"Nick is perfectly fine. He was just taken aback when his ex-girlfriend showed up unexpectedly," Sarah replied firmly, her desire for Evelyn to depart growing stronger by the minute. All the other guests had already left; what was Evelyn still doing here?
"We all were," Evelyn replied with a nod, pretending to empathize. "But he did seem genuinely perplexed. It's curious, considering he's moved on and is so happy with Rachel," she added, taking the last sip of champagne from her glass.
