'What!' my friends and I screamed in unison, our faces with evident confusion.
'You are the leader of this generation of gifted ones', Uncle Jax repeated.
'I heard you...but how?' I asked more clearly this time.
'Every leader in each generation has a few things in common. One of them being their weapons', he explained.
'Is the other their element?' Iris asked.
'No. This is just a coincidence', he said,
'Anyway, the leaders weapon is called a Scepturion, an ancient weapon used by the first king of the elementals, it is one of the parts of the sceptre containing all the magic of the elementals. The king led the first gifted ones to victory with the sceptre and ever since then each leader has the same weapon and that is the weapon that has been chosen by you'.
'Why am I the leader? I can't do this. Why not choose Aiden since he has more experience than us, after all, he came a month before us and has been training ever since?' I asked, simply against being leader.
'Amelia, we can't change fate, you are the leader', Coral said giving me a reassuring smile.
'Im sure you'll be a great leader', Iris said trying to cheer me up.
'I hope so', I answered with a worried tone.
'Okay, now that that's settled let's get back to training', Axel said.
We learned how to properly use our weapons and how to defend ourselves with it.
Honestly, the weapon worked so naturally with my body and movements. It was like a part of me that I had total control of and with the defense lessons from our last training, it was pretty easy.
'Good work guys. That's all for today, you guys are making fast progress. If you keep this up, we might be able to go to the second part of our training in the next two weeks', Axel said.
'Really?' Iris asked.
'Yeah, you're all doing great', he replied then the three trainers walked out of the courtyard as they said their goodbyes and see you tomorrow.
The rest of the day was a blur.
I was too exhausted to do anything exciting so I spent most of the day reading the book my sister gave me.
The storyline was very intriguing.
It's about a complicated love triangle.
A girl who still has feelings for her ex but soon falls for the new kid in school.
Her ex is also still in love with her but is unsure about how exactly he feels and is determined to make her his again no matter what it takes.
At least that's what the description at the back says.
I was so lost in the book that I didn't notice someone come into my room.
The person suddenly placed his hand on my shoulder.
I immediately grabbed his hand and flipped him on the floor. I was about to punch him when I saw a familiar face.
'Woah! Zayn you startled me'.
'I'm sorry, okay? No need to ruin my face with your knuckles', he said.
'Sorry about that', I said then I started waving my hands frantically in front of him,' Quick reflexes'.
Then I stood up and walked to the end of the room.
Zayn followed me and stood behind me.
Suddenly, the close proximity between us frightened me.
Zayn seemed to have noticed this too because as I began to move away from him he held my hands then looked straight into my eyes.
'Is something wrong?' He asked.
'What do you mean?' I replied acting calm and clueless even though my heart was racing due to our closeness.
He looked at me with a bored expression then said,
'Do I really look dumb to you? I know when you're lying. We've been best friends since kindergarten'.
I looked a bit taken back.
I wasn't even sure where this conversation was going to.
'What's up? Why aren't you hanging out with Iris and I like you used to anymore?'
I was shocked by this question. Then I finally answered,
'It is just all the training. No big deal'
I then shrugged off his arm then finally succeeded in getting across the room but to my dismay, he followed.
'You are clearly avoiding this conversation. Iris feels the same way,you know? We've been talking but you're always never around', he said.
That last part really got my attention.
I don't know if it was anger or the sense of betrayal I felt but I definitely wasn't happy.
'You guys have been talking about what exactly?', I said my voice a little bit like a low growl.
'We have been talking about you actually. You've been really distant lately. We're worried about you'.
'Whats wrong?', he asked in a calm voice.
Then he held my hand again.
I took a deep breath. I don't know why but his hand really affected me in a way that made my heart race.
I built up some courage then said,
'Nothing is wrong Zayn. I just...just don't feel like being a social type of person right now'.
'But you love being that social type. I mean you were the Queen is social...'
'I was the the Queen' I said before he could continue, 'Now that everything just suddenly bumped into our lives and everything changed. I just feel better alone'.
While I was talking, he kept coming closer until my back was touching the wall and he was only a few inches from me, hovering above me.
My breath was uneasy and my heart kept pounding against my chest.
I gulped.
His gaze kept falling on my lips.
He kept leaning closer as I faxed into his eyes.
He stopped his lips only centimeters from mine.
Then he said, 'This isn't you Amy. Just because we are in a new environment doesn't mean you should change yourself.'
His breath was soft and kept fanning my face as he talked.
'We miss the old you... I miss you. Please come back to me'.
His gaze was on my lips throughout out.
Then he shakes his head and moved closer then pecked me on my cheek before leaving the room.
When he got to the door,he turned and said,
'Oh and Amy. Congrats on being the leader. You will do great'.
He smiled then left the room.
Even after he left, my heart was still racing and I was frozen in place. My back still fixed against the wall as I replayed everything that happened.
I soon gained composure and spent the rest of the day thinking about what he said.
The next day, training began and I couldn't even look in Zayn's direction for five seconds without thinking about what happened.
I was constantly distracted and kept losing my composure during practice.
'Aargh', I yelled in frustration.
After losing the Scepturion from my grip for the millionth time, I was already fed up.
'Great job everyone, that's all for today. Amy you need to concentrate more', Axel said before leaving with the other trainers.
'Aargh. This is so frustrating'. I dreamed throwing the Scepturion on the floor.
I was breathing heavily and used one hand to push my hair out of my face.
'Don't worry Amy. You'll be fine after more practice', Iris said trying to be optimistic but it wasn't working.
'You know what? I just need to think', I said.
'Haven't you done enough of that?' Iris suddenly replied.
Her reply not only shocked me but it also hurt me.
I couldn't think of the right response to give her. When she saw I wasn't going to say anything, she continued,
'You have literally been locked up in your room ever since we came here! Are you so busy that you can't even remember your best friends?'
'It's not like that', I replied in a low tone, my voice trembling.
'Then tell us! What's gotten into you?' she said the last part quietly, her voice laced with concern.
My head was spinning.
I was so angry and fed up with all these accusations from the people I call my best friends.
'You know it's not so easy for me to adapt. I mean, we go to another realm which we are supposedly the prince and princesses of different kingdoms and surprise, we are also the gifted ones! I just don't know what to do! Everything is just messed up right now and I'm just trying to piece my life back together!'
I was breathing heavily then said in a quiet voice, 'Is that so wrong?'
I didn't even realize that I had started crying until I was done.
I wiped my tears and stormed out of there and went straight to my room. I didn't even turn back when I heard them screaming my name.
I ate lunch and dinner in my room.
I wasn't in the mood to see not talk to anyone.
After about an hour after the maids had cleared the plates I used for dinner and bid their goodbyes, there was a gentle knock on the door.
I already knew it would be either Iris or Zayn and I didn't feel like seeing any of them.
'Go away!' I yelled.
'It's Aiden', the person at the door said.
'Aiden?' I said to myself
