Chereads / The Rebirth Of Fire [BL] / Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

While the sun had finally risen above the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and violet. Roan had carefully thought about his next move and decided to search for something to eat. Wondering through the woods he found trees full of fruit and a huge lake. If he wanted to survive out here he would need to know how to hunt and protect himself. But lucky for him that part was easy as he lived a long life as a mercenary.

With his skills and knowledge, he quickly caught an armful of fish and began to fillet it to the best of his abilities with the sharp point of a broken-off branch. Once done he began to set up a pile of leaves and twigs under the fish that were on a stick. He then held up two rocks in his hands and began clicking them together to start a fire.

As Roan roughly rubbed the rocks against each other, sparks soon flew through the air. And a strong hot energy started to surge inside him and quickly a powerful fire erupted from within his palms. It disintegrated the rocks in his hands and completely burned the fish he had planned to cook. A yard of beautiful grass was completely scorched but he was unharmed.

The fire was destructive but as quickly as it came was as quickly as it vanished. It appeared that the fire he had just released was the same ability the original had awakened. Not the power of a Swordmaster but the power of an Elementalist. He could wield fire. Such a thing was so unheard of within the Rosemore bloodline that Roan would be the first to ever possess such capabilities.

It was clear that no matter what Roan did, it seemed that he would always be the oddball in his family.

'But oh well.' He thought simply. If he couldn't eat anything right now he'd just take a bath instead. Intuition told him that it was best to stay away from any fire right now until he fully understood it because the uncontrollable power was very dangerous.

He got up and walked to the edge of the lake where it was shallow with less currents and took a step into the cold water. His pale soft toes slowly submerged their way under, followed by delicate knees and fleshy thighs. Roan removed all his clothing and began to wash the clothes before starting his bath. Carefully he washed his silk dress shirt and then his pants and set them out to dry on a near rock. He then proceeded to finally bath himself, taking some leaves that produced natural soap he began to wash himself till he was thoroughly clean.

Time flew by quickly and soon he was done. Pushing his wet hair out of the way, he lifted his leg up and climbed out of the lake. Dripping with water his long hair clung to his skin covering all his important parts as he freely stood in the middle of the forest. Grabbing his clothes, he swiftly put them back on. But just when he had finished putting his shirt on a scream of agony was hard in the far distance.

Roan looked in the direction of the scream and frowned. Was someone in trouble?

*Ka-Boom!*

The ground rumbled and the trees shook. One after the other all the birds in the area flew away franticly in panic. Whatever it was it was dangerous.

Seeing this, Roan hesitated for a bit. Whatever was happening over there was none of his business, he didn't have to go. He could just walk away and pretend nothing was happening and finish the rest of his day in leisure. It's the choice he would've made in his past life, so why was it different now? Why did he feel the need to go check to see what happened?

Who cared if a few people were in trouble? What was going on had nothing to do with him. He tried convincing himself but another huge sound echoed throughout the forest.

*Boom!*

Unlike before this explosion was closer to him than the first time. And that's all it took for Roan to make up his mind to go check out what was happening.

With one big jump, he reached the other side of the lake and quickly dashed forward into the deepest part of the forest. Passing by rows and rows of bushes and tall trees until he neared the sounds of metal clashing against one another. He slowed down his pace and quickly hid behind a wide tree. His gaze caught a pair of men fighting off a group of several other men in black. One man of the pair looked tired from fighting as he wielded his own shadow as a weapon to protect his comrade while he stood in front as a shield.

And the other was surprisingly calm as he severed the head of an incoming enemy on his left. He looked at his enemies with eyes the color of a thundering cloud. His gaze is cold and relaxed as if he was taking a stroll in the park. While his sword blatantly dripped with the blood of his opponents, who faltered in fear and confusion. Short silver hair swayed with his sharp movements that were both vengeful and unrelenting. As Roan observed from a distance he was deeply impressed with this man who bared the aura of an immortal dragon.

But however strong they may have been, they were still deeply outnumbered from 2 to 12. And from the looks of it, neither one was capable of getting out alive or unharmed. It was obvious they needed help so Roan chose to be the one that would help them.

While everyone was distracted he ran up to one of the men near his hiding spot and jumped over their shoulders, wrapping his legs around their neck he swiftly cut off their air supply. Not intending to give the enemy a chance to retaliate, he quickly but brutally snapped their neck.

*Crack*

The dead man slowly dropped to his knees and fell forward to the ground. Stealing a pair of daggers from the enemy, Roan swiftly moved on to his next target and ruthlessly sliced the neck of another man in black. He was sure that there would soon be a bloodbath and he had no problem with that. Being a mercenary in his past life had prepared him to enter a battle at any given time.

What he was doing now was no different from the actions he did in his past. It was nothing but mere muscle memory to him now.
