Kira paced around her new room restlessly as she did not know what to do next or how to even go about anything.
She had successfully gotten Damien to agree with her plan although it took everything from her not to punch him straight in the face for the many times he had disagreed and called her crazy for trying to make him see reason. Fortunately for her, Draco had pulled him aside and she assumed he was able to talk some sense into him since he came back and eventually agreed to her idea but not before giving her a million and one reasons why he still believed the idea made no sense.
Kira knew she still could not trust them and that anything could happen at any time but she also did not wish to think the absolute worst of them just yet. Who knows, maybe they can finally prove her wrong and show they're not the sneaky bastards everyone thinks they are.
"Miss?" A voice called out to her from the door and although Kira had no idea who it could be, she pulled open the door to check who it was and she was met with a brunette girl who seemed like she'd be around the same age as she is or even older.
"I'm sorry but who are you and how can I help you?" Kira asked nervously as she hoped it wasn't who she was thinking. One thing she definitely wished to avoid while here is meeting Damien's supposed lover. She had found it difficult to control Kiana's anger earlier when Damien spoke about her but she couldn't be too sure how her wolf would react meeting her replacement.
"You don't need to look so nervous and uncomfortable. Let me introduce myself properly. Hi, I'm Marianne and I'll be in charge of assisting you during your stay here at our pack. It's a pleasure to meet you." Marianne replied with a small smile on her lips.
"You're my assistant? I have an assistant? But I never asked for one though." Kira pointed out, wondering why Damien would even bother getting her an assistant. Could he be up to something? She wondered as she could not help but think the worst once a while.
"Beta Draco had asked that I guide you around the place because he doesn't want you to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome." Marianne tells her and Kira sighs. Draco had to be the nicest Silvermoon member she had ever met.
"Oh, so... What am I supposed to say to you now? You'll have to forgive me but the truth is, I'm not exactly the friendliest person you'd ever meet and trust me, if you feel uncomfortable with the role of being my assistant, you can just forget about it. I highly doubt you'd be comfortable assisting someone you're supposed to hate." Kira blurted out, not knowing exactly what to say to her since she has never been the best at meeting new people and relating with them properly.
"You don't have to be wary of me though, Alpha Kira because believe it or not, I have nothing against your pack. I know what I'm about to say may sound absurd to you but the truth is, I'm not fully a member of the Silvermoon pack." Marianne says calmly, hoping she'd be able to help the Alpha stay calm. Draco had actually suspected that Alpha Kira would be uncomfortable and on high alert which is why he had sent her in particular even though being an assistant to anyone was far from her job.
"What do you mean by that? Are your parents from two different packs?" Kira asked curiously.
"Yeah, they are actually. My dad is from here and my mom belongs to a smaller pack that's pretty far off from here. Truth is, I wasn't very accepted when I first moved here with my dad because my mom's pack isn't a close associate and they are considered outcasts." She explained and Kira is even more curious.
"What pack is that?" Kira asked.
"Ever heard of the crystal moon pack?" Marianne asked and Kira frowned.
"No offense but aren't they old news? I heard most of them went extinct." Kira said, not liking the fact that she has to be reminded of those horrible people.
"No offense taken Alpha Kira and yes, they are old news but they were a good number of survivors and those survivors came together and formed a smaller pack where they live in hiding and they also avoid interacting with other packs." She explained and Kira found that quite believable and understandable.
If she were in their shoes, she would avoid other packs as well cause their pack did not leave a very good reputation behind. According to history, the Crystal Moon pack was one of the most, if not, the most greedy and untrustworthy packs to ever exist. They bullied, killed and stole anything and everything and the whole world of werewolves made sure to avoid them like plagues.
"Marianne, can we sit already? I just realized I've been up on my feet for way to long and it's starting to really ache." Kira said, moving towards her bed and falling into it tiredly.
"Are you sure though?" Marianne asked nervously as she has never actually been invited to sit on the same spot with an alpha.
"Of course! I can't have you standing while you're talking to me and keeping me company. Trust me, I'm not that stiff." Kira assured, wondering why it was even that big a deal.
"Uhm, okay then." Marianne replied before carefully sitting at the edge of the bed and Kira mentally laughed at how dramatic she was being.
"So yeah, if I'm correct, what you're saying is that your mom belongs to that pack, the mini Crystal Moon pack and that is why people over here found it quite difficult to accept you?" Kira asked.
"Yes, that is exactly it. At first, I didn't understand why they all kept giving me the stink eye, keeping their kids away from me, isolating me during festive seasons, treating my dad like dirt and you know, so many other things that would definitely make you feel worthless but then, one day, my dad explained everything to me and that was when I finally understood the reason for their disdain although, I still don't think I deserved to have my childhood ruined." Marianne replied, recalling how difficult and miserable she was while growing up.
Kira immediately felt bad for Marianne and although she could understand the reason she had to go through that, she still wished they had not traumatized a poor kid who wasn't even aware of anything. Suddenly, it made her want to end the feud between her pack and the Silvermoon pack as soon as possible because it dawned on her that growing up with inherited hate really doesn't do any good.
Kira grew up not experiencing any war other than the words she heard of her pack members getting killed. Her aunt Layla told her war happened a lot before she was born and the last war that took place was the day she was born and they were victorious.
Listening to stories about war and how her kind killed one another was starting to irritate her. They were one and were supposed to protect their kind but hey they were divided and hatred filled the minds of everyone for another.
Asides the pack wolves, there were also rogue ninjas who lurked around looking for people and wolves to kill.
"I agree with you though but you know how unreasonable the world is, they don't really care as long as it isn't their child or any of their loved ones. Sorry you had to go through all of that as a child but if you don't mind me asking, how did you get out of that phase? I mean, looking at you, you don't seem like someone that's getting looked down on." Kira said.
"Well, it wasn't easy getting over the stereotype but I was finally able to break free after Beta Draco and I met. He helped me regain my confidence and eventually, I ended up earning the respect of everyone. Now, nobody dares tell me to my face that I don't belong here cause they're all scared of me." She told Kira confidently and Kira giggled.
"Draco helped you and hold on, they're scared of you? What are you? Some kind of fighter or do you have a high rank over here?" Kira questioned, enjoying every second of their conversation.
"Well, I am actually not an assistant but a guard. A personal one at that and yes, Beta Draco did help me. He met me one day while I was training and he kinda teased me about how terrible I was at fighting and I don't know, from that point, we just started to get along more and he eventually became my personal trainer. He got people to stop bullying me, he helped get into the Pack's training camp and I became the she wolf that dominated the male wolves so eventually, people started to respect me even more and I got appointed as a high ranking guard." Marianne explained and Kira immediately threw a knowing look.
"Do you like Draco?" She teased and Marianne chuckled.
"Nah, he and I are more like best friends. He already has a mate." Marianne replied and Kira could immediately sense her disappointment.
"Oof, that's terrible though but it's quite obvious that you like him. Did you two ever have anything going on?Pardon me though if I'm being too pushy with my questions. I'm just naturally a very curious person." Kira said and Marianne chuckled.
"You have no idea how happy I am that you're even talking to me and asking me about my personal life. When Draco first sent me here, I actually refused cause I thought you'd be stuck up and proud but now I know he was right about you. You really are easy to get along with." Marianne complimented and Kira blushed.
"Thank you and once again I'm sorry that you have to be responsible for assisting me. Whoever it is you were guarding must have been so upset." Kira said and Marianne could not help but roll her eyes.
"Believe me when I say, I could honestly care less whether or not she's upset or not." She hissed and Kira furrowed her brows in confusion.
"You don't like your boss?" She asked.
"To be honest, I don't like her one bit. The thing is, I'm assigned to guarding the Pack's Luna but unfortunately, we do not have an official Luna yet but then since Alpha Damien already has a woman and she's supposedly going to be the next Luna, he assigned me to guard her but I'd be lying if I said I liked the idea one bit." Marianne blurted out in a hurry before it actually dawned on her that she shouldn't have mentioned anything about the Alpha's woman to his actual mate.
Kira smiled when she noticed Marianne's expression. If she was being honest with herself, hearing about the other woman actually made her feel weird on the inside but she knew for a fact that those weren't her feelings, they were Kiana's.
"Why don't you like her though?" She asked quickly, wearing a blank expression on her face.
"I'm sorry Alpha Kira but I shouldn't have mentioned her. I'm actually not allowed to speak of her to you." Marianne replied apologetically and Kira sighed.
"Is she so special that they forbade you to even mention her? Why is everyone over here so dramatic about the littlest things?" She wondered with an eye roll and Marianne chuckled.
"It's actually so you don't feel bad. Beta Draco's instructions." Marianne tells her.
"Okay then, whatever! Is there any other thing that I'm forbidden from actually doing?" She hissed.
"I apologize once again, but there are quite a few." Marianne tells Kira and gets blood boiled. The actual disrespect to actually treat her like a privileged prisoner.
"Go ahead and tell me then. What am I dos and don'ts?" Kira drawled.
"Well, according to Alpha Damien, you are not allowed anywhere near his court except invited. You are not allowed anywhere near his bedroom, you're not allowed to meet the Alpha's woman, you cannot go around the pack without his permission and lastly, your every move must be reported back to him just in case you're actually up to no good. His words, not mine." Marianne explained and Kira's frustration intensified.
"I suppose I'm not even the least bit trustworthy then." She scoffed in anger and Marianne sighed.
"I'm not supposed to say this but, I think Alpha Damien is only trying to protect you. I know he appears very harsh but he's actually really nice and considerate. He doesn't want you walking about cause at the end of the day, our people hate your people and you could get attacked by the hotheads. About miss Sheila, his woman, he's protecting both her and in a way you as well. Miss Sheila can be a little direct sometimes and he knows any kind of confrontation won't end well."
"In regards to whether or not he trusts you, permit me to say this but, just like he doesn't trust you, you don't trust him either and that is why you reacted that way towards me earlier and as for his bedroom, I think you know why it's a no go area." Marianne explained and Kira sighed. Everything Marianne said made absolute sense and she hated the fact that Kiana's emotions were actually bothering her.
"Okay fine, I'll accept my dos and don'ts but he better not come near my room as well cause I wonder who told him I had any intentions of going over to wherever the fuck his room is. Anyways, Marianne, it's been really great chatting with you but I feel kinda sleepy now and I'm pretty sure you have other things to do." Kira said, yawning.
"I'll excuse you now Alpha Kira." She replied.
"Can you just call me Kira? I have a feeling we're gonna be great friends and I'm not comfortable that someone my age who's also my friend is calling my name with so much seriousness." Kira said to her and Marianne simply smiled although she did not plan on complying to her request.
"Let me know if you need anything. My room is only four doors away from yours so if there's anything you're in need of, just let me know." Marianne said and Kira nodded before watching Marianne walk out of the room.
Sighing, she pulled the sheet over her head and shut her eyes to think. It hasn't even been a day yet and she already felt this exhausted.
"This is gonna be a very long and exhausting holiday for me." She muttered to herself before she slowly started to drift off to sleep.
