When Dominic left to get logs, my mom turned to me.
"What do you think of Dominic?"
"What Do you mean what do I think?"
"Well I know you guys have always been close, but after he came back from hiding something seems different. You too seem to get along.. Differently." I can't believe she just said that to me.
"Ew mom, I am not talking to you about this." I folded my arms and turned around, eating some more rabbit.
"All I'm saying is you're very similar, and you two look good together."
I had always thought he looked good, but the two of us together? I'd never really thought of it. He's my best friend, he always will be. But my mom is right, this time it's different. We both had to learn to mature while he was gone. I was about to say something when he came walking up to us.
"I could only find three, but they're pretty big so we should be just fine."
"Okay cool, I'll help you set it up." I set down my rabbit and looked at my mom, she was smiling at me. I shook my head and started putting the logs together.
"I have to ask you something." He said, very seriously.
"Okay?" I was really nervous about what he was going to ask.
"Are you okay? With your dad and all?"
"Yeah, I'm good," I went blank. "I'll be good."
"Okay. If you ever need anything let me know, I've been through the whole parent thing, so I know some good tactics to get your mind off of it." I smiled at him, then shot my eyes down to the floor. We finished up the fort, and carried my mom into it carefully. I felt so bad she had to be the one to get shot. It was always her getting hurt.
