Chapter 7 - Swordmaster Cain

Sam was seeping the garden of the inn, 'If I could use magic I would definitely blow a wind and collect all these leaves in one sweep. How cool it could have been. Haaa", he leaned on his broom and fantasized about everything that he could have been able to do if only he could use magic.

Sei had told him that he had no mana spirit and thus it will be difficult for him to use magic. In a moment every dream of Sam shattered. Since then he would imagine himself using magic to ease his work.

Unknown to him, a man came and stood behind him and said, "Is there any room free for one guest". Sam turned around and saw a man standing. His body was that of a giant, all buffed up and tall, covering his chest and legs was a silver armour and on his back was a broad sword. Seeing him, Sam got scared for a second.

Maintaining his composer, Sam came forward and greeted the man. "Yes, we have plenty of free rooms. Follow me". Sam took the man to the counter and pressed the bell and asked the man to wait. Claudia came from inside and greeted the man. "This guest wants a room for one person. Show him the best room ma'am", saying this Sam left to continue doing his chore.

The man laughed at Sam's talk and introduced himself as Cain. He was a swordmaster that came to the village on an official purpose. Taking his badge out to prove his identity, Cain asked Claudia to cooperate with anything he asks. After reserving himself a room and talking about the village with Claudia, Cain decided to rest and instructed Claudia to only wake him up at dinner.

--Night

Cain came downstairs and Saw people sitting in the dining room and having lunch. He greeted them and took a seat in the corner table. "Boy", Cain called out to Sam who was serving foods to other customers. Besides being an inn, the place also worked like a small hotel and people usually the villagers would come down here to eat.

Sam approached Cain with a menu card and handed it to him. Cain looked at the menu, "This, vegetable rice soup and this milk sweet". While his dish was being prepared, Cain shifted his chair closer to his neighbor and said, "This village is so peaceful. I guess there is no delinquent here".

The man laughed, "You are right. This place is very peaceful and lively", and talked about how there was zero crime. They talked until Sam brought in Cain's dishes and served it to him. "Heard you are a sword master", Sam asked Cain.

"Why do you ask boy. Interested in learning?, Cain asked this while picking up his spoon. "Yes, if you be kind enough to teach me", replied Sam with a smile. "Hoh, do what, you help me with something tomorrow and I will test if you have what it takes to be a swordman".

The next day Sam took Cain on a village tour and Cain would stop people and ask some questions. In the evening Cain asked Sam to gather in the garden and passed him a stick. "If you can land a strike on me I promise to teach you sword".

Sam tried his best but Cain was a swordmaster and all his attacks were either dodged or parried. "This is not fair, you are a pro and I don't know nothing", Sam complained.

"Okay, I want use my hands", Cain placed his hands behind him and Sam again tried but couldn't land a hit. "Hey, not bad kid", after even five minutes of swinging the stick, Sam couldn't land a hit on Cain.

"Phu, phu", his breathing was all ragged up and he had sweat running on his forehead but with determination he was able to touch the stick on Cain's right thigh.

Cain kept his promise and taught Sam the basics for the next few days. He had no hope but Sam did better than his expectation. Sam's form was excellent, thanks to him once serving in the military and with diligence he was able to learn the basics in few days.
