Roseland academy was bustling with students walking about. Noisy chatter echoed through the hallways of the school as students laughed and enjoyed the company of their mates.
In a particular area, two boys held a laptop while looking at the screen with wide eyes filled with excitement.
Harry and Xander, two friends who are obsessed with video games. Actually Xander is more obsessed but obsession is obsession.
"I bet it's going to be lit."
"Harry... That's what you said for that Dino hunting game." Xander said with a bitter smile as he looked up at the tall boy with average looks on low cut hair that wore glasses.
Harry adjusted his glasses like some kind of smart guy and smirked before saying, "I did enough research on this one. League of guardians is the next big thing." Harry said with a smirk.
"I hope you're right on this one." Xander said and closed the laptop and handed it to Harris.
Both of them were what you will call, wanderers, people who didn't know what they want to do in the future.
Of course, both of them knew what they wanted to be but nobody will let them. They wanted to be gamers, people who sit at home and play games while their accounts will be getting it's pay.
That was their dream, what they were aspiring to be. Of the two of them, Xander was more free than Harris.
He only lives with his step mom, his dad is currently out of the country working on some project. Meanwhile Harris lives with his entire family, he has a cute sister who he thinks is annoying, his parents are not working far so they have time for him.
Both of the boys grabbed their bags and stood up from the staircase where they sat.
A loud voice then reached their ears, "Get out of the way!"
"Huh...?"
Xander and Harris moved to one side of the staircase before looking at who had that arrogant but sweet voice.
There they saw.... An angel.
A girl with long black hair a little part on the front was white, ocean blue eyes and a cute face had an angry expression as she passed them with her mob of four other girls.
All the guys in the hall way couldn't help but stare at this group of girls. Not with hatred or envy... But with lust.
"All these losers, someone should teach them not to block their superiors."
"Yeah. Those low class boys shouldn't even be in this school."
"Ugh... Forget them, let's head to the nail salon today. I hear Felix is going to be there."
"Yeah, you're right."
Xander wasn't annoyed by their words a bit, after all he was used to such words already. He looked at Harris to calm him down since Harris was here too.
His brows scrunched in confusion as he saw Harris smiling, looking at... The girls ass.
"Sigh... You really have no shame."
Harris snapped out of his imagination and looked at Xander weirdly.
"You wouldn't understand bro. There's beauty in the body. Don't tell me you don't look at Sandra like that." Harris said, emphasizing on the beautiful girl in the middle of the four annoying ones that kept quiet all the time.
Xander didn't say anything or do anything and began walking downstairs with a nonchalant expression.
"Hey come on bro." Harris went and held Xander by the shoulder and both of them left the school together.
...
"The game is already out. You'll have to get the files on your flash drive."
"Hmm. That won't be a problem. Are you going in today or...?"
Harris looked at his friend sadly before he said, "Unfortunately no. My sister's birthday is today, after I reach home it's just to bathe and then follow my dad. I think he said we're going to a beach."
Xander just smiled bitterly. He didn't have anything interesting in his life except Games. His family is nothing interesting as he rarely sees his dad. The only person that he knows in his family now is his step mom, who have been living in that house since he was a child.
He doesn't remember anything about his real mom though.
...
"I'm heading to the game store before I go back home." Xander said before waving Harris goodbye.
Making his way into a one storey building not so far away Xander entered through the sliding glass doors.
There were three huge machines that had a screen and some buttons on it. Xander walked to the free one and brought out his flash drive to plug it in.
Another hand came from his side with a flash drive and then Xander turned to see who it was and then he saw... The last person he expected to see.
Cute, beautiful, sexy Sandra looking at him with wide eyes.
"Y... You...?!" Sandra stammered as she wanted to say something.
Xander couldn't say anything as he just stared at her in disbelief. Does she play games? Is she also getting the new game? Many questions started popping up in his mind as he looked at her.
Both of them just stared at each other for almost ten seconds before Sandra ran out, looking embarrassed.
Xander's surprise didn't show on his face but he sure as hell was surprised to see her. She looked more beautiful in normal clothes than she does in uniform.
'The school queen plays games huh.' Xander thought with a gentle smile on his face.
He then proceeded to download the file of the new game 'League of Guardians' and then payed for it through card.
Things have been made easier nowadays; instead of meeting some computer analyst you can just go to a machine, download a game, and then swipe your card to pay.
Xander has heard of games back in 2023 that they were downloaded with a computer or through an app.
He went tried on of those games made in 2023 on his phone but... They were trash. Now, virtual reality has taken the world by storm. You'll hardly come across anyone who plays video games on their phones. Even the video games nowadays are more advanced.
You can see a video game with 500Gb size. And that's just average.
Even though VR games were better, some people still enjoyed playing video games.
Making his way out of the store Xander began walking home. His excitement was evident in his rare smile.
...
In a luxurious villa a girl ran into a room and slumped on the bed, burying her face in her pillow.
The room was beautifully decorated and there were all sorts of gaming gadgets on the tables.
Sandra turned and stared at the ceiling with a red face. She didn't expect to meet any of her school mates in the game store.
When she met that boy that is in the same class as her she immediately panicked.
The only one that knows about her love for video games was her Butler... And now someone who she hasn't spoken to knows.
"He... He might tell people." She said, her heart was beating at a quick pace against her chest.
Those girls that befriended her didn't like games at all and just wanted to hang out, do their nails, hair and other stuff that Sandra wasn't too into.
"No! I can't let him tell anyone." Sandra said, springing up from the bed with a determined expression.
It was already Friday, she decided to see that boy on Monday and confront him, but first, she has to get the new game 'League of guardians'.
...
Xander finally reached a two storey residential building. He climbed up the stairs until he got to the top floor where his apartment was.
There were two doors opposite each other and Xander just entered the one on the right.
Upon entering his house he was greeted with a sweet aroma. Xander smiled and walked to the kitchen as if he was under a spell.
"Hey mom!" Xander greeted with a smile as he saw the woman in the kitchen who was preparing food.
She had short black hair and quite beautiful face.
"Xander! How was school today?" His mom asked with a gentle smile on her face.
His mom is currently in her late thirties. Even if she isn't his real mom, he and she bonded very well enough for him to now call her 'mom'.
"School was great. What are you cooking?" Xander asked as he walked to her side to look into the pot.
"I'm cooking beef stew. I plan to cook some rice too to go with it." His mom said with a smile as she watched Xander use his hand to direct the steam coming out of the pot to his nose.
"Smells good."
His mom only smiled at her son's childish behaviour. Ever since she got married to his father she somewhat became close to Xander naturally.
At first Xander didn't believe that she could understand his emotions, but after a few stories of her life, Xander finally warmed up to her and now they were even closer than they were to Xander's dad.
Xander was about to leave the kitchen when he looked back to tell her something... Important.
"Oh! And mom, I'll be in my room doing something important, I'll be down by 8 O'clock sharp."
His mother only shook her head before saying, "I see you've gotten another game."
"Hehe..." With a chuckle, Xander made his way up to his room excitedly to check out the new game immediately.
Maybe... Just maybe, this game would be better than others and he will be able to make a difference this time.
Being ordinary is so tiring, he wanted to be loved, just like all these professional gamers. Maybe he might be among the top in this game.
.....
[A/N: The novel is slow paced and nothing much happened during the first fifteen chapters. After that... the story will get... wonderful!]
