"Why would you ask that?" Nick questioned, his expression clouding with a frown. Diana was a topic he preferred to avoid.
"Just curious, I suppose," Rachel replied calmly, sensing the shift in Nick's mood.
Nick sighed, his guard visibly rising. He was about to speak when Rachel uttered something that caught him off guard.
"You still love her, don't you?"
"What are you talking about?" Nick scoffed, attempting to deflect the question.
"I saw the way you looked at her during the engagement party," Rachel continued, unrelenting.
"You mean with a look of anger and disgust," Nick retorted, his voice carefully controlled.
"At first, yes. But when Grandma Gabby hit her, I saw you flinch. Your mood changed. You were upset that Grandma Gabby hit her," Rachel asserted, her observations astute.
"Or I was upset that she ruined our engagement party," Nick responded tersely, his tone hinting at the rising anger within.
