Chapter 38 - Survival in the woods

Amon wandered through the dense forest, looking for a place to look at his wounded shoulder and take the best care of it. He held his shoulder and pressed hard on the wound. Luckily for him, there was no projectile in his shoulder, but it was still bleeding. The body of a qibander has to be sturdy. His body must be strong. Qi is always circulating back and forth in a qibendiger's body. The stronger his abilities with Qi become, the stronger the Qi that circulates in his body becomes. If his body were too weak, he would suffer internal organ damage. He thought that was the reason every child born with Qi died. Their bodies were too weak for the Qi in their bodies, but he didn't know why his body was strong enough for it back then.

If he hadn't constantly trained his body because of this fact, the projectile would have pierced through his shoulder or been stuck in it. The projectile would have been a sharp stone enhanced with some boon or magic and fired.

He walked until he found a place where he could rest. It was a little cave. The cave wasn't big, but it was an ideal place for him to make a campfire and sleep. He walked to it and checked everything. He created a bubble of water that had a 2-meter radius. He let the water drip out like it was raining to make sure the water wouldn't seep through. But the ceiling of the small cave was waterproof and therefore the best shelter he could find early on.

Amon looked around and saw something that made him happy.

"Is that a Hemalily? That would be perfect." Amon walked towards a tree trunk, where he saw a spiky plant with iridescent blue thorns. Its thorns, when crushed and applied, release a cooling and numbing effect that not only stops bleeding but also eases pain. There was no doubt this had to be a Hemalily. He picked the Hemalily and made sure that he did not touch the thorns. He walked back to his cave and laid the Hemalily on a rock. He searched for a good enough rock to crush the thorns, and he found a rock that was big enough to fit in one hand. He tried to move his left arm as little as possible. He put the stone next to him and tried to dethorn the plant. Which turned out to be damn difficult with only one arm. He clenched his teeth and used both hands to dethorn the plant. After he was done, he threw away the rest of the plant. He tore off part of his pants leg and wrapped the thorns in it. The fabric was thick enough not to be damaged by the thorns or the rock. When he was done, he took his stone and pressed firmly to crush the thorns wrapped in the piece of cloth. He did it as fast as he could to finally stop the bleeding. When he was done, he opened the piece of cloth and saw only a jelly-like liquid left that had soaked into the piece of cloth. Before attempting to wrap the piece of cloth around his shoulder, he created a bubble of water in his palm and washed the wound as best he could. He used the piece of cloth to band it around his shoulder, which was a hard task when you have to do it on your own. But somehow he managed to do it. When he was done, he laid on his back and began to think. He had a habit of saying things out loud when he was by himself; he could concentrate better like this.

"Well, water, food, and shelter shouldn't be my problems. This shoulder and the fact that I have no idea where I am, but I do."

He could easily create water, and in this forest, there were enough animals and plants that he could eat. The problem, however, was that his beloved guild was just being attacked by the enemy, and he wasn't even there. He was tired and irritable. He wanted to run straight to his guild, but he knew that was stupid. He thought he must be somewhere in Verdan or near a well-taken base in Silverwood. He had to do something he didn't like to suppress his feelings. Using the skill that Thalos once used on him, he felt his emotions draining and his rational and logical thinking taking over. The skill was called 'emotion seal' and was very practical when he had much work to do and needed to get it done. But he hated the feeling; he felt no emotions. As long as his emotions weren't stronger than this skill, nothing would happen. He felt like a vassel without a soul.

"I lost a lot of energy in training and fighting. I have to eat a lot to get energy and to recover."

He was able to recover his wounds with Qi, but that would take time and a lot of calories. It was a biological process that consumed a lot of energy, so he had to eat a lot.

Amon stood up slowly, making sure he wasn't straining his left arm, and walked a little further than where he found the Hemalily and found farious eatable plants and fruits. He took as many as he could and walked back when he saw something that made him even happier—a rabbit. It tried to hide under a huge root. But Amon could still see it. He dropped the plants and fruit he was holding in his right arm, pointed at the hare with his time finger, aimed briefly, and then a violet beam shot out of his finger and hit the hare in the head. He went closer to the rabbit and only then noticed how effective the attack was. The left half of its face had been shot off. He took the rabbit by the ears and carried it to its den. After putting the rabbit in the cave, he went back and got the plants and fruit that he had dropped earlier.

He then cut up the bunny and grilled it on a stick; when it was done, he ate the bunny and the fruit for dessert. He left the rest of the plants for later.

"I should sleep for today, and tomorrow I'll take a closer look at where I actually am."
