Adelia discreetly cracked open one of her doors, cautiously peering into the hallway to make sure it was clear. Dimly lit lamps were spaced at intervals, casting limited light that wasn't pitch black but far from being brilliantly bright.
It provided just enough light for anyone to see their way.
The moment she felt assured, Adelia hastily ventured out, clutching the book tightly against her chest, hidden beneath her silk shawl that matched the color of her gown.
She quietly made her way down the staircase and toward the library. The halls appeared deserted, except for the occasional presence of guards, that she had to dodge, which meant that it was late, and everyone had retired for the night.
She bit down on her lip anxiously when she reached the library's doors, cautiously pushed them open, slipped inside noiselessly and carefully closed them behind her. Her parents were certainly going to give her an earful tomorrow.
