Roan's actions didn't go unnoticed and it wasn't long before the others started to take notice.
"Who is it?!" One of the assassins yelled anxiously. "Who's out there?! Quickly show yourself!"
There seemed to be a pest trying to hinder their plans. He snuck needles between his fingers and beckoned for his subordinates to tightly surround their target and prepare for the intruder.
Who in the hell was trying to be a hero?
An eerie silence filled the air. And all everyone could do was be on guard and wait in silence as it was obvious that they were no longer alone.
The silver-haired man could tell that someone was there. His powers allowed him to sense a life form beyond the group of people that were present. The territory was unknown so the intruder could be a beast as most beasts were territorial. But the man knew that as much as it was an option, that wasn't the case. There was a human out there, an Esper in particular, and they were very powerful. But that wasn't what troubled him.
What bothered him was the question if this Esper was an enemy or an ally. It was only right he got an answer, no? Because just when everyone's wariness had reached its peak a dagger shot through the trees and pierced through the head of an assassin.
*Plop*
The body fell with a nasty thump.
The leader of the group assassin's face turned sour. His men were dropping like flies and the perpetrator had yet to reveal himself. And just when he thought it couldn't get any worse a fire had erupted his way.
*Boom!*
It was a small pillar of fire, but its power was undeniable. The flames pierced through the morning sky like a volcano that had erupted. But it only lasted for just a moment as its use was only for a distraction to blind the enemies before quickly disappearing, as a young man shot out from within the flames and attacked.
A certain man who bared the aura of an immortal dragon instantly locked onto a slim figure that was slicing and dicing the ankles of an assassin. He watched as the young man easily maneuvered through the group of attackers with confidence. Wasting no time as he used every chance he got to take down his enemies. He moved with quick precision but his moves were ruthless and unforgiving. The youth was like a young prince of war, his hair the color of melted gold and eyes the color of his enemy's blood. It was almost as if he was built for battle.
The appearance of this stranger was unexpected but he didn't dislike it at all. He quickly realized that they were an ally and not an enemy. Which was good, because that meant he could now end this. Raising his sword high he drew upon a large amount of sword aura and viciously sliced through the air.
In that one swell swoop, he had taken out the leader and the rest of the assassins. The men in black became nothing but decapitated corpses. It was a clean cut but one could still glimpse their heart and organs.
Roan was speechless but he refused to show it. He understood now that his so-called 'help' wasn't needed after all. He knew from the first time he laid his eyes on the silver-haired man that he was strong. But this was beyond his expectations.
This was the power of a Swordmaster.
Curious, Roan walked toward the two men and stood in front of them. He knew they were victims of an assassination attempt but he didn't know who they were. And that caused him to put his guard up for a bit longer.
The man faced Roan with a friendly smile. He slightly bowed, "Thank you. On behalf of my subordinate and I, we apologize for trespassing onto your territory."
Territory? What territory? These lands didn't belong to him in the slightest.
Roan ignored his comment and asked a question of his own. "Who are you?"
There was something fishy about this pair, especially this one man in particular. For starters, he was sinfully attractive. His eyes were a stunning wolfish grey, fierce and narrow. He had a straight nose, with a set of peach-colored lips that could sway the most chaste widow, with a single tilt or raise. And his hair, made up of a thousand threads of moon sliver. His tight muscles and well-proportioned muscular body were fit for a soldier. He had a dignified and imposing aura with a hidden sword of ruthlessness. It was clear that this man was a noble and Roan bet that just with his face alone. His status aside, he was a man with a lot of suitors.
Roan deducted two things from their first encounter. One, he was a noble of high status. You could tell from his set of fancy clothing. And second, he was a powerful Esper.
Unaware of the deep gaze the tall man was giving him. He glanced toward the other guy that had the power to control his own shadow.
He was also very impressive.
"Carlisle..."
"Eh?" His fiery red eyes shifted back toward the silver-haired man. "What did you just say?"
"My name is Carlisle. And this," he pointed to the black-haired, blue-eyed man next to him. "Is my subordinate Reid."
Roan nodded and started to ask another question but was quickly cut off by the man.
"You know our names. So tell us yours."
'Oh?...'
He didn't ask but commanded. Exactly like how any noble would act. They gave the orders and everyone else just followed.
As one who took orders in his past life and ended up dead because of it, he didn't take too kindly to men ordering him around. And to add he didn't trust them in the least, his guard rose even more.
"Since your safe now. You should leave."
Roan decided that he would no longer spare these two men any more of his attention than needed. It was best to go back to his little pond and wait for this family of his to come and get him.
After all, he was the youngest son of one of the strongest dukes in the Orrin Empire. Finding him should be easy, after all, it had already been two days.
No longer curious about the two he blatantly ignored them and walked away to head back towards the pond.
He hadn't eaten and he would've by now if he didn't decide to play hero. But he wasn't too mad about it. As it was better late than never, he would soon be able to eat.
