Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The youth eventually did get to eat, but unfortunately for him, it was with two unwanted guess. Who voluntarily and uninvitedly followed him back to the pond, where they quickly made themselves at home. They helped him pick fruit from the bushes and trees and even helped him kill an animal and skin it. Their actions were weird and because of that Roan couldn't make heads or tails of it. And so he grew even more suspicious of the two.

They all ate in a peaceful silence as they had a lot of food options to pick from. Varying from berries to nuts, leaves, and cooked meat. They even had clean water from the pond that they could drink when thirsty. The feeling was nice but Roan thought that it would be even more pleasant if the two men weren't here.

'Do they not have anything else better to do?'

It wasn't so much the man named Reid that bothered him so, but the silver-haired man named Carlisle. Something about him was imposing and annoying. Roan couldn't help but be on guard around him.

"I have some questions," Roan stated. "And I would like for you to answer them honestly."

Carlisle smiled as he stared at the other with a set of clear grey eyes that seemed to hold both, the waves of the ocean and the destruction of a tornado inside them. "Only if I get to do the same."

The younger thought about it for a bit before nodding in agreement. As long as it was a question and not a demand then he could work with that. He saw no problem with sharing a bit of information with the other. "Okay."

The man nodded with an amused grin. "So what is it that you would like to ask me?"

"Will there be more people coming to pursue you and your friend?"

"No. It would be dangerous to continue to pursue us once we've reached the capital."

"But not dangerous enough to the point that they wouldn't attempt it." After all, they were assassins, and assassins were a dime a dozen. Where one couldn't finish a job, another could. It was a high chance that this man would once again become a victim of another assassination attempt.

A merry chuckle escaped Carlisle's lips. His grey-clouded pupils locked onto Roan. "Are you worried for me?"

Worried? God no. Just what type of question was this? Roan didn't even worry about himself. How could he waste time worrying about someone else?

Seeing the look on Roan's face the man laughed, the sound deep and magnetic. No matter how he looked at it the young man in front of him was quite amusing to the ears and eyes. The more they talked the more his interest rose. "It's okay if you're worried about me. You wouldn't be the first to do so, nor the last." he said very confidently as if it was a known fact. And maybe it was, with his status, Roan didn't put it past this man.

With looks that could kill and a body that screamed supreme masculinity. Anything was possible.

"But I'm not worried about you." Roan refuted.

"And why is that?"

"Because from what I've seen, worrying about you would be quite useless." Roan spoke bluntly but honestly as he truly felt this way. He had experienced it firsthand when he had attempted to 'save' him from danger when he obliviously didn't need it. The man was strong, he'd survive no matter what came his way. Roan was sure of it.

The man's smile grew wider a soft glint flickering through his orbs. Not too many people had ever dared to talk to him like this before. Even his enemies that plotted against him, bowed their heads once they were in front of him. Yet this particular Esper that had hair the color of a dandelion and eyes that were prettier than the rarest rubies, with a body that was delicate but also powerful. Did not hesitate to talk to him however he wanted. His tone wasn't humble but neither was it disrespectful or arrogant.

And of course, he should be mad, any noble in their right mind would. But for Carlisle, instead of feeling anger, he felt contentment. As if he was conversing with an equal. Status and power didn't matter here as they talked to each other as one human to another. He enjoyed this feeling while it was here, sure that it wouldn't last once he left this place.

"I have one more question to ask." Roan studied him carefully. "Why were they trying to kill you?"

They as in, not the assassins. But the ones that hired them.

Carlisle shrugged leisurely. "There are a lot of reasons why they would want me dead." He paused. "It could be for power, position, money, greed..." His eyes bore into Roan, a thin smirk forming on his face. "Or just simply because I know a secret. As the saying goes, dead men tell no tales."

Roan was sure the other knew the exact reason why they were after him. Just from his response alone, he was sure of it.

"My turn." The man instantly rose to his feet. "Why is a Ger such as yourself wondering around these woods in the middle of the afternoon."

Roan could say the same for him. Why were two men that looked to be a part of the military wandering around the woods alone without a cavalry? Yes, they were attacked but why were they here in The Forest Of Souls in the first place? They must have a reason, but they were obviously hiding it. Out of the three here, the most suspicious were them.

The beautiful young man sighed as if answering the question was a trial in itself. "I live here." It was clearly a lie but Carlisle didn't push further as he could see the younger once again start to build a wall around himself. It seemed that he had unknowingly asked another personal question.

On another hand, Roan was currently deep in thought as a certain word had caught his attention. A Ger? What the hell was a Ger?

Carefully he searched through the original's memories and went back as far as he could as he meticulously comb through the new knowledge he was steadily receiving.

Ger's were males that had the ability to reproduce like a female. They had a womb that was able to bare a child once they procreated with the average male. Rather they were an Esper or not did not matter. Ger's were rare but even rarer amongst Espers. They were all born beautiful with a body that was precious and delicate. These people were like treasures treated with up most extreme care. Just one rough movement and they could break. They had slender bodies, dewy skin, zero muscles, and a beauty that ranged wildly. And they usually had a marking on their forehead or under their eye, in a shape that varied vastly. And depending on how dark or light the mark was, told how fertile they were.

To simply put they were basically like an omega. Unfortunately, Roan was one of them.

To say that he wasn't shocked in the least would be a lie. Roan was stunned at this new piece of information. The longer he stayed in this world, the more speechless he became.
