'Why are we called gifted ones anyway? We are all the same, aren't we? No special skill or power, just a crest on our chests.'
As I pondered about this in my head, someone knocked gently on my door.
'Come in' I said.
The door opened to reveal Chrissy dressed in a knee-length floral gown.
'Hey. How did training with Uncle Jax go?' she asked while sitting gently at the edge of my bed.
I sat up and replied, 'It was great but I'm kind of exhausted.'
She giggled then said,' Yeah, figures it'd be like that. Uncle Jax is a little uptight though but he's also kind of nice.'
' I know that now', I said.
'Hey Chrissy', I started.
'Yeah', she answered.
'Why exactly are we called "The Gifted Ones", it's not like we have any special abilities or anything like special powers. Everyone of us are just in sync with different parts of nature, right?' I asked.
At first, she looked taken back by the question, then distressed.
After a while she spoke, ' I'm not supposed to say anything about it until after three weeks'.
'Say anything about what?' I asked a bit confused.
'Well...', she started, 'I'm really not supposed to say anything'.
Then I held her hand and made her look straight into my eyes with all amount of seriousness, 'What is it? You can tell me anything, you know that right?'
She nodded then said,'Fine... But don't tell anyone I told you'.
I let go of her hand and said, ' I promise'.
Then she started to explain, 'Everyone of us have a certain connection...a sync like you said with different parts of nature. Like for us, it's ice. We're not affected so much by cold, we feel the connection with ice and we are more comfortable around it which is why we prefer cold areas. For each part of nature it differs. Iris for instance, is from the part that is one with fire, loves heat, danger, flames and generally like to feel the flames of fire. The part that is one with water, Zayn, loves the sea, waterfalls, and basically the vast nature of the sea. For wind, that is Aiden, they love the cool breezy areas and generally the calmness and the unpredictable nature of the wind. There were others but they have been extinct for a long time and no one really knows what they were like.'
I listened quietly while she continued to explain. ' The gifted ones all have special powers related to the part of nature they are in sync with. For you, it's ice powers'.
I was so shocked when she finished. I tried to find the right words but I couldn't find one.
Finally I said,'Thats so cool'.
'Yeah but there are other people who are so in sync that they are able to also use powers', she said.
'Then what makes us so special?' I asked.
' Those people can only do a few tricks but you guys are the most powerful elementals. You are the most powerful ice elemental of this generation, which is why you have the crest on your shoulder as a symbol of power and the element you hold. You have 20 times the sync any other ice elemental has with ice, which is why you require three weeks of combat and psychic training before element training. That way your body and mind will be prepared' she explained.
'Makes sense... But how do you know all of this ?' I asked.
She just shrugged and said, 'I spend a lot of time with Uncle Jax'.
I just nodded in understanding.
She stayed in my room for a few more minutes while we talked about some of the books she had read and some stories about Uncle Jax and the previous generation of gifted ones.
She even gave me one of her favorite books.
When she was leaving, she walked to the door then turned around saying, 'Remember, don't let anyone know what we talked about and don't try to use your powers'.
' I won't. Now go', I said.
She gave me a blank look then left.
Immediately the door closed, I let out a breath and said to myself,'Who knew sisters could be so annoying?'
' I heard that!' Chrissy said from the other side of the door.
I just sighed and laid flat on my bed and started reading the book I got from Chrissy.
The rest of the day was a blur. I spent most of the time in my room, only at times I would get visits from my siblings and my best friends. We would talk for a while then I continued reading.
The next day, the king and queen of Flare, Aqua and Hurricane kingdoms with all the princes and princesses started heading back to their respective kingdoms.
After breakfast, we bid them farewell then went to the courtyard to practice.
This time I wore a red combat suit while Iris wore purple and Zayn black. Iris and I tied our hair in ponytails and I let the strands of white hair fall on my face.
'Okay, today we are still going to do some basic defense training but this time with weapons of your choice since you did well in the last training', Axel said.
'Weapons? What kind?' Iris asked a bit over excited.
'You can choose anyone of these', Carol said as Uncle Jax brought in a bag full of weapons and laid them on the floor.
'Here we go. Now, your weapon will come naturally to you, it's already a part you, you just don't know it yet. When you find your weapon you'll know.', Uncle Jax explained and with that we stepped towards the weapons in search of our own.
Zayn was the first to get a weapon. He grabbed a bow which had sharp edges. He looked at it again then said,' This is definitely the one'.
'How do you know?', I asked.
' I just do', he replied with a shrug. Next to find a weapon was Iris. Hers was a pair of double blades.
'Yeah, this will work great. This is definitely it', Iris said.
'This isn't fair, nothing seems right', I whined.
'Don't worry, just keep looking', Uncle Jax said.
As he did Aiden and Daniel entered the courtyard. 'Did we miss it?' Daniel asked.
'You guys are just in time', Axel answered.
I was so confused but I ignored them and continued looking for my weapon. That's when I saw it and felt a certain force attracting me to it. It was a metal staff with both ends as sharp as knives.
I lifted it and then said,'This is definitely it'.
I turned to look at their faces to find all the trainers smiling then Uncle Jax said,'Congratulations Amelia! You are now the new leader of this generations gifted ones'.
