the sun." She explained.
"Cease to exist? Where do you get that from?" He asked.
Kira sighed. He was constantly asking the same question over and over again and she was getting tired of answering him.
"The Creatures cursed by the sun will come and they will be the cause of our extinction which is why I believe your men were killed by them cause they're here already."
"They are allegedly known as the night crawlers, anything other than that I do not know. I do not know how they look or what they do or what their powers are." She explains.
Damine kept quiet for a while processing all her words. "How do you know all of this?" He asked.
"Have you heard of the spiritual mother?" She asked.
He chuckled, "I'll give it to you." He clapped. "You are well informed and sure do know a lot of things." He said, finding her absurd knowledge hilarious.
"It's not funny, you know." She reprimanded.
"Okay, okay, sorry and carry on." He chuckled.
She continued, "The spiritual mother is also known as a path seeker or a seer. They see what is to come and give you answers to your burning questions."
"And you have met this so-called spiritual mother?" He asked and she nodded her head in confirmation.
"Is that why you accepted so easily? I mean that night we found out, we were both so against it but then you came to me and suddenly, you seemed cool with it, is that why?" He asked.
"Well, I refuse to just sit back and watch our kind cease to exist when I can actually do something to at least prevent such tragedy." She responded in a dead serious tone.
"Have you ever thought of this? Have you ever thought of why the moon goddess had to pair us both knowing we hated each other? I rejected but then after finding the answers to my questions, I realized we have a purpose and we cannot sit by and do nothing because of our past."
"Also the story passed down to us as the reason for our Pack's rivalry is actually manipulated. I do not have the real information yet but I know it is not the complete truth and I also know we both have a role in countering the creatures cursed by the sun." She explained.
Damien laughed hysterically. For a second he thought she was exaggerating it but with the serious look on her face, he knew she wasn't but he couldn't help but laugh.
He has always been told to expect a very tough challenge but he wasn't expecting to have to cross that bridge with her beside him. There was no way he'd accept her as his mate; not when he had Sheila in his life.
"It's really not funny you know. We always fight against one another because of our greed for power and dominance and it's ruining us all! This is why it would be easy for the creatures cursed by the sun to completely end us. I sense they are here and they've started to take us down by even making us suspect each other." She tells him, raising her voice slightly.
Damien sighed. "If really all you are saying is true, I have no problem creating a pact with you but where the issue lies is that, I cannot accept you as my mate because I love someone else." He said truthfully.
