"Rachel, what did you do?" Maria's voice rang out the moment her daughter stepped into the house. She had been anxiously awaiting Rachel's return ever since the stylist had called to report the unfortunate incident involving Mr. Hill's carefully chosen dress.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Mum," Rachel responded with a hint of indifference, continuing her stride towards her bedroom. She was halfway up the stairs when Maria's voice chased after her.
"Rachel, please, I understand you're upset, and you have every right to be," Maria reasoned, both of them now standing on the staircase.
"But Mrs. Hill had that dress custom-made for you. How do you think she'll feel when she finds out what happened?"
"I don't care," Rachel replied, her determination to disrupt this entire arrangement as she had with the dress evident in her tone.
"Oh, Ray," Maria said sympathetically, empathizing with her daughter's turmoil.
