Chapter 2 - Mysterious book

I was finally home in my apartment, the TV was on while I prepared a cup of coffee for myself before settling down on the sofa. My eyes were already swollen from the countless tears, and I felt pain all over my body from my fight with Li Xiu. Of course, I'm not a lady who keeps cool when betrayed. I can't help but think about the fight I had with Li Xiu at the wedding venue.

Since we've been friends, we hardly fight, and even if we did, it's just minor fights which we end quickly. But this fight, I don't think it's one that could end. Everyone who tried separating us ended up getting beaten too. We both fought like cats and rats until we were satisfied and finally took my leave, leaving the ugly bride and her useless groom at the venue.

Ring! My phone buzzed to signify my brother, Yang Muyang, calling.

"What the hell did I just watch, sister? You had a fight with your best friend at her wedding. I'm watching you both displaying your madness LIVE on the TV," Muyang said over the phone, laughing hysterically.

"Hey! Watch the way you talk to me, okay? I'm your elder sister," I said in an angry tone, in which he understood how angry I was and stopped at once.

"Are you okay, sister?" He asked, and that felt like my caring little brother. Although we both fight a lot, we still care about each other sincerely.

"I'm not. I feel so lonely, I feel betrayed," I said with tears rolling down my cheek.

"I understand that it hurts, sister. I'm going to break that Zhang Han bone if I ever come across him. Stop wasting your tears on that good-for-nothing bastard," he said over the phone, and I heaved a sigh of relief. All I wanted was for someone to tell me that everything was fine, someone to comfort me, and he did.

"I should have listened to you, Muyang. Only if I really did, I wouldn't have to go through all this," I said with my eyes filled with sadness and tears.

"It's okay, sister. Now you know the kind of person he is. I just want you to be okay for me and mom. We can't handle it if anything happens to you now. We both love you so much," he said with the calmest tone ever.

"I love you both too. Thank you, Muyang. You're the best brother," I said with a smile, but anyone who saw me at that time would know that it was just a fake smile and I was deeply hurt inside.

"But I never knew you could fight like that, sister. You're really good, I must say. Well done! Fighting goddess," he said, and that word woke the anger in me.

"I can't believe I was just praising this fool over the phone just now, like what the hell? Get the hell outta my phone, you asshole!" I yelled before ending the call.

Ring!

"I'm gonna kill you, Muyang," I yelled, but stopped as I realized from the name shown on my phone screen, it's my boss, Mr. Wang, calling.

"Ms. Yang, what the hell did you do today? How dare you fight outside? And as if that wasn't enough, you had a fight with the CEO and disrupted his wedding," Mr. Wang yelled over the phone.

Damn, I forgot I was dating the CEO of my company, and that's the useless Zhang Han, I thought, but was soon brought back to reality by Mr. Wang's angry voice over the phone.

"Are you even listening to me, Ms. Yang?" He asked angrily.

"Uh... I... uh..." I stuttered without knowing the exact word to say. "I'm here with you, sir. You were saying something," I managed to compose a sentence.

"You're fired!" The voice echoed in my ear. It's like I heard the wrong word, but before I could say anything, he ended the call.

"What? Did I just hear the word 'I'm fired'? Damn! I'm done for," I said as I dropped my phone on the table, now placing my hands on my head while I walked around in circles.

Why is all this happening to me? What have I done to deserve this, actually? I lost my boyfriend, best friend, and work today. Like, I don't seem to understand, I thought with no one to answer my questions. I can just get another job. It's not the end of the world anyway, I thought as I took a seat while I sipped my coffee.

"I'll sure gonna kill that Zhang Han, I swear down," I yelled and hit my leg against my center table, which felt painful.

The collision of my leg against the table made my bag fall on the floor, revealing the book. My eyes suddenly opened wide at the sight of the book, and I bent down to pick it, ignoring other stuff.

"I wonder what's so special about you that had that old man keep you till now," I hissed while turning the book back and forth, inspecting it.

"Read it, and you'll understand what I'm saying," the words the old man said repeated in my head, sending out a cold shiver down my spine as I made my way up the stairs and into my room.

I was soon settled on the bed and opened the first chapter of the book. Even though the book was old, the words written were still clear, and I started reading silently.

I finished reading the first chapter but paused at a word that seemed strange as it wasn't written in English or Mandarin. I decided to just murmur it in my head, which made me feel a slight headache, more like someone suffering from memory loss and struggling to regain it back.

The wind started blowing as if it was about to rain. I had no choice but to drop the book and hurriedly close my window. The rain could be so bad sometimes that forgetting to close the window could leave my bed and floor all wet. I settled on the bed once again with the book in my hand.

"I'll just read you tomorrow," I felt sleepy and tired, so I dropped the book in my bed drawer.
