Alice could barely belive that even a small part of what she just saw was real.
To the reveal that the power Mirror used came at a heavy price, to the fact that she somehow managed to deafeat Brandon his "friend"... everything about the fight she witnessed was so... dream-like. Especially Mirror's last... attack, if one could call it that.
And now that the fight stopped, Alice felt as of she just woke up from a deep slumber.
Alice felt as if hours passed, while in reality, less than ten minutes ago, Mirror was in front of a door telling her to not try to help her during the fight.
And now, that girl, possibly the only person that ever cared about her, was laying on the floor with both of her legs severed. She also looked extremly old, which was frankly even more disturbing.
Lastly, Mirror seemed to suffer from something even worse than those two thing. From what Alice understood while listening to Brandon, Lotus and Mirror, using sorcery was dangerous for the soul of the user. And whith how much sorcery Mirror just did, her soul was probably in a worst state than desirable.
For a moment, Alice thought back about the fight where she lost an eye. Back then, Killer used sorcery to win. Did she used her own soul, or Alice's ?
This was a question for another day.
Alice walked towards her friend and hugged her weak body.
Mirror was smiling.
Despite the fact that she was going to die, she was smiling.
Alice could not understand what was happening in Mirror's head. Even though the both of them looked alike on the outside (well, not anymore.), they were very different people.
Mirror opened her lips, and said something. It took Alice a long time to understand what she was saying, and she only did so thanks to her weird Sixth Sense.
What were even the rules behind that Sixth Sense, by the way ? It seemed limitless at times, and then missed something that seemed obvious.
Mirror was saying:
"Farewell... Alice."
"Farewell." replied the Lightbringer with a voice devoid of emotion.
Alice didn't try to save Mirror, there was no point. She was going to die, so Alice just accepted it.
At one point, Mirror body became cold. Lifeless.
Alice's reflection died in the arms of the young Lightbringer. It was unclear if she died of old age, of blood loss, or of having a broken soul, but regardless, she died.
Alice felt... a little weird. Mirror was someone who helped her since the very beginning of her journey in the Sky. It was a person who knew about her past, a person she was really close to.
Mirror was her friend.
And now, she was gone.
Forever.
Alice released the mangled body of her reflection, letting it hit the floor.
It was the fourth time in her life Alice saw an human being die.
The third was when Brandon crushed his own heart.
The second was when Mirror killed her white-haired clone, back in the Forest of Glass.
The first... The first time... was one year ago, when Alice was still on Earth.
Alice looked at Mirror's dead body for a few seconds, without uttering a single word. Then, she looked at the Golden Door that Lotus was, for some reason, guarding, before he met his end.
Alice begun to walk towards that door.
Mirror was dead, but she was alive. Thus, she had to move forward.
"Why aren't you crying ? Your friend just died."
Alice was surprised by the voice for a brief moment, but she already knew who that person was.
It was Killer.
"Yeah, it's me. Why aren't you sad ?"
Alice frowned.
In fact, a normal person would have probably broke in tears after seeing their best friend die in front of them... Right ?
"Why aren't you crying ? You should be broken on the floor right now, with a sea of tears beneath you."
"I don't know... And it's not that important."
"Then, why didn't you try to help her, when she was fighting Lotus and his host ?"
Alice almost laughed.
"You're the one who stopped me from killing myself ? Now, you want me to die ? And besides that, she told me that I would only be an hindrance. In the end, she died because she overestimated herself."
"You and Mirror should be around the same level of power."
"Yeah, no. I don't buy that. For some reason, Mirror has always been way better than me. I was kind of jealous because of that... By the way, stop asking me these dumb questions. I'm tired right now."
"You should have tried to help her, anyway. Why..."
Alice bursted in anger.
"Oh, shut up !"
"What ?"
Killer was surprised by Alice's sudden outburst.
"Who gave you the right to tell me what to do ?Who gave you the right to tell me how I should feel ? Who ? Nobody ! I feel sad, or happy, if I want, and not because you tell me to !"
Killer startled, didn't reply instantly.
"Was Mirror... really a friend to you ?"
"Of course !"
"Then... what does the word friend means to you, Alice ?"
Alice thought about not giving any reply, but Killer could become very annoying when ignored.
"It means... someone that's nice to me, without having some sort of ulterior motives."
"That's it ?"
"Yeah."
"Then... what if you're the one that's nice to someone, without having ulterior motives ?"
"Huh ? Why would I do that ?"
"..."
"Killer ?"
"If the role were reversed... do you think you would have given up your life in the hope that Mirror might be able to cross the Door ?"
"Of course not ! But I'm glad Mirror did it. That girl is... was... quite an useful friend, don't you agree ?"
"..."
"I'm really going to miss her... without Mirror, everything is going to become so much harder."
"..."
"If there is one thing the strange mirror back in the Forest of Glass is bad at, it's probably copying personality. I mean... Mirror and me, we're really different in that regard."
"..."
"Killer ?"
"..."
"Alice on the phone, can Killer please reply ?"
"You're a disgusting person."
"What ?"
"You're messed up in the head."
"Huh ?"
"You seems to completly lack empathy. You're a sociopath. I mean, considering the kind of place you grew up in, I'm not really surprised."
Alice blinked with her single eye, before laughing.
"Me ? Crazy ? I'm completly normal ! What kind of joke is that ?"
After a moment of brief silence, she added.
"Besides, coming from someone whose Name is litteraly Killer, I don't think you're the best suited person to have that kind of judgment. You're probably a far worse person than I am."
